I absolutely adore this weapon, never had a bad experience with it, although it does kinda fall off power wise after plantera, which makes sense for early hardmode weapons
Honestly, the fact that it has good range, good damage, fast fire rate, no ammo/mana consumption, a built in status effect, and is easy to get makes it extremely good. I usually like to combo it with the fire gauntlet and frost burn armor and a cursed flask so every enemy I hit gets on fire, frostburn, cursed flames, and shadow flame debuffs at once
Shadow flame knife used to be my favorite weapon back when I maimed melee. It’s so fun to use and is super good for mechs and crowd control, as attacking enemies on one side allows the knives to bounce back and kill those behind you. I used to always rush goblin army as soon as I entered Hardmode.

If y'all want to have fun, use the frost armor (made by titanium and frost core), the fire glove (the upgrade of the mechanical glove) and use the ichor flash / cursed flames flask. You're gonna have a rainbow flaming knife that does damage, burns enemies in 3 different ways and covers alot of range.
Frost cores might be kinda tough to get, but I like the sound of this. I'll definitely keep this noted for when I reach the post-mech part of progression
@@sarvukruv2137 I normally get a flat area on the snow biome (dirt bombs help to feel any empty space so enemies only spawn up in the surface) and make a hole where I can hide and shoot the Ice Golem through it (or just use summons). Also you can use water candles and Battle Potions to make them spawn more frequently. The main annoyance it's getting rain to spawn, but you can either sleep and wait or just do other stuff while waiting like mining, farming enemies, etc...
I did this my first melee playthrough once 14.4 came out. HOWEVER, I now will go for crystal assassin armor instead preboss for melee and mage (frost for ranged still) because, after trying it out for the first time, I realize that it truly is the best armor for melee especially (mage probably isn't AS optimal but still great).
A lot of people sleep on the Shadow Flame weapons in my opinion, the Shadow Flame bow has really good damage and fire rate the only bad Shadow Flame weapon is the Hex Doll with it's mediocre range and average damage
Eh, usable agaisnt destroyer i guess? But man, in the same or even shorter time, you can probably get the crystal serpent by fishing which is literally usable on all three mechs.
@@danielchin4198 or Cursed Flames, which is a powerhouse. People tend to ignore in favour of Golden Shower, but those bouncy flameballs can easily carry you up to Lunatic Cultust. The most underrated magic weapon ever, and I personally like it much more than overhyped Crystal Serpent/Sky Fracture/Spirit Flame.
Hex Doll is still an upgrade over Poison Staff and Magic Dagger. Almost a life-saver on higher difficulties where it's not so easy to farm other magic weapons. At least it can help you obtain stuff like Crystal Storm, Vile Shard or Life Drain.
@@antonovsiannikov4547 I'd argue that the cursed flames are a fantastic alternative to the crystal storm for crowd control and can do much better. Hex Doll is just straight up too trash for any mage user even on lower difficulties such as expert-mode-regular, and normal-mode-regular not even taking into account Fortheworthy-xdifficulty or Master mode(let alone MM-FTW). On top of that the risk does not outweigh the benefits unlike whips for many summoners.

During my melee runs, I'd usually use Amarok (or Helfire, whichever drops first) in early hardmode. They are very consistent and their DPS can be significantly boosted with the yoyo bag. IMO they're better than Shadowflame Knives in most circumstances.
If you haven't talked about it, can you make a video on the Dart Rifle and/or Dart Pistol? To get the Dart Rifle and Pistol, you need to kill a curroption or crimson mimic respectively, with a 20% chance of dropping. These two weapons are highly underrated, in my opinion. The dart rifle is an excellent early-hardmode weapon that has the ability to have over 90 base damage per shot with pre-mech gear, and the dart pistol can fire pretty fast. Not only that, but its ammunition is simple to craft, and this weapon synergizes amazingly with cursed darts and frost armor. The cursed darts allows for these dart weapons to be as good as the Daedalus stormbow, if not even better, and pairing it with frost armor allows you to have 20 damage over time! For comparison, venom bullets, a post-plantera item only has about 15 DOT, while a pre-mech setup, without buffs, can do 5 DOT over the venom. This is why I think the hardmode Dart items are criminally underrated, and why I think you should make a video on the topic. Thank you.

Dart guns with Ichor Darts do comically high single-target damage at close range (and are a good alternative to Golden Shower for liberally spraying the Ichor debuff around), Cursed Darts provide ridiculous arena-spanning crowd control, and Crystal Darts' smart-ricochet makes them devastating in tight spaces. Consequently both the Pistol and Rifle are among the most powerful and most versatile pre-boss HM weapons.
I've never considered this the best early hardmode weapon for melee players who want to make it past the mechanical bosses without too much pain. But, now that you mention it, I suppose it is.

You can just use chain guillotine or the flying knife for mechs or the shadow flame knife

Great video. You havent even really explored its debuff which causes damage over time. Combine this with the magma stone or fire gauntlet accessory which causes melee attacks to inflict the on fire-debuff as well as the frost armor set which adds the frostburn-debuff and you get 3 damage over time debuffs that add up to 27 damage/second. This can be improved by flasks as well. Instead of the magma stone you can also use a flask to add cursed inferno debuff to your attacks. Some enemies might be immune. Check the wiki.
Make a platform above the ocean at the side border of your world's ocean, place a watercandle drink a combat potion and goblin scouts will spawn fairly rapidly. You can do this pre hardmode and get cloth easily
I like to make a 4 Flames Combo with this weapon. Shadow Flames from the Knife + Cursed Flames from the Flask + Frost Burn from the Set + Inferno Flame From the Gloves Acessories. The DPS is Nuts.
I use this weapon in all my early hardmode melee builds. I think to get the best out of this weapon, you need to throw it at an upwards angle so it lands on top of an enemy and bounces to the next.
It is good, but people don't really think of doing an event at the start of HM (at least on higher difficulties). Instead, they just smash some altars, get theore or souls enemies drop and (possibly) place two columns of clay to stop the corruption from spreading where it shouldn't. Also even in classic the goblin summoner fight is far too obnoxious and drags out the entire event but that could probably be me and my biased opinion
you can even stack this with frost armor, magma stone, and a cursed flask, to stack every burning debuff and cause insane life drain against bosses like the twins

This is my favorite weapon in terraria, what I like to do is get violent on everything and melt through things with it, cause along with the faster speed it will go farther and there for be more accurate, this aspect of the weapon makes it very good against both the twins and skeletron
Something that i love about melee early-hm is that you can make a lodaut based on debuffs, making a lot of damage with them, these are : On fire Frostburn Shadowflames Ichor/cursed flames (At the same time), this completly melts the bosses
Mage player here. Despite that this is probably my favourite weapon in the whole game, i love to stack cursed flame, hellfire and frostburn with it’s natural shadowflame debuff, so fun.
Good vid, I also love the shadowflame knife, those reasons are good, but also; if you combine it with the magma stone, the frost armor, and cursed flames, you can deal every type of fire damage in one hit. It’s very pretty.
This is one of my favorite weapons and also is great for mech bosses, when paired with flame gauntlets and frost armor as well as a flask of ichor or cursed flame can absolutely shred enemies from a safe distance, it can also hit multiple segments of an enemy at once and I always make sure to get it as soon as possible
The Drippler Crippler, the Shadowflame Knife and the Seargent United Shiled sit there as my top favorite Early-HM Melee weapons. Yes, I have a knack for liking HARD-TO-OBTAIN but FUN-GIMMICKY weapons over projectile sword #63 apparantly
I'd say the Banana Boomerang is just as viable as it has a higher damage and can be used to thin out groups of enemies in one direction that can be swept from behind if you toss a few bananas over them. And it's easy to obtain since bloody tears can drop on blood moons prior to hard mode and can be used in hardmode to get the clown to spawn. But that's just my opinion playing my first expert mode.
I used that weapon early hardmode in my melee playthrough. Best for frost armor with magma stone and imbuing flasks for max DPS. Very decent weapon against Mechanical bosses and queen slime. It also effective against Duke Fishron pre-Plantera, until I got a weapon from it. Great content, by the way!
When I first played hard mode, I was doing a mage playthrough and this weapon basically carried me through the beginning of hard mode, until I got the Sky Fracture.
The shadowflame knife is really good with the fire stone or any equipment that adds fire dmg to meelee dmg attacks Because its both giving normal fire dmg bit also shadowflame dmg
I like it because Shadowflame is a rare debuff you can use and stack with the Flasks, and there's only a few enemies that are immune to Shadowflame so it's a good Damage-Over-Time option it also works on the Oiled debuff Set Bonus from the Huntress/Red Riding armour. So you can apply 3 debuffs on enemies after they hit the Explosive Trap, getting covered in flammable oil, and set on fire with the Shadowflame Knife, AND have their defence lowered with Ichor to really melt enemies. I think the Old One's Army gear is really under-appreciated as well as a lot more trap-based setups for events and bosses, can you cover Old One's Army weapons and armour bonuses sometime?
This knife is op, i was struggling to kill the mech bosses melee on expert, when goblins arrived i accidently got the knife, and that very day, i already beat golem. Amazing thing.
I definitely agree that it's probably one of the best weapons for early for destroyer and twins but i'd much rather use the amarok yo-yo for skeletron prime just because of it's high single target dps
This thing carried me through the twins and skeletron prime and I sometimes wish I could use it against harder enemies/bosses because of how fun and cool it is
Shadow flame knife, flask of cursed flame, magma stone/fire gauntlet, frost armor and you get yourself a rainbow flame knife, inflict 4 different type of fire in a single hit.
I got this weapon in my most recent Terraria playthrough, and even though it was kind of a pain, it was 100% worthwhile. I absolutely adore this weapon and I'll be sure to make a point to get this on every melee run I do.
I honestly don't see enough people using other early hardmode weapons for melee other than this, but there are many good options though I'm not sure which it the best one out of the KO cannon, shadow flame knife, chain guillotine, dao of pow, the flying knife and probably the best but most annoying one the bananarangs, since all of them have from decent to really good range and do good enough damage to kill the mechs, maybe a comparison video or something for good/viable early hardmode weapons for each class could be interesting.
They are all good in their own perspectives it's just the shadow flame is kinda easier to get. Plus can work well with summoner if your using the blade staff
@@sharkplay1261 in terms of getting it I'd say that the chain guillotine is at a similar level to the shadowflame knife since nether is guaranteed to drop from there respective drop sources and to get ether enemy you need to do some farming. But I prefer farming for souls of night over tattered cloth since you need to frame souls any way so you can just farm them a lot at once and you have decent chances of seeing a corruption mimics while farming souls, so it imo compensates for the chain guillotines a bit lower drop chance per kill but both are very viable weapons, but I usually just get the knife if a goblin army happens to spawn on it's own

@@sharkplay1261 true still I've only had to farm for the goblin battle standard in pre-hardmode maybe 5ish times in the last 2000 hours of me playing Terraria, because usually the goblin army does spawn naturally, so it just seem a bit out of the way for a single weapon rather than going under ground for souls, but yes realistically both weapons will take probably around 30 minutes to an hour depending on rng even if you farm the tattered cloth in early hard mode. So in conclusion both weapons are really good and neither are that hard to get. The biggest advantage for going with the chain guillotine over the shadowflame knife in terms of farming is if you do a hardmode goblin army but don't get the drop you want than you need to go farm for more tattered cloth and even though the knife has a better drop chances than the guillotine if you have bad rng than you'll lose more time getting the tattered cloth and actually doing the event than you would if you go farm souls and kill the mimic, but that's only with bad luck. The worst case I've seen of bad rng on the shadowflame knife was doing 3 goblin armies without getting it and getting it during the 4th one, which would probably be around 20+ summoner kills, so it's possible to get really bad luck and sink hours in to getting it but that's thankfully nothing you really need to worry about, I just gave that as an example of the worst case scenario and you could expect similar statistics from biome mimics too. So what I'm trying to say is that bad rng for the knife is much worse that bad rng for the guillotine
Im a mobile Player and when 1.3 dropped into my device and I reached hardmode I immediately do the Slime mount glitch, summon or wait for the goblin army and face the Goblin summoner. Damm good weapon
I was doing an expert mode game and only a few nights into hardmode I had a goblin invasion and I got the shadowflame knifes from one of them and it carried me to after plantera!
hmm so i think melee class should have like a strong buff on defense (when you hold a melee weapon), but at the same time to have a debuff of some sort so you can't use a ranged weapon with a cooldown or something similar because best melee is melee with projectiles , so it's basically ranged class with close attack , *not* true melee
0:02 What??? Early hardmode Meele is strong! One of the strongest classes for early hardmode IMO! There are so many STRONG weapons choices for melee before bosses.
Shadowflame knife became a go-to for me ever since I did my first melee-only playthrough, and it got me through the mech bosses with ease. For me, it really synergized with magma stone and frost armor. This combo makes each attack deal the shadowflame, on fire, and frostburn debuff at the same time, dealing maximum carnage. With a good modifier and accessories, you can deal crazy amounts of damage by early-hardmode standards. I’ve yet to do the math on how much dps these debuffs do together, so if someone could figure that out I’d greatly appreciate it!
Shadowflame Bow is much better suited for this because Huntress set is meant to used by rangers. Phantom Phoenix is also excellent to use with this loadout.
Yes, Best weapon in early hard mode. Combined with frost armor, Shield of Cthulhu, A Decent grappling hook and some dodging skills, and you can basically clear Duke fishron with proper preparation Though i would still recommend doing it with Hallowed armor. Still a fun cheese.
for early HM i usually go with a high defense/dodge build + attack speed with the Fetid Baghnakhs - usually shreds bosses and paired with the turtle armor and some buffs you can kill Plantera while standing in 1 spot
One of the few melee weapons you could apply lots of debuffs with. Shadowflame +On fire!+Frostburn+Ichor/Cursed flame. All sorts of burns. For yoyos I used amarok a lot, and with the fire glove, and cursed flames just did a lot of damage over time.
It's so good I got the goblin army randomly near the start of hardmode and got the knife and it basically was my only weapon until true night's edge.The bounce instead of pierce does get a bit annoying tho

I'd say that a better option would actually be the flying knife, due to its freedom and infinite piercing its quite good against destroyer, and after that you can try and farm for the bananarangs or make the light disks. Or you could use a flail, which despite most being boring like yoyos, are still an incredibly powerful option since the rework in 1.4
I knew my intuition was right when i always saw that weapon as one of the best of the early game, always when i'm activating hardmode y summon instantly goblin army just to get that knife, my life gets a lot easier using it xD i even have defeated some great bosses like plantera with it
I grinded for bananarangs forgetting this was even a thing lol. Bananarangs are good but honestly they're not as good as this one. I'd say go for this and try and get the death sickle for plantera
You kill basic Goblins so far that I actually try to run away and kill nothing during Hardmode Goblin invasions so more Goblin Summoners spawn. That way, I don’t accidentally rush the event and have none spawn

Ice Sickle is always my go-to melee weapon when entering hardmode! It works wonders against the mech bosses in my opinion.
Ice Sickle is pretty insane early hard mode. Carried me through the mech bosses until I could get True Night's Edge

it's an unspoken rule that thou shalt use the shadowflame knife irrespective of thy class thee playeth
It also helps to throw the knives in a high arc or from above, it makes it more likely to ricochet onto an enemy on flat ground.

I like the Shadowflame knife, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to farm for it because goblins are very annoying to summon
Make a platform above the ocean at the side border of your world's ocean, place a watercandle drink a combat potion and goblin scouts will spawn fairly rapidly. You can do this pre hardmode and get cloth easily

I like to make a 4 Flames Combo with this weapon.
Shadow Flames from the Knife + Cursed Flames from the Flask + Frost Burn from the Set + Inferno Flame From the Gloves Acessories.

I use this weapon in all my early hardmode melee builds. I think to get the best out of this weapon, you need to throw it at an upwards angle so it lands on top of an enemy and bounces to the next.

It is good, but people don't really think of doing an event at the start of HM (at least on higher difficulties). Instead, they just smash some altars, get theore or souls enemies drop and (possibly) place two columns of clay to stop the corruption from spreading where it shouldn't.
Also even in classic the goblin summoner fight is far too obnoxious and drags out the entire event but that could probably be me and my biased opinion
you can even stack this with frost armor, magma stone, and a cursed flask, to stack every burning debuff and cause insane life drain against bosses like the twins

This is my favorite weapon in terraria, what I like to do is get violent on everything and melt through things with it, cause along with the faster speed it will go farther and there for be more accurate, this aspect of the weapon makes it very good against both the twins and skeletron
Im using this in my calamity Revengence mode melee only playthrough and it really helps to kill the twins and Skeletron prime, Destroyer not that good

Something that i love about melee early-hm is that you can make a lodaut based on debuffs, making a lot of damage with them, these are :
On fire
Frostburn
Shadowflames
Ichor/cursed flames
(At the same time), this completly melts the bosses

Mage player here. Despite that this is probably my favourite weapon in the whole game, i love to stack cursed flame, hellfire and frostburn with it’s natural shadowflame debuff, so fun.
Good vid, I also love the shadowflame knife, those reasons are good, but also; if you combine it with the magma stone, the frost armor, and cursed flames, you can deal every type of fire damage in one hit. It’s very pretty.
This is one of my favorite weapons and also is great for mech bosses, when paired with flame gauntlets and frost armor as well as a flask of ichor or cursed flame can absolutely shred enemies from a safe distance, it can also hit multiple segments of an enemy at once and I always make sure to get it as soon as possible
The Drippler Crippler, the Shadowflame Knife and the Seargent United Shiled sit there as my top favorite Early-HM Melee weapons. Yes, I have a knack for liking HARD-TO-OBTAIN but FUN-GIMMICKY weapons over projectile sword #63 apparantly
The Shadowflame Knife is basically my go-to weapon. If I can't get it though I usually settle on a yoyo or something.

I'd say the Banana Boomerang is just as viable as it has a higher damage and can be used to thin out groups of enemies in one direction that can be swept from behind if you toss a few bananas over them. And it's easy to obtain since bloody tears can drop on blood moons prior to hard mode and can be used in hardmode to get the clown to spawn. But that's just my opinion playing my first expert mode.
I used that weapon early hardmode in my melee playthrough. Best for frost armor with magma stone and imbuing flasks for max DPS. Very decent weapon against Mechanical bosses and queen slime. It also effective against Duke Fishron pre-Plantera, until I got a weapon from it.

When I first played hard mode, I was doing a mage playthrough and this weapon basically carried me through the beginning of hard mode, until I got the Sky Fracture.
Fun fact this is the best choice for pre mech duke melee.
The shadowflame knife is really good with the fire stone or any equipment that adds fire dmg to meelee dmg attacks
Because its both giving normal fire dmg bit also shadowflame dmg
I like it because Shadowflame is a rare debuff you can use and stack with the Flasks, and there's only a few enemies that are immune to Shadowflame so it's a good Damage-Over-Time option it also works on the Oiled debuff Set Bonus from the Huntress/Red Riding armour. So you can apply 3 debuffs on enemies after they hit the Explosive Trap, getting covered in flammable oil, and set on fire with the Shadowflame Knife, AND have their defence lowered with Ichor to really melt enemies.
I think the Old One's Army gear is really under-appreciated as well as a lot more trap-based setups for events and bosses, can you cover Old One's Army weapons and armour bonuses sometime?
Also the shadowflame debuff is really nice to reduce it's crowd weakness a bit and it stacks well with cursed inferno
This knife is op, i was struggling to kill the mech bosses melee on expert, when goblins arrived i accidently got the knife, and that very day, i already beat golem. Amazing thing.
This weapon carried me through all the early hardmode bosses in Calamity Mod Death Mode - Cryo, QS, and all 3 mechs with that thing.
This is the perfect weapon to fight Duke Fishtron as soon as you kill the Wall Of Flesh as Melee class
I definitely agree that it's probably one of the best weapons for early for destroyer and twins but i'd much rather use the amarok yo-yo for skeletron prime just because of it's high single target dps
Chain guillotine is also phenomenal for single target dps

Shadow flame knife, flask of cursed flame, magma stone/fire gauntlet, frost armor and you get yourself a rainbow flame knife, inflict 4 different type of fire in a single hit.
I've never seen anyone talk about the Sergeant United Shield, at least for me it's one of the best melee weapons for Early Hardmode

I got this weapon in my most recent Terraria playthrough, and even though it was kind of a pain, it was 100% worthwhile. I absolutely adore this weapon and I'll be sure to make a point to get this on every melee run I do.
I honestly don't see enough people using other early hardmode weapons for melee other than this, but there are many good options though I'm not sure which it the best one out of the KO cannon, shadow flame knife, chain guillotine, dao of pow, the flying knife and probably the best but most annoying one the bananarangs, since all of them have from decent to really good range and do good enough damage to kill the mechs, maybe a comparison video or something for good/viable early hardmode weapons for each class could be interesting.
They are all good in their own perspectives it's just the shadow flame is kinda easier to get. Plus can work well with summoner if your using the blade staff
@@sharkplay1261 in terms of getting it I'd say that the chain guillotine is at a similar level to the shadowflame knife since nether is guaranteed to drop from there respective drop sources and to get ether enemy you need to do some farming. But I prefer farming for souls of night over tattered cloth since you need to frame souls any way so you can just farm them a lot at once and you have decent chances of seeing a corruption mimics while farming souls, so it imo compensates for the chain guillotines a bit lower drop chance per kill but both are very viable weapons, but I usually just get the knife if a goblin army happens to spawn on it's own

@@sharkplay1261 true still I've only had to farm for the goblin battle standard in pre-hardmode maybe 5ish times in the last 2000 hours of me playing Terraria, because usually the goblin army does spawn naturally, so it just seem a bit out of the way for a single weapon rather than going under ground for souls, but yes realistically both weapons will take probably around 30 minutes to an hour depending on rng even if you farm the tattered cloth in early hard mode. So in conclusion both weapons are really good and neither are that hard to get. The biggest advantage for going with the chain guillotine over the shadowflame knife in terms of farming is if you do a hardmode goblin army but don't get the drop you want than you need to go farm for more tattered cloth and even though the knife has a better drop chances than the guillotine if you have bad rng than you'll lose more time getting the tattered cloth and actually doing the event than you would if you go farm souls and kill the mimic, but that's only with bad luck. The worst case I've seen of bad rng on the shadowflame knife was doing 3 goblin armies without getting it and getting it during the 4th one, which would probably be around 20+ summoner kills, so it's possible to get really bad luck and sink hours in to getting it but that's thankfully nothing you really need to worry about, I just gave that as an example of the worst case scenario and you could expect similar statistics from biome mimics too. So what I'm trying to say is that bad rng for the knife is much worse that bad rng for the guillotine

hmm so i think melee class should have like a strong buff on defense (when you hold a melee weapon), but at the same time to have a debuff of some sort so you can't use a ranged weapon with a cooldown or something similar
because best melee is melee with projectiles , so it's basically ranged class with close attack , *not* true melee

Can you talk about the leaf blower please, it’s arguably the most underrated weapon in terraria, seriously try it with specter armor.
Heat ray is also pretty good, especially for those who do golem straight after plantera and than do the moon events ,it really good for crowd control
Shadowflame knife became a go-to for me ever since I did my first melee-only playthrough, and it got me through the mech bosses with ease. For me, it really synergized with magma stone and frost armor. This combo makes each attack deal the shadowflame, on fire, and frostburn debuff at the same time, dealing maximum carnage. With a good modifier and accessories, you can deal crazy amounts of damage by early-hardmode standards. I’ve yet to do the math on how much dps these debuffs do together, so if someone could figure that out I’d greatly appreciate it!

It synergies a lot with Huntress Set. Give opponents oiled debuff and deal more DoT
Shadowflame Bow is much better suited for this because Huntress set is meant to used by rangers. Phantom Phoenix is also excellent to use with this loadout.

Yes, Best weapon in early hard mode. Combined with frost armor, Shield of Cthulhu, A Decent grappling hook and some dodging skills, and you can basically clear Duke fishron with proper preparation
Though i would still recommend doing it with Hallowed armor. Still a fun cheese.
for early HM i usually go with a high defense/dodge build + attack speed with the Fetid Baghnakhs - usually shreds bosses and paired with the turtle armor and some buffs you can kill Plantera while standing in 1 spot
One of the few melee weapons you could apply lots of debuffs with. Shadowflame +On fire!+Frostburn+Ichor/Cursed flame.
All sorts of burns. For yoyos I used amarok a lot, and with the fire glove, and cursed flames just did a lot of damage over time.
This weapons has worked for me up until plantera is defeated, it's pretty neat
It's so good I got the goblin army randomly near the start of hardmode and got the knife and it basically was my only weapon until true night's edge.The bounce instead of pierce does get a bit annoying tho

Frostbrand and Ice Sickle, easily. Love the Shadowflame Knife, but the aforementioned weapons hold up far better in versatility.
I'd say that a better option would actually be the flying knife, due to its freedom and infinite piercing its quite good against destroyer, and after that you can try and farm for the bananarangs or make the light disks. Or you could use a flail, which despite most being boring like yoyos, are still an incredibly powerful option since the rework in 1.4
I knew my intuition was right when i always saw that weapon as one of the best of the early game, always when i'm activating hardmode y summon instantly goblin army just to get that knife, my life gets a lot easier using it xD i even have defeated some great bosses like plantera with it
When I play classless, this and the onyx blaster are always the first weapons I get. Both can carry to pre-golem

I grinded for bananarangs forgetting this was even a thing lol. Bananarangs are good but honestly they're not as good as this one. I'd say go for this and try and get the death sickle for plantera
You kill basic Goblins so far that I actually try to run away and kill nothing during Hardmode Goblin invasions so more Goblin Summoners spawn. That way, I don’t accidentally rush the event and have none spawn
i still find it funny how the Goblin Summoner drops weapons for the other three classes but not a single summoner item...
