    I worked peak season last year and and got hired back on a week ago. On Saturdays I have to unload the trailers and that is hands down one of the most backbreaking things you can do. Standing in a stuffy, hot trailer unloading up to 1000 parcels per trailer. However, my goal is to be a driver and make the real money and I’ll gladly continue doing this as long as that is in my future.

      Actually decided to stay in the PM because I’m going to school in September. I didn’t want to take the time to learn the routes and new roles in the AM just to leave after a few months later. What I heard from the AM shift workers though it’s just you’re either unloading the trailers, working at the split or loading trucks like this video. There’s a chart where the conveyer belt is with all the street names and if a box passes you with those streets then you put it on the truck according to where they tell you to put it when trained usually how the driver likes it. Overall it’s not a bad job if you got a good team to work with.

      Thankyou sir and God bless you. I dont think 58 is too old it just depend on what shape youre in. If you eat a decent diet, somewhat strong, and good cardio you can do this job. Its gonna be tough no matter the age. Im 47 and i could work 5 hours and it feels like 8-10 hours. So i have to be wise taking care of myself. Also maintaining good posture and lifting techniques is important because some packages can weigh up to 130lbs. Now the health and life insurance benefits are awesome. Id say try it and if its too much work for the pay look for something else.

The best thing to do is just load what you can and just stack the rest behind your truck or under the belt, some will go to the end of the belt for you to get later or someone will hand them to you. • @Jermaine-NC
      @Jermaine-NC  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Orientation is gonna be easy. They're probably gonna have a safety class having you practice carrying packages. Then they will schedule you for a drug test and background check. If that passes then they will schedule your first day of work maybe a week later. Your first day you will have to watch safety videos and sign some papers. Then a supervisor will take you to the work area and train you how to load then turn you loose. You will get the hang of it. As far as wisdom, on your first day take home a load out sheet and memorize the shelving numbers inside the ups trucks. Pace yourself,watch your steps because there gonna be packages everywhere. Bring a half gallon steel water jug and sweat rag. Hope that helps bro. And if you got an orientation you pretty much got the job. Congrats!

    Yo i got a question about the preloader job because I start on the 6th... is it hard finding out where the boxes go when preloading and do you have to do it fast... oh and do you put the boxes in the truck from highest to lowest or what

    • @Jermaine-NC
      @Jermaine-NC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      No its not hard finding where the packages go. The boxes that come down the line will have a printed out sticker on the box to tell you which truck and where in the truck the package goes. For example. The sticker says 10-4000. That means its going to the #10 truck on the 4000 shelf in the truck. The shelves in the truck goes from 1000-8000. Its an easy concept it just gonna take a few days to memorize the shelves and normally they will start you off with 1 or 2 trucks until you get experience then move you up to 3 or 4 trucks. Some of the packages are large so they either go on the floor under the shelves, outside of the truck like leaned on the back, or under the conveyor belt where we take the packages off. And its usually fast pace. Your first day your gonna go over paperwork and watch about an 1hr or so videos then youre going on the floor.. I hope this helps.

      Non peak about 5 trucks. Its a small and old building. I use to complain about it. Asbestos, cobb webbs, drivers have to wait for certain drivers to leave because they arent that many doors smh. • @sherrieadams1253
      @sherrieadams1253 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Jermaine-NC How many routes or trucks with drivers does your center have? I see more than 5. The decap area started at my center in 2007, it's at the head of the belt right past the person scanning which I see you only have one. We have 2 and there are so many packages coming out so fast it's hard to handle sometimes. When they scan a package and it has a HOLD on it, Address correction on it, deliver to a different address, needs to be taped or repaired from box falling apart, damages, things that are closed that day, it is pushed onto rollers that go off the main belt to a area with computers and rollers that feed the exception packages to the person on the computer to correct or whatever it needs. Then when it is fixed or changed there are rollers beside the computer that feeds onto another belt to send it back out to the main belt to be loaded. I hope I explained that for you to understand. How much volume does your center have each day? Before peak we had 700% and it would get worse closer to the holidays.

      @@Jermaine-NC I just looked at the belt and unload again, you do have an old center with the smaller conveyor belt. They put in a new conveyer belt that was wider so I couldn't reach to the other side like I could on the one like your center has. Our center was old but we had an extension they added to it where you have one trailer in the middle feed and the back of the building is that brick wall. They put what looked like a mobile home with more bay doors on the back of the building that extended it out 6 more trucks length on both sides of the belt plus the area for decap was added to that. We had 3 chutes at the unload doors that could unload 3 trucks at one time. Thank you GOD, I got to stop loading and work the decap area that was hard but not as hard as bouncing in and out of those trucks everyday for the last 4 years. Actually you are a clerk in that area.

      @@Jermaine-NC I'm sorry, maybe I'm not explaining it the way you can understand because you show what your center looks like and I can see the way it looks like my center did before they added to the building and made it larger. Where your center has that brick wall is the back of your building and the single trailer in the middle fed out by one chute and one person unloading, that is the old method for small centers. They built a new building onto the back of the old building that linked the old part with the new part and one conveyor belt that spans the length of the entire building. In the new added building there are 6 bay doors on each side of that building and the back extends to 3 dock unload bays for 3 trailers at one time. There are 2 scanners on each side to scan every package and the irregulars, add correct, hold, closed, broken, torn up and retape is fed right past the people that scan on one side of the belt so someone works between 2 sets of rollers that picks off those packages that are sent by rollers to computer stations. After they are fixed, they are then sent back on another moving belt that feeds out to the main belt. That is Decap and is another building built onto the main building. Then as you said when the volume gets too high and more trucks are needed they set up tables with portable rollers to send packages outside with 1 to 3 more trucks backed up and the decap people also load them. I hope you can visualize how I explained it because I don't know if I could if I didn't know for myself. Your center set up is very familiar to me but we had to expand and expand and expand. LOL, I hope you enjoy your experience with UPS because it was good to me and now that I am retired all of the worker bees are paying for my Pension!!!!! LOL God Bless

    • @Jermaine-NC

      Management will go over safety forms and have you watch safety videos. After that a supervisor will then train you how to load trucks

      Heavy!.. Its pretty much double the workload. Normally we go through about 4 or 5 trucks mon-fri non peak season. During peak its about 9-10 trucks mon-sat from black friday till christmas eve. Ater that it drops back to 5 days a week and about 5 or 6 trucks, at least at our hub.

    THE HECK, PREVENT MISLOADS

    • @Jermaine-NC
      @Jermaine-NC  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bless you bro.. Everyone is going to get misloads. At the fast pace and number of trucks to load misloads are gonna happen. You really have to be mindful at all times what youre loading to minimize them. Management will let you know if you had a misload from the previous day. But they wont fire you over it. So just be mindful as much as possible.
