My father worked at the NV test site 1951-54. He first got small bowel cancer and was treated, then he got stomach cancer 10 years later and died. The AEC lied to everyone onsite and in the community. Dust from the bombs filled out house in LV the morning after a bomb test. but the AEC didn't consider Las Vegas to be downwind of the site. My mother washed my father's clothes and both of her arms were covered in a red rash. My sister died in 1963 and they listed it as encephalitis but put a question mark after the diagnosis. The same companies AECOM have now been changed to AMENTUM an "environmental energy" company that does radiation/toxic clean up. Strange isn't it that they make the disaster and now they get paid to clean up the disaster. This is how the govt works.

so about "paying people to stop suing them" bit, the script made considerable effort to emphasize the whole evil capitalism theme there, but I have to say, the reason people sue in the first place is to be compensated for the unrightful damages done to them. That's just how American legal system works

@16:10 The Sedan Crater is the largest man-made crater in the continental United States, but not the largest man-made crater overall. I would say that title could go to Castle Bravo, whose crater is 6,500 feet (2,000 m) in diameter and 250 feet (76 m) in depth.

Oppenheimer is not the father of the atomic bomb. He was a high level manager in the project. The US Government as a whole decided to develop a nuclear device and also thousand of scientist worldwide were already working on the subject, so it's impossible to point a finger who's really "the father of the atomic bomb".

I can't help but wonder about the ecological damage caused by weapon testing, versus the damage caused by nuclear power electricity generation. I suspect nuclear electricity generation's effects is infinitesimal in comparison as far as damage and safety. In other words, nuclear power is the best, safest, least damaging way to produce electricity on a massive scale. There is a waste issue, but it is starkly less than weapon testing's legacy.

That is not Prinz Eugen. The German cruiser survived both blasts, though severely irradiated by Baker. It was eventually towed to Kwajalein where it sank, and where its wreck remains today. The "long black vertical 'shadow'" to which you refer is the ex-USS Arkansas...

Paul Harvey debunked the relation of those actors getting cancer from radiation fallout. All of these people also smoked cigarettes daily. This doesn't discount the possible effects radiation fallout, but the tobacco is more likely the reason. (Consider the cigarettes have their own radioactive byproducts.)

There is a bar in Las Vegas called the atomic Café which is on Fremont Street. When I lived there in Las Vegas, it was a rundown bar in a crackhead neighborhood. And no I did not see Hunter Biden anywhere. Stories had it the people would come to this bar so it’s the climb up on the roof to watch the nuclear explosions. Fremont Street has been cleaned up into a very nice tourist area all the way from the plaza hotel out to Eastern Avenue, and the revamped atomic café is open for business. In other interesting news, there is a nuclear test museum East of the north part of the Strip

The United States got the consent of the locals, but they promised the locals they would be able to return after the tests were over. I was told my grandfather was the sole survivor of one of the nuclear test sites in Nevada that had live US soldiers involved. He died of cancer much later in life but had medical issues for the entire time I knew him, always had a neck brace on, and many more issues I believe associated with the testing fallout. He died quite a while ago and I never asked Dad much about him since he wasn't involved much in any of our lives, especially Dad's so I have seen him only a handful of times before he died. Funny thing, if grandma didn't keep his records even after divorce, the military would have been successful in denying him attendance as well as responsibility for medical care that they tried so hard to do.
