In this category the best one i've ever seen. Brilliant Quality, good sound an voice and beside that, i can learn a lot, flying my MD82 in Flight Simualtor
@jbraunger That gauge is reading in kilograms, not pounds. You can tell because of the gross weight reading below the total fuel weight, which is somewhere in the 475XX kilogram range. This aircraft weighs over 80,000 pounds when empty, so it would be impossible to have a 475XX pound gross weight. Based on this fact, the aircraft has around 5500 pounds of fuel on board.
@AirSimming I that case, why is the DC-9/MD-80 series always classed as best airliner? TBO, I prefer the 757, but is usually 6/7th below the md-80 and 737!
@dookiekong007 Pilots are 'rated' on a particular aircraft type. These chaps are obviously rated on the MD80 but maybe (and most likely) the 737 as well (and perhaps smaller types like the ATR-72, considering it's KLM). They couldn't fly a 777 or Airbus because they aren't rated. Routes are on a bid system, with the more experienced pilots (or higher company positions) getting the more exotic routes. Jets are basically the same in terms of going up and down, but that's all!
To be clear.. The MD-81/82/83 have a DC-9-81/82/83 type rating. The MD-87/88 have an MD-88 type rating. The MD-90-30/ER have their own type rating, even though the cockpit is in most cases similar to the MD-88. The Boeing 717-200 is in fact an MD-95 but with a more modern cockpit very similar to MD-11.
@CaptainBergs Yes, that's true, but he couldn't divert if something happened at the airport regarding visibility or a plane disabling the runway. It's commonplace not to allow less than 5000# of fuel on landing in that particular plane. They had half that!
A magnificent cockpit video masterpiece which, by the way, reveals certain bad habit of disabling the GPWS callouts and alarm fuse. History proves there have been MD80 accidents because of that.
so how do pilots know if they're gonna fly which plane? Do they get to choose or does it really depend on the training or are all jumbo jets basically the same?
@applejuice1324 I understand, it would certainly be nice to see this awesome bird with a little more stability. But MD didnt really think about that when they designed the DC-9 series lol.
@applejuice1324 I dont know if you have been in an MD-80, there is absolutely no room for a tripod lol. On a slightly larger aircraft I can understand, but an MD-80 has no spare room lol
The sound is made when autopilot reaches the sudden altitude it is assigned to. Did you notice pilot kept changing the altitude when the sound was made. this shows that plane was descending.
@dookiekong007 Pilots are 'rated' on a particular aircraft. These pilots are obviously rated on the MD80 but maybe also the 737, so they could fly either. However, they won't go near an Airbus or 777 until they have a rating on that type. As for routes, it's a bidding system and the most experienced pilots get the more exciting routes. Start at the bottom, in other words!
The buzzing in the background is to let the pilots know the stabilizer trim is running. The 80 does not have a trim wheel like the Boeing aircraft, there is no visual indication of trim movement except for the little pointer on the left hand side of the console, when your busy one normally do not look down there. The horn is the only way you know you have a runaway trim.
Huh, the GPWS callouts are the ones that Boeing uses (or rather, the voice I guess), not the classic MD female ones. Is this because Boeing bought out McDonnell Douglas?
These pilots av probably rated on types MD80-MD86. MD87 is a different ballgame with digital cockpit. Flying MD80 does not mean that your're rated on Boeing 737. It's a totally different aircraft model.
I cant get enough of these cockpit videos. Has always been a dream of mine. Crew is very competent and professional. post more, Please.
Thank you so much for the time and effort to post this video. Avation enthusiasts like myself love to see this stuff, again..thank you!
This entire series is enjoyable. Thanks again!
In this category the best one i've ever seen. Brilliant Quality, good sound an voice and beside that, i can learn a lot, flying my MD82 in Flight Simualtor
I love this series. Thanks for posting.
Very nice video. Md80 is one of the best airplanes ever.
The sounds in the cockpit are so magical

Thanks for the upload! Really enjoyed it!!
Great video.. Regards from Venezuela....!!!!!
@1jonle READ a little more, BEFORE a long haul flight (on another aircraft) to Miami. This flight is Copenhagen to Dusseldorf.
Perfectly done! Can use it as a tutorial for my Maddog Leonardo MD82 for Flight Simulator. Astonishing. Thank you so much, and keep going!!!!!
Nice job man, wonderful video.
Very nice approach and landing. Beautiful airplane. Congratulations!
The MD-80 is one of 2 of my favorite airplane.
Very very good!!!! Espescially the HD!!!
Haha that car looks so small at the end :P the MD-80 is an Awesome plane :D
looks like a ghost yoke at 2:22 :-P. NIce video sir.
Great point! I didn't realize foreign carriers used kg but it does make sense.
Dont say so bigboyconour
i am da pilot in this video
thanx for puttin up this video
i enjoy it gr8ly
Damn i love the crystal clear quality of this video, GJ! My bandwith doesn't however :O
Great video! thx for sharing. very professional crews

At 3:55 were you guys discussing going around if the winds were gusting 35 knotts as the tower said?

I was wondering, how do you get into the cockpit to take the video?
Simply great, helps me to work into my MD82 for Flight Simulator 9
@mmmpetersen HI i love planes i wanted to ask are you a pilot?
and if your not how can i ask to go to the cockpit?
and can i record while in takeooff?
Awesome video:)
nice clean looking cockpit
Nice flying cap!
First officer was flying.
how did they let you record while you were landing wouldnt they make you return to your seat?

Wow, Scandinavian language rules. Good pilots, good video. Thanks for sharing it

Amazing Vid!
Was this a Flaps 28 landing, or Flaps 40 landing? I couldn't make that out in the video.
What vs do you hit the ground for example -400 fpm
@applejuice1324 I understand, it would certainly be nice to see this awesome bird with a little more stability. But MD didnt really think about that when they designed the DC-9 series lol.
did they retract flaps the closer they got to the strip? what are they saying between 7:10-738. "flaps 10.....flaps 5...."?
from copenhagen to dusseldorf did you fly SAS
Looks like a nice little left crosswind?
to go from Dusseldort to Miami, does this jet have to have ETOPS certification?
excellent vid. thankyou :)
il n'y a pas d'ecrans a bord du MD80?
@applejuice1324 I dont know if you have been in an MD-80, there is absolutely no room for a tripod lol. On a slightly larger aircraft I can understand, but an MD-80 has no spare room lol
What happened to the SOP - "Sterile Cockpit" below 10K FT???? LOL
Hi Caines Canon HG-21
It really take nice hd shots Spec viewed on big screen
how do you manage to get into the cockpit....
What is that horn noise in the cockpit of a DC-9/MD80?
The sound is made when autopilot reaches the sudden altitude it is assigned to. Did you notice pilot kept changing the altitude when the sound was made. this shows that plane was descending.

How did you enter the cockpit?
Brilliant, thanks!!!!
pourquoi tu n'es pas resté concentré sur ce que font les pilotes?
Part 3 disappeared-does anybody have a link?
Awesome vid.thanks
Correct, unless it isn't a MD90-55 (DC9-90-55) which is also known as Boeing 717. ;-)
@applejuice1324 the cameraman is sitting. An MD-80 cockpit is extraordinarily small.
md80 to miami??
What that buzzing sound in the background??
The buzzing in the background is to let the pilots know the stabilizer trim is running. The 80 does not have a trim wheel like the Boeing aircraft, there is no visual indication of trim movement except for the little pointer on the left hand side of the console, when your busy one normally do not look down there. The horn is the only way you know you have a runaway trim.
It's only called the 717 not the MD90-55 or DC9-90-55 they stopped that after the MD-80.
whats that ringing sound?
What is that tone called at 0:35?
love the gear sound:D
@mmmpetersen quality is suberb
Way to hustle on the final!
Huh, the GPWS callouts are the ones that Boeing uses (or rather, the voice I guess), not the classic MD female ones. Is this because Boeing bought out McDonnell Douglas?
I was wondering the same thing. Thinking maybe some avionics were retrofitted. Even the 717 uses MD callouts...
beautiful, exellent job men.
@southwest1998 sometimes theres a third pilot
everytime I drive over the Autobahn you can see there and I see the planes on approach, I wish I was the Pilot of this.
These pilots av probably rated on types MD80-MD86. MD87 is a different ballgame with digital cockpit. Flying MD80 does not mean that your're rated on Boeing 737. It's a totally different aircraft model.
MD-95 actually never exited though. So it's only called the 717-200.
MD-80 series have really good cockpits and fuel efficiency, but i dont like the exterior look, it looks like its gunna snap...
dude dis is fucking awesome!
Which camera is used? Nice vid
Also check mine, search for ENAT and 737. Filmed in 2006 with a CanonS3 IS
I love this aircraft but have never flown on one :(
I've flown on a DC9 (which is kinda similar I guess)
SAS?
Being a pilot looks freaking hard
good landing my dad flys a md 80
@chipjumper it can't be in this plane he must mean a different aircraft
I like it very nice!!!!!1
FSXreality it is SAS or Scandinavian airlines
love how he said "65 knots"
No, MD80 TO Dusseldorf
@beeroosterm Seriously?
No sterile cockpit, lol. Good job none the less.
They just landed an MD80 in marginal visibility with 2500 pounds of fuel. That's unsafe. A go around would have cost them almost 1000 pounds....
@Bachke408 Wind 140 @ 15 gust 25
It's not a CONUS flight, so FAA rules don't apply
well i'm the 737 guy, but this is fucking cool
youre landing at the airport where i work, lol...
When he put the gear down it sounds like my POS Chrysler 300 on rough pavement
They have great CRM.
Big thanks to @1jonie THUMBS UP :)
