Connie Hawkins talked about Wilt in a playground league game in NYC. Hawk had a young baller named "Jumpin'" Tony Jackson that could leap so high, he could pluck coins from the top of the backboard. So early in the game Hawk's coach suggested he block one of Wilt's hook shots so he did. Everyone was stunned, it was goaltending but even the ref didn't call it because no one had seen anything like that before. It infuriated Wilt who promptly came down on the next possession and slam dunked the ball so hard it bounced as high as the backboard. It had been a close game to that point but once Wilt took over, it was done for Hawk's team. They broke Rule #1: Never piss off Wilt Chamberlain.

Wow, thank you for upscaling/colorizing this footage. Just amazing to see Wilt in HD. He was such a genetic freak with a personality to match it. Probably one of the top human specimens of the history of homosapiens.
People underestimated his strength because of how tall he was, which made him look deceptively thin, but if you look closely at his arms, you can tell he was a specimen. Wilt at 50 could dominate in today's NBA.
Wilt would’ve been even better after the 60’s because he would be allowed to use his strength to his advantage. When Wilt was playing, he could never back down a player, do an aggressive drop step, or initiate contact when shooting, which limited what he could do, which is also why his moves are non-contact moves (fallaway, finger roll). If Wilt did a drop step on Embiid Poor Embiid.

When the rules are changed or added because of a player, that's 100% proof of his dominance. Even Michael Jordan didn't have this done. Free throw rule: In 1956, the NCAA banned free throw dunks after reports that Chamberlain could do them. The NBA later adopted the rule that requires free throw shooters to keep both feet behind the line. Lane width: The lane was widened to accommodate Chamberlain's success near the basket. Offensive goaltending: Offensive goaltending rules were instituted. Inbound passes: Inbound passes over the backboard were banned. All because of Wilt Chamberlain, the greatest basketball player ever.

"I was a big fan of him because he came to the gym, he would do a tricep extension - the big guys, the strongest guys would do 120 pounds, let’s say - he would come and do 150, 170 pounds. That’s how strong he was. I remember that he lifted me up with one arm like nothing."
Conan the barbarian came out in '82, Wilt would've been around 45-46 years old at this point.
He used to outbench Arnold in his prime
Wilt with today's knowledge would be unstoppable. Truly unstoppable.

He's not just making them, he is DRAINING THEM with flawless form. The net doesn't shoot back up like that unless you put that fucker dead center through
He was about to call Wilt the Goat then... ME!
When you watch high quality footage like this it makes you understand that Wilt is the greatest individual player ever and it's not close. Mike is obviously the GOAT as far as leading a team and winning championships. But for raw individual dominance it's Wilt all the way. There are also clips of Wilt blocking Kareem's sky hook despite being 10 years older, and clips of him reaching the top of the backboard (about 13 feet in the air). Talent that would be mythical if it wasn't on film.
His athleticism was wild and insane at his height 💯

The true goat. Enough said.
Its Weird as F seeing footage of wilt in the 60s and 70s that looks crystal clear and almost as if it was happening today. Crazy.
Wilt is the ultimate physical specimen
Wilt is the GOAT and nobody wants to admit it. Idc what era you played in. If you score 100 in one game, average 50 pts a season, and average 30 pts a game for your career on top of average 20 rebs a game for your career, you’re the freaking goat
And how much did he win?
I’ll wait…
@@ER1CNOIR Winning is a Team accolade. Being the Best Player is a solitary accolade. Keep waiting. That doesn’t change that he individually is the greatest basketball player to ever live. The GOAT means put him 1v1 anyone else ever and he wins. That’s Wilt Chamberlain. Period.

Wilt was amazing
This is crazy Wilt was a half a century ahead of his time !! He shot half court free throws, had sex with the best woman in every town, and retired from the NBA to become a professional volley ball player.
He retired from NBA to become a multi-millionaire business man and enjoying playing volley ball and acting (with Arnold Schwarzenegger) just for the pleasure.

The idea of Wilt having modern nutrition, training, and medicine should put fear into everyone in the league.
Modern nutrition is worse.
@@ER1CNOIR LOL not the stuff top athletes have access to. Just because people suck down fried chicken and burgers all day doesn't mean its modern. We know way more about the benefits of nutrition now.
@@discostuchannel yeah but he would grow up for the first 20 years of his life eating worse than he did in his time. You’re not born a professional athlete or millionaire (unless you’re real lucky). Lol 😂 I mean, yes, Pros have ACCESS to nutritionists, and can eat whatever they want - that doesn’t mean they they’re going to eat super healthy, though, either. People like Tom Brady and Kobe and stuff.. yes they eat crazy. But MOST players don’t eat like they do. But he WOULD have better access to better training methods, medical treatments, and better coaching with new techniques, he would have better talent around him and more people to have learned from in the past.
But most food today is way worse 🤣
@@ER1CNOIR lol that’s so unbelievably wrong. It’s hilarious. They didn’t know Jack about nutrition in the 50s. It’s why everyone was so damn short.

Yeah the guy shot 51% FT’s and he hit 20/25 from half court? Bull, absolutely not true and not possible. Cherry picking his made outside shots still show what an awful outside shot he had . He was a paint dominator only and there’s nothing wrong with that.

The fact they don’t even talk about him is just ridiculous.. dude would still make impact today.. his physical metric stats are ridiculous
And that's why the ring count for greatness is bullshit. Wilt the stilt was the greatest player.
I think it's not only how many rings, but that's a huge part of it, for me, I look at how a player dominated, his numbers, winning percentage when it matters, then rings, for example I think Dominique Wilkins was better than Isiah Thomas
I don’t think it’s bullshit. To me, it dictates the difference between being the greatest athlete and being the greatest player. Will was the greatest athlete to ever play at his position in the NBA, but his rival, Bill Russell, was the greater player.
@@smoothALOEnobody thinks Bill Russell is the greatest player ever 😂😂😂 but he was a better center than Wilt. The Celtics just had a star studded team of HOFers.
If Wilt was sooooo great and SOOOOO dominant… then why didn’t he win a ton of championships???
@@ER1CNOIR is that a rhetorical question? By the way, if you go back to the NBA at its 50th anniversary Bill Russell was rated the highest of the players in the mix, with Wilt Chamberlain at 2nd. So, to say no one thought either of these players were the greatest is untrue. I’m not saying I agree, but people who saw them play at the time held them in the highest regard. At the very least, in my view, they are both among the 15 greatest by virtue of their legacies and respect for what they did for the game in their day.
I’ve heard all the stories but this footage is something else. Crazy to see just how fast he was and how well he could shoot it.
Wilt was a track star ..he ran the 100 in 10 seconds....Jerry West said it was amazing to watch him fly down the court in a few giant steps.....and Wilt could put a quarter on top of the backboard...he did the high jump and had over a four foot vertical with very long arms ...(great for blocking shots and goal tending)... Looking at him standing next to Shaq and Jordan...he towered over them ..even Arnold in Conan....he was the greatest
He's the GOAT. RoY and MVP the same year, 50ppg, 100pts game etc, really untouchable feats and it was just for fun to him
Wilt was the greatest athlete of all time. His feats are so great that if he lived in ancient times, we would find statues and temples built to the 7'1 god of strength.

the way he was so casually/effortlessly hitting those hook shots from the side...............
That's actually how he got his 100 pt game, . he hit shots all over the court ..he had the hot hand that night and his team feed him the ball 😮
I saw film of Wilt at Kansas getting the rebound, dribbling down court and shooting a jumper just inside the top of key.
If Wilt did a drop step on Embiid
Poor Embiid.
I just laughed at the thought of guys like Holmgren and Wembanyama guarding Wilt. If Chet is guarding Wilt, who’s guarding Chet? The medics outside?

No shit, this is the best Wilt Chamberlain video I’ve ever seen.

Arnold Swartzeneggar said Wilt was the strongest man he ever worked with.Said he was super human strong.A relative of mine who was a clothier in the garment district in Toronto made Wilt a suit.He said that he used almost twice the fabric that a normal sized would of needed. He was 6’3” himself and said his hand disappeared inside wilts when they shook hands. An interesting fact about Wilt was both his parents were of average height.
