Great video, love my Sparkling Gouramis they really are a pretty fish when under good lighting. They also make a clicking sound which is kind of cool and the way they move through plants like a tiger stalking it’s prey is like no other! 👍
I couldn't agree more with the sparkling gourami, they're my favorite fish right now and they have so much personality for a fish that isn't even 2 inches. I highly recommend them if you need a fish to keep in a nano tank, I have a pair in my 5.5 gallon planted tank and they're so fun to watch. Great video.
Black neons are one of my favourites. I bought six of them three years ago and I still have 5. I think they are quite pretty. They are very hardy, very visible and good eaters. I really like the sparkling gourami, and would have bought some except that I have read that they are jumpers and need a tight-fitting lid. My aquaria don't have that. As for odessa barbs, I have read that they can be nippers, and that has kept me from buying them.
I completely agree with you about the sparkling gouramis, they are tiny gems that get overlooked. I used to keep a group in my Apistogramma tank (after the kuhlis vanished!) where they kept to the upper layer amidst loads of floating leaves, they even spawned but the fry never survived. Had to give them away when I moved abroad. Would love to keep them again.
Excellent choice of fish... Sparkling Gouramis are indeed incredibly pretty in the right environment. Black Neons are subtle - but amazing in a heavily planted tank with a mid-brown coloured substrate. I had mine with a darker, almost black, substrate - and so you lost part of the color of the fish... changing to a mid-to-darker brown substrate at the front truly highlighted the colours of the fish. My preferred choice on the barb... the Snakeskin Barb! Better in every way.
I don't think black neon tetra and 5 banded barbs are less popular, here (in Hungary) almost every pet shops we can find them. Additionally, the latter is one of my favourite aquarium fish. :-)
Interesting list, although I actually currently own 2 of the fish you listed. I have a small group of 4 Black Neon Tetras in a 29gal community tank. They are joined by a single lunar flare betta, a number of other tetras (neon, glowlight, ember), 3 pygmy cory cats and I recently added 4 guppies. The black neons tend to swim near the middle of the tank and are usually the highest fish other than the betta who hangs out in the floating plants at the water's surface. The other group is 3 Kuhli Loaches in my girlfriends 10gal tank. That one is still cycling, but once we solve the ammonia/nitrite cycle she'll likely add a few mollys or platys to the tank to add color.
Black neons are one of the first fish I bought for my 29 gallon community tank. I bought 6 originally and still have 5. They are almost always visible, and I think they are quite attractive. Strange how they vary in their growth rates. Three got quite large and the other three stayed small, yet they all seem to be voracious eaters.
You know what, it's really great to hear someone else has found this!! I have 12 altogether and the shoal has three small ones that just... never got as large as the rest. I thought it was just me and may be they didn't get the same amount of food as the others. Perhaps it's a quirk of the species.
⭐️ Great list!! I feel the same way, the list could be much larger as there are so many underrated fish, but 5 is a very good number as well! I enjoyed this very much! Have a wonderful weekend!
I have 4 sparkling Gouramis, they are so interactive! They always come up to me when I walk past and aren't scared of anything, every time I do a water-change they are all standing around the siphon like little soldiers. I'm now considering getting a couple black neon tetras to go with my cardinals, thanks for the video
Hi. I was looking to add 5 black neons and 6 cpd’s to my tank. But 5 neons for a 125 l tank seems a small bunch. I already have 12 ember tetra, 7 rummy nose, 2 honey gourami, 2 panda and 6 pygmy corry, 5 oto’s, a bristle nose pleco and a few amano’s + 2 ballon molly that I inhereted. Feels like the tank is not overstocked tbh therefore looking to add to the community. Would 5 blacks and 6 cpd’s work in your opinion? Tank is well planted and growing. Thx.
Hello! Odessa are an active species that's is constantly on the move, looking for something to eat. I'd say a tank with a minimum 100cm in length would be fine for a group of 5/6.
i actually like the black neons over the neon tetras... maybe its a preference, their color and behaviour i find it so charming
I love black neon tetras.
😂 these are all fish i have in my tanks. All five are amazing fish and unbelievably underrated in my opinion.
Great video, love my Sparkling Gouramis they really are a pretty fish when under good lighting. They also make a clicking sound which is kind of cool and the way they move through plants like a tiger stalking it’s prey is like no other! 👍
Wait until you see them mating, it's quite unique!
I love them as well! Seen them mating...just like bettas

Ever since I saw them on TH-cam videos, I wanted to have sparkling gouramis in my community tank. Alas, I cannot find them locally.
Yes they are lovely species. I'm hoping mine will spawn too.
Sparkling gouramis and khuli loaches are my favorites. They have such little personalities and are so cute
Excellent choice of fish...

I work at a pet store, and we sell black neon tetras pretty regularly. But you're right about kuhli loaches. They are TINY.

Black tetras are my favorite tetra. Very subtle but I like that.

Black neons are amongst my favourites
I just bought some black neons and the largest one strikes the top of the water like a bass when he’s chasing flakes!

Yeah, I'm planning on expanding the lists as I get more filming done. For now 5's will have to do :D
Tiny Menagerie you channel is utterly fantastic! I wouldn’t change a thing🙂 thank you so much for the wonderful videos you create💯⭐️
I’m setting up my first tank in decades and first planted tank…getting sparkling gouramis…and neon rasboras.
I have 4 sparkling Gouramis, they are so interactive! They always come up to me when I walk past and aren't scared of anything, every time I do a water-change they are all standing around the siphon like little soldiers.

I love Sparkling Gouramis! One of favourite fish ❤️
Another lovely and informative video. Thank you!
I really want black neons and lemon tetras. I've kept sparkling gouramis.
I wish my stores had these. All I can get is black neons and the black little worms
Very informative, thanks 😊

what do you think would be the min size for a school of odessa barbs? I love them but not sure if I ought to get some in my tanks... hmm..

Do you know if your can keep kribensis with honey gourami
Yes if the tank is big enough. Kribs stick to the bottom and gourami stick to the top.
