Wonderful to see - thanks a lot. Scarne used to come visit my mother's house in the late '20s and 1930s. He was friends with my grandfather and used to teach him card tricks and such. How I wish I could have seen The Great One in person!
I saw John Scarne in person.. He was a friend of my dad's. He did tricks for me at a table in my dad's restaurant in Union City. My dad, Larry Klunck, accompanied him to London and Curacao check casinos there. The Hilton in London... He came to my dad's wake..
Wow. It's been a tough year and a hard day, but you just made my year when I found this little gem of a video! Prestidigitation! I love it, thank you. And Happy New Year!
During WW2, the US Army hired John Scarne to tour military bases and show GI's how NOT to be cheated. My Dad met him at one such tour. Scarne could shuffle the deck and deal himself (or anyone else) four aces or four kings, then shuffle the deck and deal himself blackjack, at will. His motto was "If I can do it, so can anyone else, and you'd never know it. So don't play cards, and you won't be cheated." I've read a few of his books. John Scarne was a great magician, and a great man.
You can find it in "revelation" by Dai Vernon op page 363 under the title "perfect the good". In the text it says that Robert-Houdin called it the "Pass Stroke" in his book "The Sharper Detected and Exposed".
read his book probably 50 yrs ago.remember to this day a trick he did in the book.something like pick me out 5 cards, put back in deck&shuffle. john takes the whole deck&throws it at a window&the 5 cards stick, the rest fall to the floor.great trick huh, better yet the 5 cards were on outside of window.would love to find that book &reread
Great pull from the archives! Does anyone know what the trick is called where he places one card under the glass, one card on top, then when he reveals them they have switched (seemingly impossibly) ?
The deck can be examined if you have palmed the duplicated Ace. But the way of using it can vary. If you place the duplicated Ace on bottom, then, after showing the QC on top, you put on table the AC by mean of a bottom dealing. After that you do a double turnover to show the other AC and on top of the glass you put the QC. But easier is to have all the cards on top and only using double lift and double turnover.
I perform this with 2 identical jokers then you can have the deck examined. In fact you can cull the jokers to the top while you're showing the cards. If you reveal you cheated you can then go into a 3 card monte with 2 jokers.
@@kingrobert1st that's a brilliant idea you came up with about using two identical joker's instead of a duplicate ace, number or court card so you can jump into a 3 card Monte routine in case you get caught culling the joker's. Thank you for sharing these tips and I hope you have a wonderful day. ✌️😎👍
It's not just double lifts. How the hell does he manage to control the aces and Queens (which are all over the deck BTW) to the top and in perfect order to allow him to execute double lifts to perform the effect?

Thanks for this video, he was my great uncle and my dad became a magician following in his footsteps. This is a familial treasure
😮
His push-through is incredible
I love how the narrator says "It's easy to do!" Not!
He says that it is easy to learn.
"It can EASILY be mastered."
Lol, sure bud
The effect that begins at 3:53 is outstanding!
He worked on the movie The Sting with Newman and Redford

I love the music that accompanies this!
Scarne on card tricks was one of my first magic books as a ten year old magician. I probably wasn't qualified to study it until I was 20 though.
This dude just fooled me with a dub lift in the middle of already blowing my mind. How the hell have I not heard of his guy?
It was John Scarne's hands doing the false cuts and double dealing in the movie The Sting, not Paul Newman.
One of the best.
Brilliant, just brilliant! Thank you!
He was just brilliant
I didn't know that there was footage of Scarne. This is the guy who invented card magic.
One of the great pioneers of card magic!
Holy shit this is actually so good
moral lesson: don't gamble with a pro magician
Sleight of hand master

'He's mastered every card 13 spades remain on the top of the deck' Interesting editing.
Absolute legend. 10/10.
That push through!
Reading Ian Fleming’s 007 novel “Moonraker”. In it he mentions “Scarne on Cards” book. Never heard of it until now.
Incredible talent
he wrote a book in the 60's(s) i think it was scarne on cards, the hippopatomus story was hilarious. Not just about cards..

He uses two Ace of Clubs (and double turnover of course).

Ah, so the deck is not examinable for this trick. :[
If that is truly the method used, thanks.
