New Name for Boston University Dorm

  • After a long fight, Boston University will change the name of a dorm that honored a controversial historical figure. The movement to rename the building was led by the Massachusett Tribe at Ponkapoag and current and former Boston University students and faculty. The dorm will now be known by its address, 610 Beacon St., at least for the time being.

    To be clear, this is not about erasing history or just forgetting about Myles Standish. This is about taking a stand and publicly denouncing the deeply troubling actions of historical figures who’ve shown an extreme depravity for human life. This is also about taking the initial steps to show you want to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all students. Let us know what you think.
