- I hadn’t made a compilation video so decided to make one for landing! I’ve come so far but landing is something I’ll always be working on. It is a challenge because you never know what air will be doing on the ground level until you are landing. That thrill is what makes hang gliding so exciting!

Nice work! Also Alphas need a pretty good shove to full flare. Once you're at your own glider you'll feel that it's much easier.

You definitely have the understanding and the skills but that critical flare timing is your weakest point (I was the same) Nice work!
Agreed on the timing of my flare. I feel like im still relying on luck a little. I think flaring will always be work-on-progress piece for me.

I share my progress for my own good(too proud to not share!) and a hope to inspire people who might be interested in flying. So so happy and excited to hear that you are thinking about hang gliding! My personal opinion, the three top most important things other than the flying & glider conditions are 1. having a good instructor, 2. your learning skills, 3. great patience, to do this safely. Hope the sky becomes your playground soon😉

Hi Nano, I've not watched all your videos but I think you are doing really well, but probably expecting to much of yourself? Baby steps is exactly right, forget zipping the harness (Practice this in your garage or a tree, you will only really what to start doing this once established in a thermal or hill flying from a high site), or fiddling with instruments, just concentrate on each flight you do and have a plan before each flight but remember, things can change, like the weather, a truck just parked right across your landing field!. So plans have to change when required to suit the ever changing situation you find yourself in.
A typical plan would start from looking at the weather for the day, then at the field looking at wind direction, any obstacles in your chosen landing area, a good approach direction. Probably the worse thing we can do as pilots is get the wind direction wrong on landing, we have all done it! But with big wheels and a nice grass runway it isn't that bad, small wheels and a ploughed field, something is possible going to break :(. When out landing after a cross country flight all of my attention is focused on wind direction, be it checking instruments (ground speed), looking for smoke, flags, birds or ripples at the end of a lake. All just to confirm to me I'm right, then I choose my landing field to suit.
The only time we can hurt ourselves is when we are near the floor, good take off's and landings are key to your progression, once mastered you will then be concentrating more on the middle bit and hopefully then you will be climbing out :).
A few observations,
I think you are a little high on the bar, adjust your angle of dangle a little bit. I'm pretty sure the Libero doesn't have the slider mechanism, I believe it is a lighter version of a flex.
Your a small person on a very large glider, when you get your own wing suited to your weight, this should help with manoeuvring the glider, on the floor and in the air.
On that glider your flare authority is small, if you watch your videos you can see that from trim to your full flare is probably only 12 inches if that. Hands as high as you can on the uprights and pretend your going to throw the glider behind you. It probably glider to harness setup limiting this, as you do have a really nice upright position on your final approach.
Your doing really well, Keep at it, it only gets better :)
Also join your local club, if you haven't already. They will help you with equipment and progressing your training once you have passed and moved on from instruction. All clubs should have Club coaches to help you and as you have found out the hang gliding community are a helpful bunch.
Thank you so much for your comment. I agree, Steve has told me the same things. Since you haven’t watched all my video you don’t know this, but my weakness has been making a good/confident landing approach. I’ve practiced that a lot and every flight will be a practice for the rest of my flying career. Libero does have a cleat line for adjusting my prone position angle. Steve has asked me multiple times if I want it lower but I feel comfortable flying a little upright so I’m keeping it there until I feel like I want a change. I really can’t wait to fly a next level glider! Want to feel the difference! Thank you so much for your thorough and thoughtful comment & feedback. Just like you said, the unknown that could happen during a flight and we have to be ready for it, practice to have plans, is what makes each flight experience so special. Hang gliding has taught me more than about the sport itself but also really about myself. It’s been a humbling experience for me. Safety is the most important thing so I’ll take my time, really focus and not let my “want” dictates my decision making. Happy new year🥳
