  • Finally got round to finishing the adjustments to my filter bay with the intro of J Matting to the final bay. Found an EASY WAY of cutting up the matting as well that saved loads of time. 😉👍
    I show how I built my own air system blower to go under the jap matting that saves me some money instead of buying the usual air suppliers from the shops.😮😉👍 And it works a treat.

    How very dare you look at my balls🤣😂🤣. Thank you for the mention, much appreciated 👍😊. Really interesting video and absolutely agree with what you’ve done in the final bay, Jap matting rules👍😊. Nice fish on display at your dealers, I always head for the big fish first , then I see the prices and work my way back down the smaller fish😊. Look forward to seeing what difference you think the changes have made🤞👍. Stay safe👍🈲🐟😊.

      @@KoiPondLifestyle Absolutely no problem Andy, as you said we’ve met plus after watching all your vids for so long, think we share the same sense of humour👍. Good to have a bit of banter, life’s too short , just wish a few others would lighten up a bit and maybe there wouldn’t be this unnecessary negativity on some of the sites🤔. Anyway, keep the videos coming 👍🈲🐟😊

    Over to Johns Koi Pond today he gave me 2 koi a couple of years ago.
    I was so surprised how big his fish are I said what are you feeding them mine are nowhere near that size.
    Cheap Wheat Cereal which he pours Tuna brine over from a can then drops them in the pond to float the fish nibble them apart you could say they are a cheap copy of Weetabix.

    Yes it is an easy way of doing it. I used a kitchen knife heated up, melts straight through it and no bits.
    However you might have to explain as to why the kitchen knife looks different 🤣. Maybe it was something to do with the dishwasher 🤔 it's a mystery.....

    Another great video Andy. Helps with the frustration. My pond is 2 months old. Ammonia is still high. No2 coming up. Lost 1 fish to cottonwool disease and another today to dropsy. Doing water changes and adding more balls to try and keep up with it. Keep koi they say. It's relaxing, they say. Yeah, right

    On your “pond visit” you pointed out that he had “Jap Matting” in most of his filter bays.
    Did you notice, pretty much all of it was installed in “cartridge” form with gaps!
    That is the most effective form of installation as Jap Matting is not a mechanical media and the gaps promote bacteria development and prevent blockage.

    Hi Andy love the shop visit section. Something that cought my eye was when you were looking at the large fish in the indoor tank, there was a large pale blue koi with a line of black scales down its back. I have one of these & this is the first time I have seen another. Do you know what type of koi this is? I have searched various website but never been able to identify it

  • @tonyfuller3010

    Hi Andy, I think those filters originally came with flow core bio media which would block pipes. So that's probably why you've got the outlet protector cages. But you must leave a decent clear gap between the outlet and the jap matt because it will slow the flow and could cause it to overflow if it's pushed right upto the outlet. I put some in front of the outlets on my shower to stop the media blocking them. How wrong was I. I had to whip it out quick.

    • @KoiPondLifestyle
      @KoiPondLifestyle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that. Glad I placed the jap matting not near the outlet then.. cheers 👍 😉

    I am trying to connect my multibay to my bottom drain but no coupling on the inlet can I use a heat gun to remove the small bit of pipe that is in the inlet so I can glue a new one in also can I solvent weld it in? or will I damage it. See attached video. Thanks in advance.

  • @goplanit

    When I've used Jap mat in the past I used tailors scissors that also does a good cutting job. Obviously the wife went mental because I used her very expensive fabric scissors and made them blunt.

    Well done Andy, I like that, looks like I’ll be getting rid of my sponges.
    Was thinking of changing my brushes for a static bed of K1 as I’m pump fed so any solids get mashed up by the pump first. What do you think 🤔

    • @KoiPondLifestyle
      @KoiPondLifestyle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hiya, thanks for that. Ideally you want to keep your solids in one piece so they stay in one place. If you mash them up they'll be all through your filters. 😉👍

    If your trickle-in-trickle-out is going through a declorinator and then into the final bay before being pumped to the pond, then its fine. Also, back in the day another favourite and cheap filter media was plastic hair rollers, probably only used by hobbyists who could run faster than the Mrs.

    It seems everyone is starting pond channels flooding the market which will last is the question.
    My son is down stoke again later in the year looking for an old canal that is or was lost.
    He’s not taking the companies Audi Q7 does not like it on motorways said he will use the Volvo V60 I’ve told him to look out for things for me said he is starting in a place I think it’s called Frognhall.

      Hiya, Yeah loads trying the TH-cam channels at the mo. I think they think they are going to make a fortune from them.. Nope you don't... 😁😁😞👍. You son is going to Froghall which is what is known as the 'Cut End' of the Caldon Canal. The lost canal is the section that used to go to Uttoxeter known as the Uttoxeter section which has been filled in for years. JCB built its roccester factory over a large section of it. There are still the old Bridges in place, and you can hear the Alton Towers rides from there if the winds in the right direction...😮😉👍
