  • 2021 TOYOTA HILUX Workmate Review,
    The Toyota Hilux has been around for years and years and it continues to dominate the work sites and each update as very minor as it is still puts it ahead of the rest. Or does it?
    The Hilux Workmate we have here is basic and sturdy. On the outside the look hasn't really changed much over the years as Toyota says if it works keep going with it. Inside you find cloth trim seats and basic safety features like radar cruise and lane departure warning and also speed sign recognition. It also have Apple car play and android auto. Under the Bonnet we have a 2,7 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine which produces 122kw's of power and 245nm's of torque and thats mated to a 5 speed manual or an optional 6 speed automatic. Driving the Hilux around town unladen is very very bumpy. Comfortable seating and good vision mean it can do all the duties you need. It could benifit from a reverse camera as the tray is quite big so fully loaded will be a challenge to see behind you.

    For my purposes it's great. The low profile makes it easy on the back and knees to load and unload. A super reliable petrol engine is well suited to stop-start work site stuff with a good load. No injector and particulate filter diesel issues that my last ute suffered from. Happy to change oil and service every six months knowing it will last for years.

    Great honest video, would a canvas canopy help make the ride more confortable when the tray isnt loaded, I am wanting to get one but there would be times when not much weight would be in the tray, hence the question.

      Hi kayjenkins731,
      Thanks for watching I do appreciate it and it helps the channel.
      A canvas canopy would weigh around 70kg's roughly so yes it would add weight to the back end and probably give you a slightly better ride. If you can find a demo one with a canvas canopy at a dealer somewhere, take it for a ride and see how it rides compared to one without a canopy.

      I was informed by the dealer that it does have it but I didn't try it out. Do you have the right cord or made sure your phone is updated. Not all of the headunits are wireless. You can check with your local dealer or whether they updated the stereo just after you bought yours.

      Hi Isxxc. PNG,
      Thanks for watching and yes they are bumpy a lot.

      You could get a removable canopy made up. I actually got a short one made with front and back sliding windows and and rear door so that I can still fit long loads if I leave the rear door open. I intend to insulate it as well as fit a second roof on it and fit vents on the top so that it will be cool enough for my dog and/or food or other products that I need to keep cool. It has about the same space as the extra cab section and is light enough to slide of using a wood plank. I also have another one which sits behind taking up the rest of the tray but this one is heavy but it can be removed with wind up jacks even with all heavy gear inside. This large one also has sliding windows front and back as well as half doors front and back so that I can remove the small box, slide the large one forward and have front and rear top half doors open so the the dog doesn’t get too hot and I still have good rear visibility. The tie down holes on the tray can be utilised to bolt these canopies down as well.

    • @agautomotive
      @agautomotive  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dan,
      Thanks for watching I do appreciate
      Diesels will use less fuel but more expensive and petrol is a lot cheaper and a mate of mine has a petrol ute with a half canopy that weighs around 80-90kgs and also carries a water tank and carries about 400kgs in the back and he gets around 13-15 litres/100km. But it also depends on how you drive it as well.

    I don't know much about cars but am looking at buying a new Ute like this one or a Triton. I have always thought Toyota was a better and more expensive car then Mitsubishi but from what I am seeing online for the 2wd workmates range the Triton is about 5k more then the Toyota . Is it because its a better car for this range ?? Which would you buy

    • @agautomotive
      @agautomotive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Paula,
      Thanks for watching i do appreciate it a lot.
      I will tell you my thoughts on both of these and i am not being bias towards either of them
      The Hilux and Triton are great on and offroad vehicles
      Hilux is very bumpy around town compared to the Triton but put a load in the Hilux and it settles down a bit. Triton is very comfortable when both empty and full.
      Hilux Rogue is softer around town empty but costs about 15k more than the GSR Triton
      Triton is better value for money compared to the Hilux
      Hilux is a bit old inside compared to the Triton but I guess Toyota use what works.
      Triton has more saftey features than Hilux.
      Triton has less power than hilux but it weighs less
      Hilux can tow 3500kg compared to the Triton 3100kg
      There is a brand new triton coming out next year (2024) and a new hilux (2025)
      So i would say go and take both for a good long test drive and see which one you prefer over the other.
      If i was buying one of these i would want the Hilux Rogue for comfort but it is too expensive so i do prefer the more comfortable and stylish Triton so i would probably go the Triton as i dont have to tow or carry anything and it has good style and saftey tech.

    • @paula-yr7pp
      @paula-yr7pp ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@agautomotive thanks mate I will take the both for a ride. The one I really want is the rogue but that’s way over my price range.. kinda leading towards 4x2 triton but will book some test drives this week.. Thanks mate

    • @agautomotive
      @agautomotive  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paula,
      Sounds good I like the Rogue but for the Money i think the Triton will work and yes if your not going off road or you dont need to tow or carry a lot then a 4x2 Triton would work well. I prefer the GSR Version myself

    • @agautomotive
      @agautomotive  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Levi,
      Thanks for watching I do appreciate. So the hilux is a good ute but it doesn't come with many options or tech, whereas the triton comes with more tech. I think the triton rides a little bit nicer but toyota is the reliability king and this model has been out for a while now and I think it is getting a little dated and I know the new triton is due out shortly. My advice is to go and test both of them back to back and see which one you think is right for you. I did enjoy reviewing them both and I am keen to see what the new triton is like and also when toyota does release the new model as well and how it will go. I hope this helps
