MY MAN. I love tutorial videos like this - no noise, flashy intro or affiliate links. Just plain useful info. I just ran this and it worked like a CHARM- thank you so much!! A side note to anyone who might be having trouble making a new partition: DOUBLE CHECK STEP 5a!! (Make sure you discern between whether or not your drive partition style is set to GPT or MBR. When you are in the diskpart program, run "list disk" and keep an eye out for the table it provides--specifically the "Gpt" column. If there's no asterisk there (in the drive your provisioning), then make sure you don't use the command shown in this video, but follow Step 5.1.ii. ("create partition primary id=27"). I did this exact thing and began following the steps in this video on Step 5.b. and had no problems- hopefully this helps somebody out there :)
Check if your disk uses gpt or mbr method of partitioning because if yours is mbr you will have to use a different command than one showed at on particular instance .....everything is the same. So I recommend reading Microsoft's guide on the same to get the alternative command if yours is mbr
Not only did this work for my friends computer, but I was finally able to get her game installed that kept failing to install because of this update. Legend!
Just a suggestion. in case the MBR disk users get the error. at 2:55 you should mention to check if the (*) on the Gpt. the MBR part creation uses "create partition primary id =27" which you've listed on the Notepad at left.
This will only work if your recovery partition is right after the main. If not, it will not be able to use the free space you created as it will be in 2 pieces. How I solved this was to take 780 from the main partition (the 530 from the original recovery partition + the 250 we are adding) and formatted the old 530 to a basic NTFS partition and named it "FU MS" with no drive letter. This both keeps recovery from using the old smaller partition and keeps it hidden from the user. Then I continued setting up the new partition and reenabled WinRE. It worked.
It's pathetic how slightly vague Microsoft makes their instructions for us to fix their screw up, not to mention that they think everyone knows what the hell they are talking about like we actually went to college for that stuff! At the very least, they should have included pictures, let alone videos. Thanks to this good man, people like myself had been able to fix this issue all because he took the time to share this method with everyone. Thank you Srikant Sahu!
I'm totally stuck at where we are to recreate the recovery partition. It displays a message reading: "The arguments specified for this command are not valid. For more information on the command type: HELP CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY" I typed the HELP CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY. Then a bunch of stuff is there but none looks like what I'm seeing on the video. So, I guess that's where the end of the road is. All done with that trick - hey thanks for ending the narrative part of the instructions exactly where I needed them most. NICE!!! Now I'm all done with any future Windows updates and will not no longer need them!!! And that's why all of my other laptops are Linux OS. Alright Linux, lets load you on another one of my laptops so you can remind me how much easier Linux is.
I can't shrink the partition Virtual Disk Service error: The specified shrink size is too big and will cause the volume to be smaller than the minimum volume size.
Thank you!! I had the Microsoft written instructions and this video pulled up and I was able to complete these steps and my issue is resolved. Here we are nearly 4 months out from this issue first occurring (January 2024) and Microsoft still hasn't fix it. We're having to fix the issue on our own. I can't imagine people with very little computer knowledge being comfortable doing this.
For those who still have the issue with the update, Try changing the values on the shrink command value from "shrink desired=250 minimum=250" to "shrink desired=500 minimum=500" as the file is slightly bigger than 500 mb.

At 2:55 you magically copy/paste some random information after the "create partition primary" without any explanation. Do we need to invent some random information or should we use the exact same thing you magically copy/paste? Thanks for any clarification.
In case anyone reads my comment above... I typed exactly the same information exactly as Srikant Sahu does in the video and my update worked perfectly. I had no idea what that seemingly random info he copy/paste in, but it all worked out.
These commands copy and paste from the Microsoft support site, as this solution suggested by Microsoft only its not my invention. I have just created video on how to perform this instruction. Here is Microsoft article link for your reference support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/kb5028997-instructions-to-manually-resize-your-partition-to-install-the-winre-update-400faa27-9343-461c-ada9-24c8229763bf
NO IDEA why this happened, however I did this and rebooted and it automatically went into recovery mode. I booted into command prompt and my drive letter was changed to E and an old mechanical drive I have changed to C. Gave me a good scare for a minute, however loading back into diskpart and assign letter=, reboot, go into bios, change boot to your windows drive and save and exit, fixed it. Have no idea why it did that and dont see anyone else in comments saying the same.
This worked for me as well! I thank you so much this has been irritating me for months and I finally concluded Microsoft was going to make me fix it, and thanks to you, I did it.
I had no idea what that seemingly random info he copy/paste in, but it all worked out.
follow the article instruction, as he is. lol @@myspewedcomment156
I did everything up to the point I have to enable it and it keeps saying REAGENTC.EXE: The Windows RE image was not found. Please help
Me too. Do you know what we have to do now?
Straight to the point. No intro, no bs. And it worked like a charm
You're a legend.
Thank you so much! 👌
For those who had an error when creating the partition (because I did) I realized mine was an MBR disk so I clicked on the Microsoft link in the description and used the MBR line to create it, and it worked. Again thank you so much! 👍
Awe-some! You enabled me to fix an error which was bothering me for quite some while. Thanks a lot and best of luck! Sidenode: Ich had to manually copy several values that were too long to type which others might want too as well: "create primary partition id=de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac" and "GPT ATTRIBUTES=0xC000000000000001"
man.... i wished i found this video sooner. spent way to much time trying to follow their instruction and failing. Thanks man you the best!
hi can you please help the command "format quick fs=ntfs label=”Windows RE tools" is giving error the arguments specified for this command are not valid. I have done all the steps correctly i can see the recovery partition is larger size but cannot execute this command.
Type the command properly its: format quick fs=ntfs label=”Windows RE tools” may be you are adding extra " before type format......
@@SrikantSahu i did do it properly without the " still encounter error but now i have manage to fix and i got the update. Temporary i turned off bitlocker encryption and then i can tuen on reagent c then i got the update thanks very much for this tutorial.
@@sajidkhanmahmood how ????
Thank you. Worked like a charm. Would have never done this by MS written manual, lol.
I´ve followed the steps but my recovery partition remains at 500MB, any hint at what might be the issue? Thanks
Thank you so much!!! I was so annoyed Updates would constantly Error with no update from Microsoft on the issue. Glad there was a video to follow along with the instructions to make sure everything worked properly. Cheers!
Don't bother. Its been overridden by 22H2 KB5034763. First it installed the removal tool for KB5034441. The overridden update is the patch update for KB5034441. KB5034441 is no longer and it doesn't apply to laptops
with your video and using copy and paste from microsoft instructions this fix worked flawlessly. Thank You.
This is just awesome. I followed blindly and it worked. Almost had issues with the longest code but I went ti the support site and copied the code and it was seamless following you. Thanks so much for your help
Thank you for your feedback 😀
ive double checked, i selected the right volume, when i tried the shrink command it returns
You may not shrink OEM, ESP, or recovery partitions, or, offline volumes.
The volume you have selected may not be shrunk.
Please select another volume and try again.
Advice?
Im getting the same message. ugh
I'm an idiot. I was trying to shrink the recovery disk. The guy shrank one of the primary disks, not the recovery one.
"To select the OS disk, run sel disk This should be the same disk index as WinRE" this part is confusing to me because I don't know how to check the WinRE disk index so I just set it to 0, like you did. It's probably why this didn't work for me, although I tried doing it twice. Welp, I do hope that I didn't mess my windows or something. 😄
Love it. No bullshittery, just the right solution.
Thank you very much for this amazing fix!
i have problem cuz my recovery is on windows reserved and i cant install update there. I tried to move recovery to different, fresh 250mb partition but its stil on windows reserved...dunno if i should just resize windows reserved +250mb and update will go through? also i should not format system reserved as it may have boot data or something important...
This was very helpful because the Microsoft article gave no examples. great job!
Dziękuję bardzo .Zrobione zgodnie z instrukcja .Wszystko ok
I followed every step. Still not installing this update. What is the next move?
after enter format quick fs=ntfs label="Windows RE tools" command i have problem DiskPart has encountered an error: The parameter is incorrect.
See the System Event Log for more information. how to fix it please help me
Thank you, the instructions on Microsoft werent very helpful on telling us which partition so I appreciate the visual
Incredible! It worked. Glad there is a video showing this Microsoft guide step by step. Overall very easy fix,
Thanks for your feedback!
Guys I did everything, no errors encountered during the command prompt part the update error is still there. Any ideas?
Your recovery partition might be fx. as a first partition, and OS last. So when you shrink you OS partition you are not able to use it's space. It is still the same size. You can check it after you have created it.
@@RetroZwierz Thanks for the reply I did what he said in the vid 2 times back to back and it finally worked
With this command:
DISKPART> shrink desired=250 minimum=250
I got this answer:
Virtual Disk Service error:
The specified shrink size is too big and will cause the volume to be
smaller than the minimum volume size.
:( What I doing now?
did you find out? I'm having the same issue
No :( still waiting for the answer of video creator
@@claire-yp1os Hello, I called Microsoft support directly and they advised me to download MediaCreationTool22H2 directly from their site. I reinstalled windows (just like an update) leaving all files, programs and settings. It helped me. I recommend. If you don't know how to do it, I'll make a video about it. It's super easy :).
Same problem

@@paulrandall9628 Hi, I make and just uploaded tutorial that helped me, I hope it helps you too :)
This felt like defusing a bomb. Im not tech savvy and i hated this process but you made it effortless. Thank you so so much for this wonderful guide.
I have encountered the problem as well. Then I tried to make the corrections as you suggested and it turned out to be 100% successful and I was able to come back and update again.
...Best regards
First of all thanks for video.
if you get "The arguments specified for this command are not valid.
For more information on the command type: HELP SHRINK" when you shrink volume from primary part of disk so while doing "shrink desired-250 minimum-250" that you can change that command with "SHRINK DESIRED=250 MINIMUM=250".
yea , i succesfully installed kb5034441, ...but now it won't install kb5001716 and jumps straight to error 0x80070643 without even trying to install it ,....(but wait it allready installed that one ,....but is stuck on trying to reinstall it ,nice ...errr) ,.....thank you to srikant sahu ,for the detailed help and the efforts ,your fix works ,i successfully resized the winre partition and installed kb5034441 ,but i'm starting to think microsoft doesn't want us to fix windows 10 and is maybe nudging /bullying us common folk toward win 11 ,i'll give it a little and then if 5001716 dosn't fix itself ,i'll try to further solve the new issue ,....anyway thank you, thank you for the 5034441 fix
I followed all the steps as instructed but it didn't work and I received the same error message, why is that?
hai any update? did u manage to solve it?
Thank you very much for your help, if it weren't for you I would probably end up visiting an IT specialist. Thank you very much indeed and good luck, you are a brilliant man
