It's true. There are a few episodes that range from okayish to completely forgettable, but have that one gag that's so iconic and funny that it takes over the rest.

Flanders suddenly got real buff when wearing a tight-fitting ski-suit. BUT he did rescue Homer when the Simpsons' house was on fire by doing some crazy gymnastics moves, so I guess Flanders was in peak physical condition all along.
If I had to pick the single greatest Simpsons moment of all time, it would be this one. Specifically when the instructor is replaced by Ned in Homer’s mind. Others may disagree of course but that’s it for me.
My personal favorite scene is when Homer attempts a DIY project and fails miserably. “Yeah, that’s one fine looking barbecue pit.” “WHY DOESN’T MINE LOOK LIKE THAT?!?!?!”
For me it’s when Homer asks to borrow money from Patty and Selma and they say they’ll take care of them. The two start chuckling evilly. Homer laughs with them, then goes even harder and starts laughing like a maniac, even though he has no idea what’s going on.
