    this was the very last game that i played with my brother, he passed away about 2 months after this game came out. literally one of my most favorite games not only because of how amazing it is but because it is now a placeholder in time for me that i can always go back and revisit and think of my brother. just watching this video made me so happy. much love to you HCG

      Im so sorry about the loss of your brother. I fortunately still have mine, but for me, one of my favorite memories was being sick for almost a week with a stomach bug when I was in 8th grade and heart gold and soul silver came out not long before it. So after the violent vomiting was done, we just hung out playing heart gold and soul silver next to each other while we took turns having diarrhea lol. Its definitely one of my favorite memories we have together

    Interestingly enough, after all these years, I've finally popped the original gold Legend of Zelda cart into my console of choice, the Retron 5. And, I must say, the first few hours had me doing the AVGN thing with constant swearing at anything that moved...and after a hundred-plus deaths that abused the state save to no end, I have finally begun to find some fun with the game. Now, I will never know whom owned this cart before me. But, I do admire the two extremely mastered saves that this 30 year old cart still retains. After all, the life of those save batteries is simply insane.

    • @jupreindeer
      @jupreindeer 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh...and interestingly enough...the stiff controls of this original classic that frustrate me so seem to compliment the sliding thumb pad of the Retron 5 particularly well. I had an NES Advantage all ready to go and found the thumb stick to be superior. which is something I would not opt to use for an action game, say Contra.

    I too have had Link between worlds since launch day, but I was too into Bravely Default to play it. I have loved most Zelda games, and I can not wait to play this one ... but I know I will put it off again due to Fantasy Life this Friday and the new Pokémon remakes. Too many good games! Great review, thank you.

This game is truly incredible. What a fun game. This game alone I feel will get me into zelda games I think. Such a great game. On a side note bravely default and second are incredible games. "By the time we do it it´s retro..." LOL! Awesome comment. Just take your time. There is no rush. I play a lot of older games. I finished Monster World 4 and Phantasy Star 1 this summer and enjoyed them a lot! Thanks for the tip! I really think people rush things nowadays. It´s all about the new fix, better graphics etc. I just like to enjoy those retro moments. I recently Downloaded a couple of PS1-games that a look forward to playing...

    Great vid guys! A link between worlds will be a comfortable fit in the Zelda franchise. It has already secured a place in my heart forever and will always remind me of that certain time in my life when I beat it. Super amazing game, they knocked it out of the park on this one. Anyone who hasn't had a chance to try it yet, enjoy. Def in for a treat with this one.

  • @sabata2
    @sabata2 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Link Between Worlds took me 12 hours to beat, and I marathoned it to 100% (on easy mode, there is a Hero Mode unlocked after you beat it once) over Christmas Break. And for god's sakes PLAY WITH THE 3D *ON*!!!!!
    I CANNOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH!!! The combination with the 3D and the Painting mechanic actually *tricked me into turning my 3DS to try and see what was on walls*. Yes, I was SO ENGROSSED by the 3D that I felt like I was looking into a box and could see the sides of the walls better if I just tilted my head.
    I don't recommend many (if any) other 3DS games with the 3d, BUT THIS MUST BE PLAYED WITH THE 3D!!!

    • @KnuxKitsune
      @KnuxKitsune 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wear glasses, so I think that makes it harder to get the 3D effect. I've tried playing with the 3D on, and it just hurts my eyes.

    • @OmegaWarrior
      @OmegaWarrior 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad the 3D works for you, but it doesn't work for me. Maybe it will on the "New 3DS" but on both my regular 3DS and my 3DS XL, it's a no-go; even when I manage to get it in just the right spot and keep it there, I get headaches after ~20 minutes.

    • @sabata2
      @sabata2 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      OmegaWarrior
      If if gives you a headache when you're using it properly, then you probably won't see any large benefit of the NEW 3DS. If you get headaches processing 3D, then you're gonna get headaches processing 3D.
      Me, I'm wondering how the NEW 3DS will handle a game like LBW... will it shift the 3D camera position so I *can* look on the walls? Or will it just stop those awkward "oop, shifted it 2 degrees counterclockwise, there went the 3D" situations?

    • @saltyseedog
      @saltyseedog 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah 3d is better for some games than others. I played zelda at least half the time with 3d on. But animal crossing with 3d hurts my eyes for some reason.

    Love the game! Rob sums it quite well!

  • @ndep93
    @ndep93 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rob's biggest knock on the game, the renting of the items, is imo the best part about the game. You're not limited to a certain dungeon order and the dungeons themselves not adherent to the item held within them. You have the freedom to tackle them in whatever order you like, and makes how you deal with the dungeons and their bosses ambiguous - it's up to you how you go about it. That's my favorite aspect of A Link Between Worlds and makes it arguably my favorite game in the series!

    A near perfect game! I just finished it a week ,or, so ago and man... what a blast from the past (a link to the past, that is) everything in this game culminates into a nostalgia overload! But it too is great to newcomer's alike and may even encourage some to go retro and visit old territory!

  • @michaelmorgan6261
    @michaelmorgan6261 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was never a huge Zelda fan, until I played this game and loved it so much. I actually like the renting feature because if I explored the overworld and randomly stumbled across a dungeon, I was prepared since I already had every item.

  • @Neffets
    @Neffets 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with every word Rob said about the game! I must say, I did find the game super easy. I died once at a boss I couldn't figure out the pattern to. I only missed one and a half heart container from 100% completion. Having said that, this is the Zelda game I've been waiting for since Minish Cap.

  • @RamRamStyles
    @RamRamStyles 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There's still new things to find in the dungeons, even though it's not necessarily an item used to kill the boss. This makes it much more of a surprise because you don't know what to expect to get.

    You have to have it setup in a way were you can get any item at any time in order to have the open design of doing any dungeon at anytime, just like how in BOTW we get all our abilities right away so each devine beast is doable. Great video though!

    Was planning on buying a 3Ds XL to play this game in particular because I'm somewhat of a Zelda fan, but the 3-D of the current 3Ds didn't make me such a big fan to buy it. • @thequeenundisputed
    @thequeenundisputed 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I understand Rob's complain with the item salesman, but I also understand why it was implemented. A big problem people had with the ability to go to any dungeon in any order in the original Zelda is that sometimes it felt more like an illusion of choice because for certain dungeons you need certain items to get through, so while you may be able to find Y dungeon, you may not be able to actually playthrough it until you beat X dungeon. Also, a lot of people complained that Zelda dungeons were too formulaic in that you go to a dungeon, you find an item and then you use that item to get through the dungeon. This is what you specifically said you liked, but some people would like the mystery of figuring out what item to use in which dungeon as well as exploring and finding out ways to beat the dungeon in unconventional ways. Using the item salesman solves both of these problems, and I think it's a pretty neat solution. It comes with some cons, but I actually the pros outweigh those cons.

  • @latoyathunderstar9585
    @latoyathunderstar9585 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree as a zelinker. This is quite an awesome game. I like when saving (sometimes) it reminds you to take a break from playing. I loved the free style of picking the dungeon in any order. The only thing is that caused a chill is the 'floor hands'. Those big hands always freak me out. So, I'd always wait and evade them, then slash away at that hand. The zelinker moments were doubled. Kyaa.

    Agreed, Bravely Default has old school final fantasy feel to it, also the konami code works for this game for those who hate the repeat chapters to get the bonus ending. Chapter 6/7 only take 5-10min each cause even on hard you are lvl 70+ at end of ch5

    Loved "A Link Between Worlds", best Zelda game in a looooong time. I understand some people might not like the renting items system but i'm so glad they are taking risks with this franchise in particular, the fact you can take the dungeons in ther order you want (kinda like the original) and don't really know what item to use on bosses instead of the obvious one you just got in that same dungeon is pretty cool and something they are preparing to do on the next one for Wii U in a 3D Zelda for the first time.

    I'm basically 100% in agreement with Rob on this one. The greatest compliment I can give the game is that I bought a 3DS in order to play it, and I feel that the purchase was worthwhile. This is my favorite Zelda game in many years, and in some ways, I had more fun playing it than Ocarina of Time. It deserves to be ranked with the classics. I liked it so much that I even put a giant ALBW poster on my wall, just as a reminder that Nintendo has still got it where it counts.

    I usually get bored and give up during some point of a zelda game so the fact that i beat this game is saying something so i know this game did something right and that something is the non linear design the purchasing of key items the wall mechanic it is all used expertly i really cant tell you how much i enjoy this game

You didnt seem too drawn into the game from this video, which surprised me - so since this video was posted 2014 and its 2017 I will assume you beat it already [?] I would like to know your thoughts. Played a lot of Zelda this year and last. Just finished Twilight Princess (2nd time), finished Skyward Sword in march, and downloaded Ocarina of Time for the VC on my Wii. Still have my pristine copy of Link to the past that I still have the receipt for in the box. I bought that one in 1993 after playing the shit out of my friend's copy. I don't understand why so many people complain about not being able to find items in the dungeons.
    There are still items hidden in the dungeons and the fact that you don't need those items to complete the game means that they can be hidden extremely well. I didn't even realize there were items hidden in the dungeons until I found one by accident halfway through the game and then I backtracked to older dungeons to see if I missed anything. It felt so much more rewarding than finding the dungeon item in any other Zelda game simply because it was something you had to work for. And most of the dungeons are still designed around a certain item that you can rent, the desert dungeon for example

    I think it's funny that Rob loved being able to do the dungeons in any order but hated renting the items, when the item renting is really only there to allow you to do the dungeons in any order.

    I have to say yes ive played all the Loz games and this game did shock me when i played it. I was disappointed with spirt tracks and phantom hourglass, so i was fearing that this handheld would be just like the past ds games and wouldnt be as good as the old handhelds but i thought it was amazing its in my top 5 favorite zelda games being:
    Majora's mask
    Wind Waker
    Minish Cap
    A Link Between Worlds
    And
    Oracle of Ages&Seasons

    Still my favourite Zelda handheld. Alongside Minish Cap. Also, Hilda is just adorable.

    So glad I held back buying a 3DS XL for this, This way I won't be bothered by the faulty 3D while holding the ds.

    ALBW is an incredible game, not my favourite (WW) but this is a better game overall. Just amazingly enjoyable from beginning to end.

    A link between world is my favorite zelda for now on.
    I started with a link to the past I almost finished and now I'm stil busy now.
    Ocarina of Time is one of my favorites of all time the best zelda I ever played along with majora's mask.
    The wind waker twilight princess were good.
    And skyward sword is great.
    I can't wait for a new zelda they gonna make a open world zelda.
    I'm definitely looking forward in the next E3 2015.

    I finally finished this game last year. I like the style but I prefer the old style of A Link To The Past because of the 90s Anime Style of the Character Designs. I might be a little biased being I grew up in 1987 so I grew up mostly in the 90s so obviously I would prefer that style.

    @Happyconsolegamer - Nintendo listened to Rob with their upcoming “Link’s Awakening” release. Hopefully it’s as good (or better) than ALBW

    Yeah I would LOVE for them to do a Zelda 1 sequel with 3d style. This was my favorite game to play in the last 20 years. As much as I loved fallout 4, I'd play Zelda games until I die if they keep making them like this.

    Yea, but you can permanently buy them, which is worth it. Also, there is some items you find in dungeons, like the tunics, but you mostly find ore to upgrade your master sword...

    I am the same exact way! As much as i 'd love to devote my time to a (long) game, i find it really hard to. I work and am a student, so it's really hard to actually be at home and game for hours on end for a game that's 40+ hours. All while wanting to play other games that aren't as long and just as good!
    I recently purchased Twilight Princess for the Wii, but im not too certain if it would be worth the 40+ hour gameplay! And as mentioned before, i have a lot of other games that i'd like to play that isn't as long. Anyway... #HappyGaming

    I'm still in the process of beating this game but I'm trying to complete the 999 second dodge the cukoo quest, its incredibly hard, but with enough persistence I think I can beat it. As good as the game is, I still prefer a link to the past but a link between worlds is still a stellar game in its own right.

    I bought the game at launch, but I barely started it. I want to get to the point that I can get my Pokemon back. My roommate wanted to try the game, my copy of Pokemon X, which is progress for a genwunner. So, I transferred my Pokemon to my friend, and let my roommate play, and when he got his own 3DS and Pokemon Y, I started a new game with the intent to get all the badges and have my friend trade my Pokemon back to me. But I'm with Johnny here...I've barely had time to do that. But once I get that resolved, I'll go back to ALBW. I mean, it was good enough to get GameSpot Game of the Year 2013, and it's rare, very rare to see a handheld game get that award.
