no, that's not how you play RPGs. Any good rpg would have either a heal point, or at least an obvious indication that you're near a boss so you know to heal. If you only attack, you're not even making use of the rpg elements you have.
Here are the official rules for a Chuggaaconroy M&L PiT play through: 1. You can only upgrade HP every time you level up. 2. You can only go to the Peach's Castle Shop Once. Other shops are fine. 3. You can not drill through the pipe with Fawful's shop behind it. 4. You can not use Bros Items on ANY battle UNLESS it is a Boss Battle!
Wait people use bros items against non-bosses!? I always saved those strictly for bosses It made that point in the past mushroom village where the bros and the babies separate much more harder...
While I was smiling the whole way through, I could actually relate to Chugga on the special moves one. I would NEVER use them unless if it was a boss. Only then could I use them.
wanna know how bad i was in superstar saga? well i was at jojora and the part where u have to spit water at the tornado to open a door? well i never knew i was supposed to do that there was no signs or explanations for that so i was stuck. then i somehow lost the game. THEN i got it for wii u then i was right back to where i was then i FINALY got past it. thats how bad i was
I was in a similar situation. I got stuck at Beanbean Airport, and could never figure out how to get rid of the Piranta Plants. Either I missed the Old Man who hints what to do, or I never figured out what he meant, but I never beat the game and traded it away. Only got further in the game years later, on an emulator.
The carrot mini game was fucking hell when I was younger, due to me being constantly distracted and missing the spot where the enzymes were. Now it's actually pretty easy for me, because I'm actually paying attention to the screen on my 2DS.
No worries, my brother also picked HP...until I pointed out that it's weird for the game to let you pick HP over and over again. Then I picked POW for every level up in SuperStar Saga.
Chuggaconroy isn't alone, I remember I had no idea as a kid that you could chose what stat you want and ended up having high hp for both Luigi and Mario and this led me to giving up on the Swiggler boss battle because they could only do 1 or 2 damage. 3 if i was lucky, to this day I hope to find another copy of Partner's in time to correct my dumb choices and beat the game.
to be fair with Emile, i baaaaaarely used MP/Attack Items through the games (and i mean from Superstar Saga to Bowser's Inside Story...the other two didn't catch my attention so i didn't played them) and tbh, an itemless (kinda) underleveled fight vs Dark Bowser makes the battle even way better, and that fight is already awesome as it is

I think I have one worse. When was younger I must have had some heavy ocd-esq mindset because when I saw you could level up the stats via roulette i tried to make them all equal...including Stache and HP. Effectively this meant that earlygamr I never put anything into HP and late game I only put stuff into stache. It also took forever to get through anything since I was overly balanced.
There is just one thing you forgot. Remember Chugga's complaints about the final boss? Well, it looks like Chugga is still the worst mario and luigi player out there. Because before that fight, there is a save block. A save block that he never noticed.
Rendom Stranger yeah. I remember how everyone freak out, hey the save (ALBUM) is righr here. And yet, despite talking to the toads in that room, he still missed it.
When I first played Bowser's inside story, the parts I struggle on were the Giant Bowser fights where you had to tilt your DS sideways, but the one fight I think I struggle the most was when you had to chase down the train before it reached the end because of the pressure of screwing up your commands and giving chances for the train to make it's getaway, plus having to blow into your microphone to breath fire on the train which means I would feel light-headed sometimes during the fight.
when my friend got me this game the first time i played it i avoided enemies as much as possible making me have a low level, i didn't care about beans since i skipped through his dialogue and thought they were a waste so i never collected any of them, finally i barely went to shops since i thought it would take forever to get there and never bought to many of the expensive clothing since i didn't fight many enemies, this fight i tried and failed a lot of the bros attacks since i didn't fight very much and i never beat it, since then i have been playing the game right (i was around 7-9 when i got the game).
I played through bowsers inside story and I was someone who didn't read the text just followed the map... I got stuck trying to get the last star cure from the guy you had to knock over for (and I would try to figure this out on and off but never looked it up) 5 whole years! I was 6 when I got stuck and I'm 13 right now, also as a kid I thought "Damage is good so I'll only up attack" and I got stuck so many times up to the point where I got stuck for 5 years, I got stuck on the fight vs the pig guy in bowsers castle, I got stuck on the carrot eating mini game, I got stuck when bowser got locked in a vault, got stuck fighting the train, got stuck when bowser got electrocuted and you could only use Mario and Luigi, got stuck on the ice pig boss and didn't know you could make him weak by eating the snowmen, got stuck on the trash boss, and there are probably more. Even after all of that it's still one of my favorite games I've ever played. (I was bad at rpgs when I was a kid)

I still read every text, and always accepted every tutorial, even on repeat playthroughts, simply because I either liked to pretend I'm playing the game blind, or I roleplayed as the characters (if they don't know how to do a certain skill, then I don't either). I do have a story with Superstar Saga thought. I got stuck forever when I had to go to Beanbean airport. I got there, and I simply could never figure out what to do with the Piranta Plants (they respawn if you just defeat them in a battle). And despite there being an NPC nearby, who gives the following hint "WATER can be extracted from these plants. They don't like being SHOCKED when wet"... I just never figured it out. Either I missed that npc. Or I was just unable to figure out what he means. i didn't know what to do. So I went exploring. I found the hammer upgrade cave. I got in TeeHee Valley, went all the eay to the end, but there was a monster sleeping and blocking the way. It wasn't until years later, when i no longer had the game, that I looked up what to do, and found out what I was suppose to do.
In Dream Team, most enemies are not very tough. But maybe that’s just me when it comes to RPGs, I overlevel on most of them, but then in Pokémon I end up going under leveled. For example, I’m going through the post-game of pokemon white, and since the elite four my team has been in the 50s. And I’m nearly done with it, just need the nature deity and Kyurem.
I actually still only use bros/special moves in boss battles (Granted in SS/PT I was a quick learner and good at them, and BISS - onward I practiced them in the practice mode) I killed bosses extremely fucking fast any way with my working strat in *Every* M&L game + some skill
Stupid things I did in games because I didn’t know better: -Using Lick on a Pidove not knowing Lick was a Ghost type move -Driving off Rainbow Road in Mario Kart Wii Thinking a raised section of the track near the finish line was an alternate route when it wasn’t -Thinking Triple Jump in the Jupiter Circuit in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games was Long Jump and forcing myself to get nothing but fouls due to me not knowing to thrust the Nunchuk upward on my second jump -Playing with the horn in Mario Kart Double Dash and purposely missing item boxes because I though the horn was fun -Repeatedly honking the horn in Mario Kart 8 and not paying attention to the race for the same reason as Double Dash -Thinking you could unlock the guys you fight in Punch Out Wii as playable characters (that game’s so boring with them all as NPC’s) -Wasting all my money in Sim Theme Park/Theme Park World on the PS1 and not being aware of it until the advisor said “You’re flat out of money and if you don’t get more in the next six months you’ll be bankrupt”...and being out of loans to take out
I’ve never had too many problems when playing games, aside from sharing Emile’s young issue of “Why read when I’m playing a game?” When I was younger. But I think I do remember some particularly bad habits. In M&L games, I ALWAYS grind enemies till I’m way overleveled, making the game less fun, and boring. But at the same time I actively avoid battles, even though I’m too strong. But then I also have the opposite problem. In playing Pokémon, I find my teams to be pretty underleveled. In fact, until a few years ago I played the games using mostly just my starter Pokémon. In leaf green I had a stupid powerful ivysaur, but could not beat Gary in cerulean city.
In bowsers inside story, I was pathetic at button mashing... I never got broggy or beat the final boss because I never inhaled because I had so much trouble with mashing X Yeah...
The 4th one I kinda did the same thing when I was younger What i ment is never using magic consuming items or magic consuming items unless it was a boss Mostly the stat boosting moves
Not sure if it's better or worse that I knew about the things Emile didn't and yet I did the exact same thing with Partners in Time because I didn't think Fawful or equipment or stats other than HP were important. And it took me 2 hours to deal with Elder Princess Shroob. And back then, she was one of my most hated bosses because of how long she took.
It feels comforting knowing we’ve all had stories about being bad at this game. Heck, I used to avoid every battle because I was afraid of fighting. I never got past the Vim Factory… until I picked it back up years later.
I have one really bad story, in partners in time, I never bought or equipped any equipment. I went through the game up until you fight this boulder person on top of a volcano. I struggled so much with that boss only to find out I was a huge idiot when I discovered the shop lol.
It's funny he never knew about choosing the level up bonus stats because both games manuals tell you about this. I've noticed a lot of things he never knew about games is because he never tried to do some things
The first story I can relate to Except I went through THREE GAMES: Superstar Saga, Partners in Time, and Bowser’s Inside Story Only after finishing all 3 and seeing videos around YT that shows Level Up and all that did I realize this
When I first played Superstar Saga, I got all the way to Teehee Valley without ever using Bros moves, because I couldnt do them correctly. I beat every boss until then with Solo jump, hammer, and hand moves. Cackletta took me over 10 minutes.
Tbh, I still never use Bros. Attacks (Special Attacks in BiS) unless it’s a boss battle. Except if I’m really impatient and wanna finish regular battles quicker, lol.
If think that was worse, I was stuck on the caterpillar level for so long. I didn't know you have to keep fighting him until he's gone. My dumbass self XD
If I ever meet chuggaconroy I would tell him I was bad at Mario & Luigi games. I knew about chosing which stats to buff, but I always avoid any enemies I see so it made the boss battles take a lot longer and leveling up took way to long for me. Another thing is that I never changed my equipment because I thought it was pointless. So I never went to an equipment shop and thought I should waste my coins on only healing items.
Here is a story when I was young playing the first three games. When I was a kid I somehow was able to play Superstar Saga on pc idk y but it works lol. At the part where you have to collect those orbs by spin jumping, but I wasn't good at it. So I ended up crying on the floor under the bed since I wasn't able to complete it as a kid. As for PiT I did enjoy it but sadly since my DS got a broken mic and a somehow working "L" and "R' buttons (mostly broken at that point) I wasn't able to continue but since I got R4 I used cheats to continue the game. For BiS I ended up stopping cuz I can't do the giant battles as a kid thx to my broken mic which was 100% impossible for me to continue lol.
As a kid, I was rather terrible at RPGs, even though that was pretty much the only type of game I played.... On my first few Pokémon files, my starter always had only attacking moves, those moves were usually of single type (because STAB Overgrowth/Blaze/Torrent was admittedly impressive), was supported by Pokémon that were underused and of types that didn't work well together..... My teams were always a mess, and I lost SO MANY BATTLES. The only reason I didn't lose even more was because of my MASSIVELY OVERLEVELED starters, like my LV.90 Meganium, or my LV.80 Torterra (both while the rest of my party was around LV.30-50!) So, I can empathize with Chugga. :P

Same, saving Bros Items for bosses was the common path I did. I think I got desperate and used items in the final area as just the babies.

Stupid things I did in games because I didn’t know better:
-Using Lick on a Pidove not knowing Lick was a Ghost type move
-Driving off Rainbow Road in Mario Kart Wii Thinking a raised section of the track near the finish line was an alternate route when it wasn’t
-Thinking Triple Jump in the Jupiter Circuit in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games was Long Jump and forcing myself to get nothing but fouls due to me not knowing to thrust the Nunchuk upward on my second jump
-Playing with the horn in Mario Kart Double Dash and purposely missing item boxes because I though the horn was fun
-Repeatedly honking the horn in Mario Kart 8 and not paying attention to the race for the same reason as Double Dash
-Thinking you could unlock the guys you fight in Punch Out Wii as playable characters (that game’s so boring with them all as NPC’s)
-Wasting all my money in Sim Theme Park/Theme Park World on the PS1 and not being aware of it until the advisor said “You’re flat out of money and if you don’t get more in the next six months you’ll be bankrupt”...and being out of loans to take out

I never beat bowsers inside story because I couldn't button mash fast enough to kill the final boss
In Bowser’s inside story i only used bros attacks in boss fights
I think as a kid, everyone leveled up their hp and nothing else, that's what I did in Paper Mario, you can imagine how long it took to beat chapter 6

I’ve never had too many problems when playing games, aside from sharing Emile’s young issue of “Why read when I’m playing a game?” When I was younger.
But I think I do remember some particularly bad habits. In M&L games, I ALWAYS grind enemies till I’m way overleveled, making the game less fun, and boring. But at the same time I actively avoid battles, even though I’m too strong.
But then I also have the opposite problem. In playing Pokémon, I find my teams to be pretty underleveled. In fact, until a few years ago I played the games using mostly just my starter Pokémon. In leaf green I had a stupid powerful ivysaur, but could not beat Gary in cerulean city.
In bowsers inside story, I was pathetic at button mashing... I never got broggy or beat the final boss because I never inhaled because I had so much trouble with mashing X

What i ment is never using magic consuming items or magic consuming items unless it was a boss
Mostly the stat boosting moves
Not sure if it's better or worse that I knew about the things Emile didn't and yet I did the exact same thing with Partners in Time because I didn't think Fawful or equipment or stats other than HP were important. And it took me 2 hours to deal with Elder Princess Shroob. And back then, she was one of my most hated bosses because of how long she took.
It feels comforting knowing we’ve all had stories about being bad at this game.
Heck, I used to avoid every battle because I was afraid of fighting. I never got past the Vim Factory… until I picked it back up years later.
I have one really bad story, in partners in time, I never bought or equipped any equipment. I went through the game up until you fight this boulder person on top of a volcano. I struggled so much with that boss only to find out I was a huge idiot when I discovered the shop lol.

It's funny he never knew about choosing the level up bonus stats because both games manuals tell you about this. I've noticed a lot of things he never knew about games is because he never tried to do some things

3 hour boss fight? I think my record is 10-20 minutes under leveled as heck vs skyrim bosses
When I first played Superstar Saga, I got all the way to Teehee Valley without ever using Bros moves, because I couldnt do them correctly. I beat every boss until then with Solo jump, hammer, and hand moves. Cackletta took me over 10 minutes.

Tbh, I still never use Bros. Attacks (Special Attacks in BiS) unless it’s a boss battle.
Except if I’m really impatient and wanna finish regular battles quicker, lol.

*MAN,* if Chugga ever played the Persona series when he was younger he'd suck because the end-of-chapter bosses typically didn't have type weaknesses.
If I ever meet chuggaconroy I would tell him I was bad at Mario & Luigi games. I knew about chosing which stats to buff, but I always avoid any enemies I see so it made the boss battles take a lot longer and leveling up took way to long for me. Another thing is that I never changed my equipment because I thought it was pointless. So I never went to an equipment shop and thought I should waste my coins on only healing items.

Here is a story when I was young playing the first three games.
When I was a kid I somehow was able to play Superstar Saga on pc idk y but it works lol. At the part where you have to collect those orbs by spin jumping, but I wasn't good at it.
So I ended up crying on the floor under the bed since I wasn't able to complete it as a kid.
As for PiT I did enjoy it but sadly since my DS got a broken mic and a somehow working "L" and "R' buttons (mostly broken at that point)
I wasn't able to continue but since I got R4 I used cheats to continue the game.
For BiS I ended up stopping cuz I can't do the giant battles as a kid thx to my broken mic which was 100% impossible for me to continue lol.
I would of hated this fight even more if it had X2 hp (final boss played on pal version)

6 hours on the final boss? It took me litterelly 3 YEARS to beat that shit.

Well someone might play this game with only leveling hit points oh boy....
As a kid, I was rather terrible at RPGs, even though that was pretty much the only type of game I played.... On my first few Pokémon files, my starter always had only attacking moves, those moves were usually of single type (because STAB Overgrowth/Blaze/Torrent was admittedly impressive), was supported by Pokémon that were underused and of types that didn't work well together..... My teams were always a mess, and I lost SO MANY BATTLES. The only reason I didn't lose even more was because of my MASSIVELY OVERLEVELED starters, like my LV.90 Meganium, or my LV.80 Torterra (both while the rest of my party was around LV.30-50!) So, I can empathize with Chugga. :P
