My best friend showed me Aesop. He passed away and this was his favorite song. Listening to it makes me feel like he is right next to me spitting word for word. I love what music can do.

This song is, no joke, a shining beacon of what you can accomplish in hip hop. It's a damn shame more artists aren't striving to reach these kinds of lyrical heights.

I read this article too. People tend to either listen to what's popular or looks good. I'm sure more 'listeners' will buy 50 Cent records rather Aesop Rock. That's the world we live in. +brooksviola5 I think this is actually John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats (on Coffee with Aesop as well) but I can't figure it out. On the album proper, this is combined with Coffee into one track with a 30 second break between the two songs, and it says Feat. John Darnielle on the back, so I've since taken that as a pretty good indicator that it's his lol.
But you're right, that guitar riff does have that Loser sound to it. Which is funny, as that song is actually the nonsense string of nonsensical nonsense that Aesop Rock gets accused of a lot.

      My friend,
I find myself very curious as to what you are listening to these days now that you are grown.
I, too, was a young prodigy in my choice of playlists, yet it took me years to grow and ears to grow before I would genuinely appreciate the exceptional aesthetic I had adopted early on was so profoundly more than the mystique I had been attempting to render with accuracy.
I wonder sometimes, if we all might not have myriad 'playlists' (this obviously would include titles on a prominent bookshelf, a curated list of painters, poets, films, et al..)
that we whip out for this or that group of people or circumstance, and if I'm honest, I admit, at age fifty, that only my closest people will ever know my truths (As an example, on the film list, 'Bring It On', the cheerleading flick, will always beat out 'Cannery Row')

Now talentless holes like Cardi B (and her other disgusting, plastic filled, clone) that have multiple men writing about sex for them just so women can somehow pass it off as "female empowerment" to impressionable teens is what gets the most attention. I always love how low IQ people's understanding of this song is. Aes does hate cops though, he says it a lot during his freestyles. Typical for New York people to hate cops though, New York cops are usually so sick of dealing with bullshit that they tend to have shitty confrontational attitudes. That and the corruption is rampant.

By the time they reach power, they're very unlikely to speak out against the status quo, although they know there's nothing good about it. The system needs to change. Somewhat surprised at the lack of Animal Farm references in this, since Aes is clearly no stranger to George Orwell - since he's referenced Orwell and 1984 numerously.
    Notable examples include Freeze...
*"Whilst Biggest Brother's watching Bigger Brother watching Big Brother watch you"*
    Boombox...
*"We could run that Orwell's '84 war for the room 101 detour"*
...and the whole excerpt quoted in One Brick:
*"Platforms have been erected, effigies built, slogans coined, songs have been written, rumors have been circulated, autographs faked..."*
So yeah, the lack of references to Animal Farm - in which the farm is politically taken over and ruled by *pigs*, no less - is fairly surprising. Missed a golden opportunity, I think.
