Have you ever experimented with BLACK 2.0 to make unsettling shadow creatures? I have ordered some a few days ago and want to try it. See if it really removes all details and just leaves the outlines of the minis. If that works it's going to be so sick.
I have recently started using a cheap 3D printer from Amazon to print minis at home. Every once in a while, when they go wrong I add the misprint to my "statue garden" I've been running a campaign with basilisks so it worked to just paint them like stone, bronze never even crossed my mind. Great job!
Statues, Dullahan (Headless minis) or ghosts are my go-to fixes for my mis-fits. Also any heads of Dullahan recruits can be sculpted together to make a face-covered abomination of any kind. Enjoyed, thanks!
Painting random minis as ”ghosts” also works pretty well... and if you have duplicate minis you can paint one “normal” and bring it back in another encounter as a ghost/specter, etc looking for vengeance
Plastic crystals were a nice touch. You also get an easy patina by undercoating in a dark green and dry brushing bronze / gold. The effect is more muted and natural, so it just depends on what you want to achieve. I've also turned action figures into golems with this technique. You can also integrate the miniatures into buildings, columns, terrain pieces, etc. I like the discussion you're starting here. Always up for ideas on how to use minis in different ways.
I feel like the wash interaction actually helped sell the verdigris - on smooth surfaces you normally only see the shiny kind, but more detailed areas IRL can get almost crusted on layers
Nice! I've done this a few times recently myself. It's also a great use for damaged minis you don't want to fix up. I've also used a statue of an NPC to introduce the character into the game.
I had 3d printed some miniatures that were to big in size so I decided to make them into statues and I used your technique above and they came out fantastic...I can't believe how realistic they look. Thank you for this tip...these are GREAT additions to my terrain and I am sure they will be used many times!!

I've got so many mini's that I haven't painted, this is a great idea! One thing that could look pretty awesome with those Pegasus is putting them up on pillars at the entrance to an ancient temple, or adjacent to a throne.
Yea that was what I was thinking right from the start....but I didn’t want to glue them to pillars so they were more modular. I can still place these on pillars if desired.

I had a pretty funny time with a miniature. I had a dwarf I coated in a gold basecoat to get most of the gold out of the way before getting it ready for other colors. My DM picked the dried miniature up and used it as a dwarf coated in magic bronze. After a think I painted it into the bronze dwarf he designed with emerald eyes. Made it an easier project than painting it as a normal dwarf.
A fun way to underpaint bronze - while sticking with the craft paints - under coat with a green color, then drybrush with a green metallic, mix some bronze in with the green metallic - maybe a fifty/fifty mix - then 'drybrush' while the first green metallic layer is still moist. Then again with a straight bronze. Let dry, then give a brown or sepia wash.

I like to use teal pastel crushed with a mortar and pestle and mixing with rubbing alcohol and daubing it around to give a perfect patina look. Also works great for rust effects if you choose an orange-brown pastel. Peace

I'm DMing a D&D campaign and I'm looking at 3D printing another copy of a mini for a character that just died to turn into a statue the town commissioned to honour his sacrifice. This is so far my favourite technique. Looks amazing
Lol me and my brother have been playing the game for around 36 years and we have thousands of minis, "lead, pewter, plastic etc so we have a few unused minis lol, i'll have to post a few pics of the 16 cases of minis and the boxes full of the stuff, yes it's an addiction and the struggle is real lol, and that' just the minis and not the other gaming stuff we collected over the years, and love the channel and your work, keep up the great work :)

For a patina look, you would end up with a better look by skipping the dishsoap and water, thin it down with rubbing alcohol and you get a better look in the end. Tabletop Minions had a video on it that is rather old but quite good and where I'd gotten the technique from.
Oh and there was supposed to be a bow and quiver stowed away on the snakeman's back. That is why he has that weird hole there. Now you will eventually have to find a crafting purpose for that part if you ever find it!
usually tend to mix wizard orb and electric blue from armypainter and water it down with some methanol for the wash. I really dont bother with returning the highlights afterwards as bronze statues usually dont have any original color left, much like roofs of old churches.
Fun tip: try not to dip a water laden brush into the metallic Paint pot directly. Use a dish to mix/paint from. If your metallics pot gets water in it, it can cause the actual metal flakes to start oxidizing and you'll get a weird discoloration going on. Strangely I've only really noticed it in my bronze/brass coloured paints, not so much the silvers.
How funny! I actually just bought a set of those asian style minis on ebay, they definitely won't become statues in my game, but it's fun seeing them here. This is such a cool idea!

I got similar results painting the mini with the green rust color, then a heavy drybrush of bronze, then a light drybrush of gold and finally a watered down black wash so it looks aged and the colors dont look so saturated.
If you have some that are identical (or not) you can paint them as statues made of different materials to also work as part of a puzzle in your dungeon, Wood, Stone, Cobber, gold, crystal and so on!

This video displays your brilliance. There are several blue-geen shades of patina effect, and this mixture allows for the varying shades. By the way, the Ocean Breeze by Craft Smart that you used is just one shade darker than the FolkArt Patina. Adding a few specks of white to it yields the FolkArt Patina color. Originally I planned on making these stone statues, but after looking at the figures I thought they didn't make sense as stone statues, too many parts that probably wouldn't hold up or be possible as stone in real life.

Ghosts is a REALLY good idea for any pc/npc type minis. I’ll have to try that.

Nihilakh Oxide technical paint from Citadel does a really good job of adding verdigris over bronze.
I generally paint my bronze statues slightly different. I start with the verdigris as a layer after priming and then drybrush the metallics.

I also use this technique when applying moss to ancient stone statues (i.e. for graves)
I’ve tried that method and personally didn’t like the results as much.
What color did you use as a base? Something light?

I did a similar bronzed paint on several elf minis I doubled as animated statues. It went over so well!

Very cool, but might I suggest for the metallic coating instead of using the craft paint try using Rust-Oleum metallic finish spray paint.

Very realistic effect! Some statue could have a very polished spot with no oxydation like some statues people like to touch for good luck :D

That texture actually made it look more realistic as oxidized bronze has a similar texture

Bronze Statues are a great idea. I turn mine into Stone ones for games like Mordheim and Frostgrave.

That patina wash is simply uncanny.
