      @@BrockMcGoff I would love to see under 300 & 200 as well.
      But are you sure about the mako II price? Where I live it's under 200 dollars, sometimes under 150 dollars. Even mako III/kamasu costs around 250 dollars and it got sapphire crystal instead of mineral.

    I’ve been wearing my Seiko SARB035 every day for about four years.
    It’s not the most accurate watch, but I love it. It’s a classic.

    • @dustycups
      @dustycups 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      After all that wear, how does it look? I worry about getting my SARB033 too scratched up. I'm generally not too fussed about my watches getting scratched but the SARB doesn't seem like one that would wear it's scratches well due to the fine design of the case.

    • @Archer335
      @Archer335 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dustycups ,
      It looks great-almost like new. The bezel is a little scratched, but I don’t mind that. It’s 316L steel. Just wear the thing. 😁 That’s what it’s for. Enjoy!

      Lol in the same breath that he says it has a see-through caseback, it cuts to a frame with the SS caseback. I have the sarb017 (model in the vid) and it has a steel caseback with the alpinist logo on it. The recently released Prospex models do have a clear case back though.

    The seiko sarb017 (alpinist), sarb033, skx007 have been discontinud and prices have increased a lot. The Sarb 017 also has a new generation, all owners agree on how garbage the strap is (me included).
    About Timex, they have a new diver inspired design that is very playfull with a pepsi dial

    • @punkoid76
      @punkoid76 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Raphael Falque I bought an Alpinist in 2015 for £275, you’re right about the strap as it’s junk. I tried it on various straps and just never really liked wearing it and thought it was a bit overrated to be honest. I sold it a few months back for £560, so it wasn’t a bad investment. I think in ten years time they will either be going for £300 or over £1000...it’s a gamble.

    • @raphaelfalque683
      @raphaelfalque683 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@punkoid76 I see them as getting forgotten. Maybe not as there is a weird niche for it tho (there is a fb page about this specific page with 5k members), and the sarb017 is kind of considered as one of the cleanest modern design

    Great List! I have 4 of the watches on your list, Personally as a sports watch the fit, finish and performance of the Seiko Turtles are my favorite and you can still find those for about $250-300. I don't like the Seiko bands, an upgrade in the band makes a Big difference I like the Strapcode Super Jubilee bracelets for about $100 combined with a Turtle still gets you under the $500 mark and makes your watch look 2-3x better, You can also get upgrades on the bands on many of the watches on your list and for some you really should. Thanks for the Video!

  • @ParanoiaFin

    Great video Brock! Really liking these watch themed videos.
    My thoughts: Pretty much depends on the mood which watch I would choose, but for everyday use I'd pick Seiko Turtle or Hamilton khaki. Steinhart has also many great watches around that 500 budget, but they share opinions. Also as you mentioned many microbrands have a lot of good options.

    Hi,
    I have a Seiko Presage SPRD-41and im loving it.
    I noticed that the retaining ring / movement holder is plastic instead of metal.
    After reading some forums apparently Seiko cut corners and installed plastic to save money. Do you think that was the reason and will it effect he quality / longevity of the watch.

    My favorite watch I have bought so far is the Timex Todd Snyder Gold Welton. It is a 34mm quartz dress watch, that uses what I'm certain is the same case as the 34mm handwound Marlin. I put it on a Speidel Twist-o-Flex bracelet, and it fits it perfectly. The black leather strap it comes on is nice too, just a little too formal for everyday wear. It is around $160, but I found a 15 percent off code. Literally the perfect budget dress watch in my opinion.

    Never worn a watch, have a antique British pocket watch which I wear occasionally, but nevertheless I enjoyed this. They must be much cheaper in the USA though... the Junghans Max Bill Automatic for example is over £1,300 retail in the UK! even the non-automatics are over £500.

    Nice video... Can you also make a video focusing on watches under US$ 300 that is suitable for all occasion (sort of 1-watch collection on a 300 US$ price range). Thanks.

    I expected to own quite a few of these as $500 is my sweet spot. SARB033, SKX, baby SKX (Long Island upgraded version), and vintage Omega Seamaster. I’d add the Tissot Visodate Heritage which can be had with an ETA 2824 for under $500.

    I’d say for Orient, go for the Kamasu And for Seiko get a used Sarb33/35 and call it a day.

    Hey Brock you're an Apple fan. What do you think of smart watches like the Apple Watch? A review soon I hope?

    See thru case back? Your display showed a steel case back. Just want clarification. Thanks.

      My mistake. The new Prospex version has see through caseback. The original 017 (discontinued) has a solid caseback.

    Sorry not to see any Glycines in the list. The legendary Airman, Combat Sub, Combat 6 etc would surely have to be considered mate as you get aviator, diver and semi casual/field styled watches with those 3 collections and they are below $500. Otherwise, nice video. Great work!

    There´s something really appealing about the Seiko Alpinist!! It also looks awesome with either the steel or the brown gato band:) I want to buy it some day

    You'll spend 500 on that Omega and drop another grand or more the first time it needs service.

    I have never heard of Filson before and now I am confused why that near zero complications quartz watch costs $350.

    Great list Brock, you have excellent taste. I have 5(!) of the watches you mention. 😉
    As for other watches, I just bought the GoldenEye Glycine Combat Sub for $300. The other watch I'm eyeing is the Smith's Everest @ $399.
    Keep up the great work.

    Hi Brock! Great video and great watches! Unfortunately Seiko SARBs are not produced anymore and are running out of stock. I've had a lucky strike and bought a SARB033 recently on amazon for less than 400$. However, it is every day harder to find SARBs and prices are going up. I suggest all the interested modest men here to speed up if interested!

    Great list of watches for under $500 Brock. You certainly did your homework and picked some real gems! If we include watches purchased via the gray market for under $500 I would propose considering a Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 which I purchased for just over $400 recently from Jomashop. Another recent Jomashop purchase for less than $350 is the Hamilton Khaki King with a beige dial and leather strap. Nice job on the video and I enjoy the content you put out on your Channel...Ed
