    3. not overly active . we're mostly lazy

    1 - CLEANING THE FOLDS
    2 - Sunburn
    3 - They can't handle heat
    4 - They can't handle cold
5 - *holy god* they're stubborn as hell. There's a reason Churchill is likened to a Bulldog.
    Here we go, bonus round
6 - They need a lot of attention
    7 - They'll play. For 5 minutes. On Thursday. Once a month.
8 - You can't leave them alone, they don't deal with you being gone
    9 - Because they're basically a body builder, they can't swim
10 - THE GODDAMN HAIR. Their hair may as well be needles on the floor.

I’ve had English Bulldogs for decades. The most sensitive, caring, gentle, lovable dogs on the planet. I’m getting another one next week. You are correct in much of what you say here - stubborn, need to be next to their human 24/7, prone to health issues, not athletic - all this is mostly true. But they make every day wonderful, funny, and loving. Also, Vets can now perform a procedure (minor surgery) to open their airway so they never again have many of the problems you describe here. But it needs to be done when they’re still pups under a year or so. After that, they’re set for life. In fact they live about 3 years longer than typically expected because their airway is opened up and they can breathe freely and stay healthy. Best dog on the planet.

I lost my make English Bulldog due to heat exhaustion. My husband always said they were sensitive but I had no idea the severity of his sensitivity & discovered the most awful way… he died. I put him outside to potty for about 5 minutes & that’s all it took. I tried to rush him to the vet but I believe he took his final breath before I even got there. At the clinic I took him too & after they declared him gone they put him in the back room. They were busy with other patients at the front desk so I asked if I could go back to see him with the intent on trying to revive him. Much to my surprise, there were 4 EBD puppies in a kennel next to where our dog was. By the end of the week I had gone back & I took the only female. My intent is to spay her. I really feel for the EBD breeding should be governed and anyone want to adopt one should also have stipulations such as a class you have to take to be certified to own one. My heart will always be broken over our dog & I do not condone anyone who breeds this breed for any reason. Dogs are companions not money makers & I can’t even imagine what Father God sees that we don’t that we wouldn’t like. I will live with the guilt of loosing our dog for a very long time as I am very compassionate towards all Gods creatures & I would have never wished this to happen to anyone not even my worst enemy. We love & miss him dearly & we always will. It is just like loosing you kid.
I also have a friend that had another male & she put him in a kennel while they went to attend her sister’s funeral. The dog died at the kennel we all believe of a broken heart. If you get an EBD spay or neuter and DO NOT BREED! If you want an EBD you also need to always be with it & have the time money & patience this breed requires. Please take it from me this is more than a precious face to look at. It is a serious commitment that requires one to be fully prepared for the journey they are about to embark on. Thank you for reading.

@@Sebastian-qi7go only if you want to put up with what was discussed in the vid and what you may read in comments. However it is very very expensive. Hair will hands down be everywhere nothing you can do about it. They have some behaviors you may not be able yo put up with. Sometimes they will make you want to fight them. You can’t tho. It is a very heavy dog. Otherwise if you literally have the time. Go for it! They also can test up a home super bad even when someone is watching them like other family in home. If you are the one to get em only you are whom they vibe with most. You never make decisions on feelings… only facts then what you bring in those facts. C’man

We have a 3 year old female, Gypsy❤. At 5 months old we had her following the "stay" command, which we used for food. We trained her to not touch her food no matter if it was a treat, carrot, dog food....whatever. She would not touch it if we said "stay" until we gave the "go ahead" command. We carried this over to objects and toys. Also at 5 month she followed "leave it". We trained this for dropping toys or something she was eating she wasn't supposed to eat. She never chewed anything in our house after 6 months because we were so rigorous about it. We carried "leave it" to anything she was messing with that she wasn't supposed to (bugs, furniture). These 2 commands were instrumental in her becoming so obedient and well trained. She knows "stay" is you don't move and "leave it" is stop and drop what you are doing immediately! But it was at least 2 months of consistency and reinforcement. Way harder for them to learn than other breeds we have had but if you put in the work they will impress you!

As the owner of a beautiful, 100% sweetie pie, lover of animals and people, everything you have said is so true. Even though BigBoy gets fed twice a day, everyone said he is so fat. His doctor said he was fine. I don't overfeed. But being the owner of many dogs, BigBoy is the best dog I have ever had. He has so much love in him, but the health problems can be scary. We were at the doggy park a few years ago, and the heat got to him and he almost died, tongue was blue, and doc was not available. I poured tepid water all over him and had him the car with air conditioning prior to just dousing him with buckets of cool water. That was the day I learned no dog park especially in 90 degree heat. She definitely has some of the selective hearing thing going on at rare times, but mostly she is incredibly well behaved.and does what I tell her to. She is such a loving and funny dog, and she loves performing her many tricks and get rewarded - mostly she loves food rewards, but she will do it regardless as she loves her praise and cuddles too. Best decision I EVER made was buying her almost 4,5 years ago - the perfect mix between two INCREDIBLE breeds 🧡

@@helenHTID well, we very strongly disagree with regards to that. I find that pure breeds are often suffering from health concerns because they are bred to look certain ways that might not be ideal for the health of the dog, while mixing the breeds can help with that by offering more genetic diversity.

You really have be quite well off to afford any of the short muzzle dogs. That being said they are among the most loveable, loving, and comically funny pets you could ever hope to have.

I’m the oldest of 5 so we drove her crazy. ❤️🐶 Soon after my dad got into showing & we got Willie & Snoggy. After that it there were always at least two. My bulldog is 3 now. Fit as a fiddle. The vet is always complimentary on what good physical shape he is in and how good his breathing is. He's walked everyday for around 45 minutes to an hour through a forest. Never struggles. Buy from a reputable breeder with a good strong bloodline and you shouldn't have any major issues. Just irresponsible breeders giving these superb dogs a bad name. Do your homework that's all!!!

We just adopted a 6 yr old neutered male English. My daughter's family had a friend who had him since a puppy but due to his life circumstances could no longer keep him. He lived at my daughter;s for about 9 months, with cats and chickens no problems. She asked us to take him as her son began developing allergy to him. He has been with us for about a week. He has a terrible cherry eye, and I think some ear issues. He will NOT let us put medication in ears, eye, or the nose butter on his terrible dry nose. I am not sure if I trust him yet as I am having trouble "reading" his actions/personality. He will NOT come when called unless he thinks you have a tidbit for him. He is fully housetrained, sleeps on his ortho mats , one in his kennel box and one on the floor. He sleeps most of the time. I have a small Jack Russell/Chihuahua neutered male and although they are not agressive to each other, the English is continually wanting to "hump" him AND us! Not sure if we will keep this boy, perhaps better to find a home that has experience with this breed. He does not have too many "wrinkles" which is good as again he will not let us wipe his face, eyes or nose. He is quite overweight so we are addressing that and we will slowly put him on a homemade diet of raw ingredients and some veggies. I have owned Boston Terriers, Boxers and Pittie types over the years without problems. This guy is 60 lbs of STUBBORN and obviously set in his ways from previous long term owner. Don't know if we can teach an older dog new behaviors, time will tell. We will give him a chance but at this writing I am thinking we will be finding him a home with experienced owner. They are fun to watch on videos but having one in the home is not that!

In regards to the health section I think it’s a very vague and generalising point. Saying “ you’re guaranteed to spend loads of money at the vet is wrong” if you buy any dog from a bad breeder you will have issues, my bulldog is 7 and we have spent very little time and money at the vet. Because I spent loads of time finding a good breeder I have an amazing bulldog who’s is healthy. The insane amount of inbreeding is a major cause of the health issues and any breed bred this way would experiance many of the listed issues

Great video, it's actually a video of why I should get a British Bulldog.
I want a house dog that will be chill but can scare off intruders if needed
I once spent £1200 on a cat because he got a piece of grass stuck in his nose, so vets fees are not a problem
I love my sedentary lifestyle and want a dog that will only need 15-30 minutes exercise every day
I'm stubborn too and want a dog that mirrors my outlook on life. I don't need my dog doing tricks
I work from home most of the time and want a dog that will hang out with me

All those reasons are valid concerns, but that does not mean that every Bulldog will deal with some or any of these things. I have a Bulldog that we got to keep our male Boxer company after our female Boxer passed away and he has been the complete opposite of all the issues listed on this video. We feed them a high quality dog food which has made fas a non-issue, his weight is in check and as a result he is a happy healthy ball of energy. I honestly cannot think of a better breed to be part of a family. Our Bully has made our life better and I would hate for others to miss out on what they have to offer. If you’re on the fence, just do it! You won’t regret it.
