Of course, I'm the ONLY person who questions this, and you are the only one to show it! Do these just wear? Every discussion I've ever had ends with, 'that's just the way these old Corollas are. Great video!
I've got a 2003 Toyota Avalon with the 1MZ-FE V6 engine. It has 250K miles on it. I was told the valves don't have to be adjusted on these engines. Is that accurate?
So we have the A2 with 150 Hv Petrol. When i accelarate from stand motor makes a litte slitghtly rattering when running up. i changed oil 5w-30 in now for a week ago. Car has ~140.000km. Is this normal?
There's a chart that correlates the number inside the lifter with the thickness, if they're used u must mic it to see what thickness it is cuz they will be worn
This was going to be my question. Is it the lifter that gets worn, or the block, or the valve, or all 3? The lifter looked worn, but that doesn't mean it was necessarily the main issue.
Peter! I'm trying to diagnose my 2002 corolla sounding like a diesel..when it is not. 1) I'm thinking it's either the lifters or valve clearance: Do I need to remove head or just valve cover to replace lifters? 2) Can I do it with engine in the car? 3) Anything else I should replace/do while I'm in there? Keep up the videos!
Peter, on my 05 rav4 4cyl engine, on the intake side i have a clearance of .50mm between the valve and the camshaft, what could be causing this? thanks.
Can you grind the valve stem if it is tight. & also cylinder head bolt torque specs for toyota celica 1.8, 2001 gt the book says 34 ft. Lbs. then 90° is this ok
Does anyone have the order, or at least the specs for the 1GRFE 4.0 V6, more specifically a 2004 4runner? I lost my footing and a few of the valve tappets fell out and I don’t know where they go, lol. Any help is appreciated!!
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor this is where you come in. I need your help to get the right measurement of all exhaust and intake shims so that I can order from Toyota and just replace

Hello Peter you have great videos. I have a check engine light and I've found #1 has 155 pounds #2+3 have 125 and #4 has 75 pounds, is it possible that it is just valve adjustments? or what?
Thank for responding, sorry but I,m not sure what you mean. My friend's car seems like it has NOT been well maintained, P0300 can be a clog fuel filter to a vacuum leak to ....... in 145,000 miles I'm finding 8 out of the 16 valves are in need to be adjusted, they are under specs.
@@fourwheelinnm4721 remove the 8, look inside for the number, example(5.18) meaning if the valve bucket is 5.18mm in thickness, replace with the 5.22mm.
Just in case anyone else is looking through the comments - you don't. If they are completely worn you can replace them, but you do not adjust them - the oil does the adjustment by creating enough resistance to open the valve at the correct force.
I have 2az-fe (2009 toyota matrix xr) al of 3 exhaust side clearances checked out to be 0.16, except cylinder 4, it was 0.18. Have no idea which lifter bucket to get and there are 35 different sizes...

Yes and yes
So when I understand correctly, you have to take off the chain as well, in order to adjust the valve clearance?
Noted 👍
Love your videos man! You take your time and make them so detailed. Every single bit of info you need to know is given. Thank you very much.

Accurate, just like the "lifetime" oil in manual gearboxes.
built in obsolescence..
Thanks 👍😀
You did not show how to take off the timing chain. Is it simply a matter of finding the detachable link and splitting the chain, or is more involved?
Hi, I will do new video to You.

Do you need to remove the engine to do this job? After how many km you need to adjust them? How much it cost to do this job?
Do this every 50 000 miles

@@fourwheelinnm4721 Peter means the piston rings might be stuck, and that is possibly the cause of the compression difference in the cylinders.

How do you adjust the hydraulic ones?
