Cool swap! We actually did the same thing into an XJ, although not quite as heavily modified. We were able to use the stock 1UZ accessories and ECU. We swapped the bell housing, input shaft, pump, and front planet assembly from a Lexus A340e and stuffed into the Jeep's stock AW4. We interfaced the Jeep's stock separate TCM to the 1UZ (just have to splice the TPS wire), and the stock Jeep TCM ran everything just fine, but a WOT shift will only be ~4800 RPM. Not a big deal - we put a toggle switches to be able to manually shift it if needed. It also may be possible to swap the A340 valvebody and have the Lexus computer control everything, but we never investigated very far into that. The only major issue is that we had powertrain wise is that the AW4's valvebody is setup way too soft for the 1UZ. WOT 6000 RPM shifts were super soft and took forever to complete. The TransGo shift-kit is pretty much necessary. Don't make the mistake we did though - we thought we were being clever by going with the "full race" option on the shift kit. Shifts like a dump truck, even with the 1UZ.
You're build is what got me wanting to go with a 1UZ. But... Plans are changing, the 1UZ is going into another project and the rig is getting a 5.3/4L65E/231.
Given you can't even use a GC transmission with a 1UZ, you if auto, should just use a AW4 from Cherokee with a RADesigns shifter or similar. Manual, the AX15 is a cousin of the R154 which there are kits for.
No need. The 1UZ uses the A340 transmission. It is the same transmission family as the AW4. All that is needed is to swap the input shaft/planetary/shell and front pump along with the bellhousing. Direct swap between both.
