    I live right off of Main Street in the north main area. It takes me about 20-25 minutes to get out into the mountain bridge wilderness area, for a hike and great escape. Or 45 minutes to an hour before I’m in Asheville. As a Greenville native who enjoys weekend daycations Greenville is perfect for those who love being outdoors.

    I’ve been a big city guy historically (mainly due to career) but I’m getting closer to 40 and looking to buy in the next few years. I like outdoors activities like hiking but still want a place big enough where it has a good selection of coffee/bars and restaurants. I think work is going to allow me to go fully remote at some point. Greenville certainly peaked my interest. Not sure how easy it is to meet people though as I’m sure most people and friends networks tho as I’m sure most have families etc at my age!

      So, fun story, I've been to a different coffee shop every Friday since the beginning of March! (no big chains). This is an awesome area, and has a lot to offer. =) I think it's super easy to meet people, and find things to do! There is a robust community of people from all over, and all ages, and stages of life! I think you would be pleasantly surprised!

    Greenville city is actually quite large and population-wise is, as of 2020 data, is the 6th largest in the state at around 70,000. Other cities mentioned like Simpsonville, Mauldin, Greer are not even half of this size. Downtown and the city are not the same thing. I live in Greenville about 3 miles south of downtown and I know it spans a good deal more than that with lots of neighborhoods to choose from that aren’t “downtown”. And it’s quite easy to navigate the traffic if you know the roads to take and places to park.

    My girlfriend and I (we are from Md) visited Greenville a few times as a possible retirement destination,...and absolutely found the downtown and Falls Park to be a 10 out of 10. My biggest concerns are that Greenville will become a victim of its own success,i e,..complete gentrification,..too many overpriced condos/lofts/5 over1's,...and a gradual loss of anything ''southern''.I am not in any way blaming the citizens, politicians, planners,..or builders. For better,..or worse,....the city has been discovered,..and has been listed on too many top 10 lists,..that can be both a blessing and (usually) a curse.

      @@williamcravey4884 ....and remember a new tenant ''special'' on rent can easily go up a ridiculous amount (market rate) when the lease ends,..as most property managers know you really don't want to move after just 1 year for a more reasonable rent. We have a sweetheart deal here in Maryland and decided downtown Greenville is way too expensive,,...and the surrounding suburbs have the same traffic /box stores/chain restaurants/fast food as every other suburb in anywhere USA..No thanks,....we will keep looking.

      Hey! Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you liked it as a place to visit! You are correct, Greenville has been listed on many top 10 lists. It's not for everyone and that's ok! Personally I live in Travelers Rest and love our small town here. To the note on complete gentrification, I've been in the area for almost 20 years and have seen this first hand, you aren't wrong that it is happening, however, that's why I think there are other areas that I'm trying to bring attention to that aren't just "Greenville." Anyways, I hope that these videos provide some useful info for your next time through town! =)

      I think if you want to be within 15 min of downtown, yes, rent is crazy high. I have so many friends and clients that are struggling to find places in their price range. It's still cheaper to buy a house in the upstate than it is to rent.

    You'll notice this video talks a lot about traffic, drivability, and parking conditions while completely ignoring public transportation. This is because like most cities in America, Greenville SC is a terminally car-centric place. Greenville has a small "walkable" downtown area that is surrounded by several large ugly parking garages and lined with street parking. Outside of the downtown area you'll find the same lifeless strodes and strip malls that are typical of the American landscape.

    • @aubree_lewis
      @aubree_lewis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your feedback on the upstate Keenan. We all have the things we like and don't like about the upstate. I will agree with you, our public transportation system could use some work. However, over all, The down town and surrounding suburbs of Greenville I think are pretty great. Thanks for adding your insight.

    The home builds are almost overwhelmingly sub par . I am a landscaper and I come to houses that are newly built every spring that were not properly graded, or with sink holes hidden in the lawns along with section of rock. The same equipment used to grade the lot for the house is used to prep the lot for sod. The sod and plants are often left with no watering schedule to dry out next to a newly built house. Unskilled labor (Illegals mostly from Mexico) do most new home construction after quitting their jobs working in local restaurants as restaurants around the south (as well as other industries). Buy an older house. They are a dime a dozen here and dirt cheap around the corner from the new construction build for $400K. African American people are almost hidden in comparison to how many of them live here but you will find them disproportionally represented in the penal system (sad). The plus side is that the community of Afro-American people in the South are the most affluent community of their culture in America. Native nations that made this place a really unique place have all but vanished from the consciousness of the average person that lives here. Their legacy is quietly captured in the names of small rivers and winding creeks that dot this city. Its a beautiful place with a strange ecology. It used to be teaming with bears, raccoons, birds, deer and other wild life. I am not saying you wont see those thing while living here. But compared to how wooded the city is, you could understand how this state was a hot bed for the fur and pelt trade (most furs exported to England , and France) which consumed more than half of the wild life here. I'm not saying the people here are not smart and I am probably the least of them in mental capability and stature but don't expect to meet many road scholars. Stick to talking about politics and church and sports and you will be good. Intellectual topics will draw a quiet blank in most circles . So good luck!

    • @aubree_lewis

      I guess what is your definition of bad? I think it depends on the time of year. When it gets cold I see more bugs moving inside, but when it gets warmer outside, ie the spring time, we see lots of critters! But nothing that would keep me from being outside!
