- Splitter or Re-Splitter, should you buy a PowerKing, is it a dangerous splitter? I take a few direct hits from flying splits! Rachel finds a giant spider! We are working after dark with new super bright floodlights in the woodyard thanks to Hyperlite. We head to the wood yard to re-split some of the firewood we produced during our Splitter Wars video series. After a long day including a road trip to Canada to pick up a new piece of equipment we are still able to get some splitting done while we try out some new lights in the wood yard. Not worth hurting Rachel. Slow and consistent will win the race and not harm her pretty face. I also think its better to elevate the IBC tote a little. It will save the back. Just a few inches will make the difference without being too high to top off the load. One cinder block high works well.

Rachel,I don’t like spiders either.I could tell you some stories about those things.My husband keeps the house sprayed so it isn’t bad but we have Joro spiders in the south now.They are working their way north.Huge and ugly.I love watching y’all.

I don’t know. I think I would rather just have a traditional splitter. That thing seems a little bit too dangerous to me. Just my two cents. Y’all keep up the great work!!!

Except for 15:38. I felt that through the screen. There definitely needs to be something on the push plate for "traction" to keep the logs from slipping off. Even something as simple as building up several weld spots 1/8" or just a hair taller would make a huge difference. Your wedding tackle will thank you.....
Thanks Dan, we got rid of this splitter and moved on. Too weak and dangerous.
Good thing there was help in case ice was need for swelling.
No doubt, a few more shots and I may have needed to be carried off the field.
My first thought was get that machine raised up which you did address. Second, get a nut/gut guard like Doug put on Adam's splitter. Loved the video and keep up with the great content!

Both of you dont touch the wood as it goes thru the wedge! That is very safe. Congrats.
I agree, that splitter is too fast. If a person would try to run it at its limits repetitively, I feel you would get hurt.
But, it is light and designed (perhaps) for resplits.
Per its specs below (and for $28xx), it should have enough power:

Gary, thank you! We have the 22 ton version, but I still say it’s no where close to 22 tons of splitting force. We do our best to keeps our hands clear while splitting especially on this machine! I will mess with it a little more to see what I can figure out then may move on.
Man-o-Man you had me cringing for you, Heath (twice) lol! You are a tougher man than me to take shots like that and to keep on going. I, like you purchased string lights for our sawmill pavilion. Thanks Steve, I’ve taken my fair share of shots over the years lol. I’m like a trained fighter. Yeah, we like the string lights but the hyper kites are definitely much brighter.

nice lights, and all I've seen is a machine that is cutting kindling. Would have liked to see it hit some big rounds.
Thanks Greg, we have some other videos where we tried it with rounds. It failed most of the time. We have since gotten rid of that splitter.

I try ti do some bundle wood while I splitting so I don't have too may resplits. That's why I kept my old Countyline!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
David, for sure! These splits are all from when we ran out splitter wars series. I’d love to add an axis for bundle wood, smoker wood, etc. I’d say a Countyline would work much better for producing bundle wood than this Power King!
Never know what Heath and Rachel are going to show us next ! Maybe more horse power is needed ?

I agree the push plate is the main culprit. I think it’s too large as well. However, if you weld some grip to it, perhaps it will be alright. I also agree that something seems amiss power wise. What that may be, I’m clueless. I only ran a handful of sticks through it - so you know more than I. One thing for certain, it’s not worth the money I paid for it as it is. PowerKing should be ashamed at putting out such a unit.

That it is Mark. I’m going to mess with it and see what I can figure out. It definitely makes for some good entertainment though. I’m too stubborn to let it win. You are correct, Rachel shows no mercy lol. At least the Wolf Spider tried to get some pay back for me.
Those Hyperlites perform very well.
The power king is the first splitter that should require wearing a cup! BUT, that dastardly laugh explains why the life insurance agent is on her speed dial.🙂

Here in Europa they build a protection around the hitting part for safety . And if the hight is some higher it wil be better for the bag. I love your video and u are doing at least 1,2 cub wood in have a our .. super

Hi, Having been an electrical engineer with 40 years experience in connectors and LED lighting I can tell you that you are doing a great job with both. As for the splitter, I think it's too fast, especially if you are planning to have kids. That flyer hurt me from here! lol You might want to change the gear ratio to slow it down. I converted my Super Split to a 1hp elcetric drive motor ten years ago. It splits just as well and there is no noise. BTW Did you know that red LEDs can promote healing? Look for a book titled The Ultimate Guide To Red Light Therapy by Ari Whitten. Good Luck! Shalom/gw

The original Super split had wheels with a greater circumstance. The Super split splits about anything.

JB, from everything I’ve seen the Super Split is by far the superior kinetic style log splitter available.

Actually, all I have is resplits to run. I was going to run them through the Axis, but I decided to do it through the Power King since it was my resplit machine.

No doubt! The flying pieces are fairly common too, not just a freak happening hear or there.
Try a large heavy knot? When it blows it's going to shatter your hips

I have to get on the stick with a neighbor who is willing to donate wood for labor. if you're a wood burner for heat never can have too much stored.

Those kinetic splitters are nice, but the blow outs can be dangerous. Joe @OWB has the SuperSplit and I have not seen it throw pieces like that. I agree that you should weld a plate on the pusher to give more grip.
I can see where they have a place in the wood yard if they work well. I will say I believe the Super Split is a much higher quality machine than this Power King.
Rachael is going to have to keep a rolled up newspaper or spray bottle around for when Heath gets out of line. 😂

A while back when I purchased my splitter I considered a kinetic splitter for like a fraction of a second because out here in Southern California the type of wood I get there's no way it would split it
David, I know the super split is a lot nicer but I still think I’d prefer hydraulic for most of my needs.
@@hardworkingmanoutdoors you know different parts of the country you get different species of wood and not going to lie when I moved here it was a big learning curve. Like some of the logs i got i had no idea what it was but found out you really gotta watch out for exploding rounds that fly out of the splitter

It is best to stagger the 3 wire connection so it is not so fat at the joints.

I know every power tool can be dangerous but is the speed worth the danger of flying wood? My little 5 ton "porch splitter" just died and I wanted a 5-7 ton kinetic to replace it but after watching these more realistic videos I think another little electric over hydraulic unit is safer for my family to run.
To be honest the only kinetic I would consider would be a super split, but I think you’d be much better off with the electric over hydraulic splitter than one of the budget kinetic ones.
HI FOLKS ,, well i think that i am the newest member here but what i just seen i don't know for how long [ lol ] i am 75 yrs old and i ran alot of differant wood splitters but never seen one as dangerous it that one WOW why in the hell does that ram have to run so fast that is crazy unless u want to loose your teeth or yourr man hood OK i said enough thanks😁😁
Tom, I am not a fan of this splitter as is. I may try to figure out how to make if work better or just move on. It is too fast and too poorly designed as is to be safe in my opinion.
can the kinetic splitter work with any three/four/five was wedges vs just a two way?
I’d say no! This one didn’t even work well with the single blade.

Converting the hand triger to a foot peddle makes splitting faster.
I can see that.
I noticed when you had the wood oriented so you was not crossing a lot of rings. It seemed to split better. Think of it like splitting flat sawn versus quarter sawn. If that makes any sense. Great video. No hurting Your wife.

Hi, If you buy/build a wood pike (It's just a 4' pole with a spike in one end) you won't have to bend over to pick up wood or hold it on your splitter. I am 74 with a bad back, I use th pike all the time and rarely touch the wood to split it. My mission is to help as many people as I can until the Lord calls me home. the power king kinetic log splitter can sure kicks but at any time and at any day of the week hay.
It is fast but not smooth! Definitely have to be on your toes!
Ive been watching a Ukrainian group using an electric kinetic splitter and they split some huge oak on it.
I have seen a few electric ones that seem to work well. This one just seems underpowered.

Heath, maybe throttle that thing down. It's DANGEROUSLY FAST at full throttle. Looks like a 1 second cycle time, maybe a bit less that that! Yeah, you'll lose a bit of power, but probably keep the wood from kicking out a bit...
Maybe weld some expanded steel to the pusher plate too, or some 3/4" pieces of cut angle iron to give the pusher some traction.
It is a fast cycle time for sure. Definitely have to look into a solution to keep the splits from kicking out.
Really looking forward to seeing you try to knock off Andrews time doing 1/3 of a cord. There wasn't much mucking around with his splitting.
Alan, he was flying through the wood but did have a few mistakes. He also doesn’t have a Rachel lol.
Heath that splitter is flat dangerous! My hydraulic splitter has serrated bars welded on the push plate to hold the rounds in place. Works really well. Rachel is likely to get a piece flung at her as well. Be careful!!

Them machines need a run up, ive put 50 metres through mine last year but i split 8-10 inch wood so it got a run up
I am going to check a few things out, belt tension etc. Even when I let it run for a while without splitting it seems the same?
Hey guys 👋 them kinetic splitters are quick, i know because i got one but damn, yours has chucked more in your nuts in your video than mine has in the 7 years ive owned it. Im just preparing my own pile of logs to partake in the challenge, unfortunately mine will have to be face stove cord as theyre cut to 12" instead of 16"
Awesome job though guys, that blade deffo needs sharpening, mines always getting touched up to keep sharp and it makes a difference too.

I would like to race you with your Kentucky against our 32 year old Super Split.
Foot peddle triger makes our much faster.
No way I would put this Power King up again a super split and expect anything but to lose.
How are you Liking the Power King? Any issues mechanically? 42 Tons? How is it on big rounds?
This power king was a complete failure in my opinion. It is extremely underpowered, dangerous, I’ve never had so many pieces of wood fly off a splitter and my life. If I was going to go kinetic, I would probably go super split or nothing.

We don’t work at night a ton but I like working at night during the summer when it’s too hot during the day, we are busy with other stuff all day (sports etc), and in the fall/winter when the days are too short.
Ya. Never was a fan of those splitters. And the way my back is, I wouldn’t of been at it very long.

John, these splits were produced during our splitter wars video series. Their is a playlist for them. We compared different splitters, All Wood, Eastonmade, Wolfe Ridge, and some box store splitters head to head.

If you're wood is flying off the wedge you're running the engine to fast you only need half throttle

Jimmy, we do occasionally. I am not a fan of snakes but just scare them off. I’d prefer snakes around over mice! They at least stay out of the house.

It did okay on the birch. I was surprised at how much it struggled with some of the straight grained maple!

Well I was gonna ask how it was working with a new man in the wood yard with the fresh haircut but after getting hit in the junk 2x I am not sure the man made it out of the wood yard !!! That's why I don't like those splitters to unpredictable
Chris, I appear to have lost my mojo when the mullet was cut lol. They are definitely not my favorite! I’m still going to use it some and see what I can figure out but at this point I’m definitely keeping my eye out for a used Ultra!
That machine will need to get raised to at least belt high. Also, I would recommend putting a bigger push plate on there as well as adding sheet metal screws or welding beads so you don’t have an accident. Also why haven’t you sharpened the all wood??,

Thanks Lucas, I just sharpened the All Wood, made a few adjustments, and ran the 1/3rd of a cord challenge again. Let’s just say we greatly improved our time! Video should post Sunday morning! Possible new leaders and regaining the title from Andrew!

Charlie, I am trying to decide bags or bundles? My main issue is that they tend to get stolen more from the roadside stands. Trying to figure out if they are worth it with the added work and increased theft rate. If I can not improve the Power King it won’t be in my Woodyard much longer either.

This was only our second time running it. I am going to see if I can make it work better and if not it will have a short visit in my wood yard! Definitely not a fan of getting hurt!
You have electricity there, get RID of the damned petrol engine and put a 240V 3hp motor on it. Quiet and same RPM.

Lol i see why it was given to you they tbought the same its a pc of junk. I found your channel month or so ago. I love cutting and splitting wood i have always heated with would and wouldnt change it sold few pickup loads here and there but i like splitting wood
Thanks for watching! I started heating with wood as well. Then it was about teaching my kids the value of earning a buck to pay for extras instead of expecting hand outs. Then it kept growing. I also enjoy working outdoors. It’s a win win!
