Thanks for this! I'm a yoga teacher, this was a problem for me. Also - you can save your recordings directly to your computer, to avoid the 1GB cloudspace limit.
Very true! The only issue there is on local recording there isn't the magic option to record active speaker, gallery view and shared screen separately in 3 diff files, that option only shows up for me if I select cloud recording (on a paid zoom account, not locked at an admin level like Ben's in the video).
I've done this by having a second computer, only used for recording, connected to the zoom call. Just have it muted and with video turned off, pin the person you wish to record and start the recording on that computer.
Good point, sometimes having a separate computer is also useful if you want to be 100% sure what participants see when you're screen sharing/spotlighting people etc: th-cam.com/video/PAa9bUWSyc4/w-d-xo.html
How do I ensure only my image in the video is recorded when I have my attendees also unmuting and speaking in the call? SO technically they are also active speaker at times....but for privacy I would prefer only my face with their voices when they're sharing? Is that the pin feature? I am also sharing my screen throughout as well for reference. Thanks so much!
Is it possible to video record ONLY the host, even when one of the participants is talking? At the end of the class, I share things with the class, and then get questions and comments from them. I don't want to record them when they speak, for privacy reasons. Thank you!
It's been almost a year since I made this video so I don't remember everything off the top of my head, but if you watch the whole video it should explain how to do exactly that.
Thank you. But what if the student speaks? For confidentiality purposes, can I record only me even if someone else is speaking? And can we still hear the question (which would be ideal)?
If you spotlight yourself and remain in speaker view then you should be the only one who shows up in the recording, but I recommend testing in advance to be sure.
Hi Ben, This is excellent! Thank you! Also, if I share my screen as speaker, will that record in the same recording? Or is that a seperate recording ie. Speaker in one and shared screen in a second recording and I would need to edit them together at the sharing points. OR did shared screen mean someone else sharing and my share would be part of the speaker recording. Hope all that made sense. Thanks so much!
Hi Tanya - if you are doing a local recording everything goes in one file. If you have a pro account with cloud recording there is an option to record speaker/gallery/shared screen views all to separate files.
Thanks for this. Alot of tutors now record live classes that rhey upload ans as a student i am concerned about this, so i always check what they plan to record before signed up!
Hi Ben! This is so helpful! I'm wondering if there's a way for me to only record the video of my student in my one-on-one Zoom coachings? I am an acting and audition coach and sometimes my students need a recording of themselves only reading a scene that we are working on. Is there a way for me to read with them but only capture their video and not mine at all?
Hi - it has been a while since I made all these Zoom videos during the pandemic - usually people ask about the reverse (only record yourself while not recording students). Are you able to just turn off your own video, or do they need to be able to see you while they're reading? (sorry for the delayed reply, TH-cam stopped sending me comment notifications for some reason)
@@BenFinio gotcha - yes they need to be able to see me while they are reading. I figured it out. It's kind of weird, but if you choose to record the video to your computer instead of the Zoom cloud then it will record the pinned person only. I'm not sure why it works that way but it does! Hopefully, someone else will see this comment if they're trying to figure out the same thing! TY for your response!
I’m trying to figure out the same thing. Thanks for the heads up. I wonder if there is anyway to do it on the Zoom Cloud though so it doesn’t take up all the memory?
Last I checked, you can record speaker + gallery + shared screen views all to separate files with cloud recording, but that requires a paid subscription.
Can this be achieved locally rather than on the cloud? As I have many classes a day it would use up the cloud storage very quickly before I have time to download it.
@@BenFinio That's not what he's asking. He's not asking about how to do this with dual monitors. Is it possible to have only ONE monitor and record active speaker and gallery mode as separate recordings but be able to do it locally vs in the cloud? I manage to record my group classes and only me is on the screen in the video as everyone is on mute. But when I teach a 121 class I don;t have the participant muted so when they speak to me - their video pops up, so I have to edit them out with editing software if I am going to use the video for someone else at a later date. Hi Ben, I do live Tai Chi classes and I tried the cloud recording with separate videos for me and for the gallery. I wanted to put the replay up of me, but my separate video was not very high quality, while the gallery view was very clear. How do I make sure my separate video is HD?
Hi Ken - unfortunately you're limited by the actual resolution of your video in the Zoom call, which can be much lower than the full resolution of your webcam. I don't think there's any way to guarantee recording a single camera in HD. See this page: support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/207347086-Using-Group-HD-video
Can I with a pro account, record locally, me as speaker but I have my screen set to gallery? Is this possible locally or only via the cloud recording? Thank you Rx
Since the zoom cloud recording quality is pretty blah I want to record locally on my computer where the quality seems better. However it doesn’t seem to record speaker view on my computer, it’s recording only gallery view. Any ideas?
Local recordings only record a single file, it won't do separate files for speaker/gallery like the cloud recording does. See this video: th-cam.com/video/KhjZZSSHfOg/w-d-xo.html
