    What a wonderful guy Chris is Mike to go out of his way to make a copy of Catholics for you! I'll have to check out his channel! I saw Lone Star a while back and I recall liking it. It has a really impressive cast. I think the library might have a copy of it which I might check out to refresh my memory. I'm a huge Scorsese fan and I haven't seen King of Comedy in ages but I also recall liking that as well. I bought a blu ray of it maybe a few years ago. I want to watch it again. I think it's the same edition you have Mike. I have seen Westworld a long time ago. Incidentally, I got one of the seasons of the TV show Westworld at the library in my collection. I think I've heard the TV series is very good.

      Brian, Kris is a really great guy, so I hope you do check out his channel. This was my first time seeing Lone Star. How did I manage to miss such a good movie all this time? The Westworld Blu-ray has the pilot episode for the TV show, which looks pretty interesting. Another great film I managed to miss until now!!

    Hey Mike! Glad to hear you got the full copy of Catholics! So many good picks this time around too. I love King of Comedy. Room 237 was a great look at fan theories on one of my favorite horror films. I'm also a fan of the original Westworld, speaking of which there was a sequel Futureworld which I have been meaning to get around to as well, although I think it received mixed reviews. Anyway, be well & take care. 👍

      Thank you for watching and commenting! I never got a chance to see Futureworld, but after enjoying Westworld so much, I'd like to see it. I still haven't done too much digging into Room 237, but I'll get around to it. The King of Comedy is really an excellent film, and I'm glad I reconnected with it after so many years. Take care!

    Hi Mike. A good round up. Nice to hear that copy of Suddenly is a good print, the dvd I have is quite low quality….I have a set of Martin & Lewis films to watch but have been slow to get to them as I haven’t really enjoyed Jerry Lewis all that much in the past…..I have and like the dvd of Lone Star, Ronin will be pleased to see you got this. Have a good weekend

      Hi Neil, and thanks for commenting. I remember loving Jerry Lewis movies as a kid. But seeing this one again really turned me off. he was great in The King of Comedy. I already let Ronin know how much I loved Lone Star. he said it made his day!

    Hi Mike! Trying to catch up on videos. Never heard of Lonestar. You know, I've never actually watched King of Comedy. Seen plenty of clips and pretty much know the story but haven't watched it. haven.t seen Westworld since I was a kid so I don't remember that much. I did see some of that Palance version of Dracula a couple of months ago but I found it to have very little atmosphere. I'm a big Jerry Lewis fan and Disorderly is one of my favorites. I do remember Ghost Story coming out but haven't seen it either. Take care Mike!

      @grey1951  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      King of Comedy really impressed me after so many years. I'd forgotten just how good it is. I was surprised and disappointed when I didn't enjoy The Disorderly Orderly, because I have a lot of good memories of Jerry Lewis movies. Lonestar is absolutely fantastic, and I highly recommend it!! The Palance Dracula was an interesting version, and I'm glad I own it, but, yeah, Lugosi and Lee all the way! Westworld was a really pleasant surprise.

    Jerry Lewis has always been hit or miss with me. I love The Nutty Professor for instance, but others not so much. As for Room 237, there are certain films where fans tend to go stupid overboard in trying to find some symbolic meaning in every little thing. As Freud once said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar". Those "Television" films are fun just because most people tend to think that television didn't happen until after WWII, when in fact it goes all the way back to the 1920's. I've actually seen a very small handful of films from the 30's and 40's where there's a television in the living room. It was indeed a rare thing to see because the last thing the movie people wanted to do was advertise television. Take care.

    • @grey1951
      @grey1951  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, I never knew TV went back that far!! I think the cultic behavior surrounding certain films is fascinating in a sense but can be way over the top. There used to be a Donnie Darko cult, but that may have died out by now. The only film I have an obsession about is The Endless (2017). I rewatch it often and I think there's something mystical about it. I probably need therapy.

  • @movieedge7370
    @movieedge7370 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    King of comedy Yep I have that in my Jerry Lewis collection. Jerry Lewis doesn’t have much dialogue in that movie, but it was cool seeing you do a movie as a straight character instead of a crazy one. Also, there are similarities from the king of comedy to the movie, Joker

    • @grey1951
      @grey1951  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He was very good in The King of Comedy. The man was extremely talented, and it's a shame he didn't do more serious roles. (Like the "Clown" movie? Jury is out on that one!) Yeah, I can see the similarity to Joker.

    I like King of Comedy. I wasn’t keen on that Dracula film. I’ve seen Suddenly once and enjoyed it a lot. I didn’t mind Zodiac, it’s a little long when I don’t think it needs to be and as for Pulp Fiction, who’d of thought you wouldn’t like it😂🤣 but I like it, I don’t love it. I haven’t seen any of the others.

    • @grey1951
      @grey1951  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Zodiac was as much about the obsession of the investigators as about the killer. I get the concept, but, yeah, it went on way too long. Pulp Fiction has so many terrific moments and scenes, and I love so much about the way the film looks. I wonder if Tarantino has so little confidence in his ability to tell a story that he feels he can't do it without the blood supply. The only other films I've seen are Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown and OUATIH. The only one I intend to keep and watch again is the latter. I gave the other two away a long time ago. Thanks for commenting!

    Mike, Very nice pickups 🛻 and reviews again some titles I’ve written down for future viewings. You’re right for some reason Jerry Lewis movies aren’t as funny as I remember as a kid sometimes he’s just plain annoying, especially the later movies. I know some popular films I don’t get the fandom, although I do enjoy “Pulp Fiction” but there’s a couple of his films being a Christian I don’t like language and especially the “N” word he likes to throw around. But that’s just me. Enjoy your videos and be well my friend

    • @grey1951
      @grey1951  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I guess "annoying" is the best way to describe Jerry Lewis for the most part. But he is terrific in The King of Comedy. I'm not a fan of too much foul language in films. There certainly can be a place for it. But, in my opinion, it's too often overused. It's as if some writers don't think they can tell a realistic story without it. But the first 40-odd years of film history proves them wrong. Not to mention all the incredible years of dramatic television. Great comments!

  • @movieedge7370
    @movieedge7370 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Oppenheimer was a good movie. I think I wouldn’t call it a bio pic because there’s a lot of overdramatic scenes in that movie and when you see it you’ll know what I mean. I’d rather see more detail than some directors vision of what happened.

    • @grey1951
      @grey1951  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Mayb it would have been better to make a documentary. Most docudramas tend to take a lot of liberties or overdramatize.

    I think I've got a copy of the Christopher Lee Dracula's which I think were Hammer productions. I also have a copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula by Coppola which is not without it's problems but is a visual feast. Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder and the female vampires are great in that film. Anthony Hopkins, who is a good actor, didn't really do it for me in that film and Keanu Reeves performance was I felt awkwardly portrayed. I like him in the Matrix and I still have to watch Point Break and I've seen parts of Speed so I think he's a capable actor. He just didn't do it in that film of Dracula.

    • @grey1951
      @grey1951  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Brian! Yeah, I watched Coppola's Dracula once and wasn't that crazy about it. But I plan to watch it again sometime and maybe I'll feel differently. The Christopher Lee Dracula films were all made by Hammer. Most of them are terrific, except for maybe the last one.

    My pleasure, Mike. I would say The King of Comedy is my second favorite Scorsese movie. Westworld was one of my favorite movies as a teen - mind blowing to think it predicted computer viruses PLUS AI designing itself (throwaway lines if you aren't paying attention, but it is there!). Several times I have been tempted to watch Room 237, but it is so convoluted with the ideas, I just can't. Zodiac as a talk fest - spot on - its ok but not great. I'm waiting for a weekend when the wife is gone to watch Oppenheimer - she has little patience for slow movies, and I suspect it would drive her crazy. We tried with Poor Things, but I particularly don't like that director, and we shut it off after 30 minutes.

    • @grey1951
      @grey1951  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Kris! Good luck watching Oppenheimer. I haven't gotten into it yet. And tonight, my Blu-ray player gave up the ghost, so I guess I'll be going shopping tomorrow. Poor Things doesn't really interest me, so I will skip over it. I don't know how much of Room 237 I'll be able to take before my brain shuts down, but I'll give it a chance. As for The King of Comedy, I'm already looking forward to watching it again. My favorite Scorsese flick is After Hours, followed by New York, New York.

    I feel the same about Pulp Fiction. I'm not a Tarantino fan. IMO the guy is extremely overrated. That being said I think Jackie Brown is his best film, because the story is by Elmore Leonard. Unpopular opinion...I know.

    • @grey1951
      @grey1951  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, it is an unpopular opinion, but it's one that I share. I've only seen four Tarantino films: Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The last one is the best, and the only one I will want to watch again. So many people rave on about Pulp Fiction. I just listen politely.

    Zodiac is my favorite David Fincher film and I have watched it multiple times, the mystery of how Zoidac was never caught but the investigators seemed so very close and the shots of California are amazing, the lake murder is terrifying. Let us know what you think of Oppenheimer, I'll just say this, Nolan needs to stop with the musical tension and background noise to where you have to put on the subtitles to understand what the actors are saying, it's getting old.

    • @grey1951
      @grey1951  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I have ghost story on Blu-ray. I wanted to see it for years and I believe two years ago. I finally pulled the trigger and picked it up. I watched it during the Halloween season, and the cast blew me away but as far as stories is concerned, just mediocre.

      @grey1951  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I really enjoyed it, and was happy that it wasn't very violent. I don't think it's any kind of horror classic, but it was done pretty well. I love Alice Krige. And of course, all the legendary actors.

    I have a copy of Room 237 as well. My friend thought it was a bit out there but the theories are interesting to say the least. How dare you insult Jerry Lewis, Mike! Just joking around there! haha!!! lol!!! I didn't know they made movies involving televisions in the 30s! I love Led Zeppelin too! They're one of my favorite bands! Was the documentary showing you things like how they created the sounds in the songs, what kind of guitars they used, guitar pedals, how they mixed the album, things like that? I have two sets of DVDs involving the technical aspects of how they created the songs in the White album, Abbey Road, Revolver, Sgt Pepper and Rubber Soul. I love hearing how they create those albums. If it's anything like that, I'd be interested in taking it off of your hands if that could work out. Whatever you think.

    • @grey1951
      @grey1951  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Brian, I'll be happy to send this Led Zeppelin DVD off to you. Since I didn't watch the entire movie, I can't say how technical it gets about how the music was made. It could mainly be about how the tour was organized and how the album was put together. Still, it may interest you more than it did me.

    I can't agree with you on Zodiac. Not David Fincher's greatest film which is Fight Club, one of my favorite films of all time and his other films are great too: Seven, The Garme, Panic Room, Gone Girl, Mank The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo which I thought was better than the original, and most of the time, I like the foreign original films better, and even Alien 3, his first feature, which he sort of disowns because he didn't have a lot of control of it. I did not like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button because he was trying to make a light hearted film and I think David Fincher's strengrth lies in films that are embedded with dark subject matter and themes. Yeah, I'm not wild about Pulp Fiction either Mike. I either love or hate Tarantino's films and I think he's a bit of a jerk, who I think has let the success get to his head. Godard and David Lynch are usually that way to me too. Either love or hate their movies. Usually no middle ground except Blue Velvet. I like the Dennis Hopper, Isabella Rossellini parts and I hate the Laura Dern parts which is sort of maybe cringe worthy? I'm not sure. Pulp Fiction is one of those movies that I recognize is a milestone in movie history but I'm not a fan of like the 1933 King Kong. I like the Peter Jackson one better. Or Dinner With Andre. OK, you can throw your stones now! I'll sit in the corner for talking bad about Pulp Fiction! haha!!! lol!!! just kidding!!! Great video and pickups Mike!
