Luck and timing for the majority of these artists. Oftentimes, they are one hit wonders.It's like supply and demand. What ever is trending and hot at that time, if an artist full fills what the trends are looking for at that particular small window frame, they will be the next big thing until another trend comes along or genre of music. I believe southern artists have their unique style and oftentimes doesn't quite make it big the further north (The New York market) they move. Unless, they hit that particular style like "DaBaby". I remember going to Atlanta and hearing rap songs and was asking is this new...I never heard this in New York. I was told, nope, that song has been out for years. Same thing with the West Coast rappers, they usually are not as successful on the East coast, unless, you're a Snoop Dog, etc. Anthony Hamilton has a universal sound that crosses generations and genres of musical taste. However, New York rappers tend to be trend setters and their sound is popular all over, including Europe.
