    Great video , very informative for the younger flutists out there. I'll pass on this video to my students too. I also play a Brannen -14k model, with an original 14k Lafin headjoint. The Brogger Mekanik is so great, Miyazawai also has the Brogger System on their flutes, and it's fantastic too. Thanks for sharing this video!

    Today I just got a Pearl open hole B flat flute. I'm only in junior high but I do honor band, flute competitions, take private lessons, I'm in MYS (Metropolitan Youth Symphony) and in the highest group, and I'm hoping to make it into regionals next year and possibly try out for all state. I am also going to be doing flute camp this summer. I was wondering if the flute I got was good for what I am and will be doing?

    I played on Yamahas from beginner level all the way to advanced. My last flute is a professional custom-made Yamaha! Always wanted to play on a Muramatsu though. Anyway, flute is history for me, heh.

    I got mine at a pawn shop. It was a Gemmheinhardt. Hard to play. Sold it on ebay and went to a music shop and bought a Jupiter...tried it out in the shop...easy to play.

    There is a plastic (yes, plastic!) flute made by Nuvo Instrumental, Ltd. that I myself have purchased. It is generally much less expensive (around 200 US dollars!) than most other flutes, yet (to me, at least) sounds and works just as well. As you might expect, it is lighter in weight than metal flutes and I believe is easier to maintain. Plus, it comes with both a conventional lip plate as well as a "Firstnote" plate (resembling the mouthpiece of a recorder), which helps beginners (like me) in particular by mitigating embouchure troubles, thereby allowing less distracted concentration on fingering. These plates can be quickly interchanged by snapping one off and the other on. One other unique feature of this amazing instrument is a range of color options (black, white, pink, blue, or green)! I bought mine through Guitar Center, but a list of other retailers can be obtained on the manufacturer's website.

      +Flutosopher I agree this can be a great beginner flute, however the tone quality is much less ideal than the metal/silver flutes. I always recommend trying things out before your buy if you have the luxury.

    I am in a weird category. I started playing alto sax in Junior High band in 1976! I was fairly a prodigy and began playing in local community theater pit orchestras in 1978 when I added regular Bb clarinet and bass clarinet so I could double.
    I became an actor and playing woodwinds after Sophomore year in high school took a backseat for a while but I've come back to it on repeated occasions.
    Now as a 54 year old man I want to regain some of the joy in my life from my pit playing BUT I also want to add new instruments. SO! An old high school friend gifted me her clarinet AND two, count them, TWO flutes! ONE is a pretty Armstrong flute while the other is a 42 year old Bundy with a slightly dented mouth piece on the head joint.
    As an older guy with dents of his own, I can't bring myself to put down this older, imperfect flute.
    ANYWAY!
    I'm gonna take all three horns and have them serviced. And I'm going to TRY to take flute lessons online....but I have a feeling that I'm gonna need to find private lessons here in NJ/NYC....I am SURE I'll have no issue finding a teacher.
    Meanwhile I search for an alto sax, a bass clarinet (MY GAWD THEY ARE EXPENSIVE!!!!!) and later an oboe and bassoon.
    Before I die I wanna do it all!
    I thank you for this video! It helped me know what flute brands to wish for and it so happens I have one!

    Since I started out playing the Irish flute and whistle, I bought an intermediate model open-hole Gemeinhardt but was sad to hear you never mentioned it :-(
    ...and while I have your attention, do you attach a microphone to your flute when you're recording or do you just play in front of a mic and which one do you prefer?

    I am currently playing a MOG (sn# 120338) transverse silver flute. Where would rate this brand? But most of the time I play Sakuhachi or native american flutes for personal meditation or inner emotions release. Keep up the fine work you are doing and i wish you much happiness in your new years start in Milwaukee.

      +bruce howard I've asked around here in the studio and Mog is considered a no-name brand so I would recommend when possible to find a yamaha or jupiter flute as your next flute. At least a brand that is reputable, those will last the longest.

    Hello! Your videos are awesome! I listened to a street performer a month ago and since then I'm in love with the sound of flutes. But sadly I can't afford a concert flute (they are really expensive in my country) and I also learned in your one of your videos that there's a wooden Indian flute, and the wooden sound was amazing as well so I am considering on buying a bansuri. But I'm not into hindustani music, I would like to use it to play Western classical music. I've read that you can use a bansuri as you would use a concert flute leading bending techniques. What key should the bansuri be on to match the sound or style of the concert flute? Any kind of advice is appreciated and thanks a lot!

    Question: I've been playing the flute for about 5 years and I am grade 5 currently (I hope to be grade 6 this summer) and I'm still using my first flute. Its a Jupiter student flute, closed hole (not sure exactly what model). I have tried my best to keep it in good condition but its tarnished around the keys and the embouchure hole. The pads on the keys aren't totally worn out to the point where I can't make a good sound but they are getting there. I don't really have anything to compare it to so I can't tell whether its time to upgrade or not. I also don't know what to class myself as. I don't know if I'm beginner, intermediate or teetering on advanced. I honestly am not sure of the difference between each. My question is, should I upgrade my flute? If so, what brands do you recommend? Should I wait until I'm a higher grade?

    I played im band for 2 years, 15 years ago and I play my flute 2 or 3 times a year. I currently own the armstrong 104 i had from band. Would you suggest having a full maintenance done on this flute or sell it and get a new one? If you suggest selling what would be the smarter options to go with?

    What is the difference between an open-hole flute and a closed-hole flute? I am curious. Also, do you have to open the keys on the more advanced flutes to be able to play?

    • @bevaniflute
      @bevaniflute  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Jodie Yu open hole flutes most importantly help with finger placement and efficiency - when your fingers are in the correct spot you are able to play much faster and smoother! It can also sightly improve tone.

      +Jodie Yu Hey Jodie, I'll put this on my list for tutorials to go over my other flutes! I'm not quite sure what keys you're talking about by the thumb but there is an alternate way to play Bflat with the round key on your left thumb key... maybe that's what you're referring to?

    My budget is about 3500.(and honestly my dad isn't happy about that at all but I think i'v talked him into it) I think I will end up buying the flute from fluteworld.com. What do you think of my choices and what do you think I should get of those three and do you recommend any other brands?

      I have tried them! There are definitely some great features. Super light weight, durable and great to play outside. The trade off is the tone - it's not as full or rich sounding as the silver flutes. I think it's great for beginners and people who want to play outside. Hope that helps a little :)

      +Nikos Violetta Definitely go for the open hole flute. This will help train your fingers to be more efficient and improve your technique. You can always buy plugs for the flute to start off with. Definitely ask if you can try the flute first before you purchase it!! All the best to you!

    what is an ideal price for all these flutes?

    • @bevaniflute
      @bevaniflute  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ThailBeez Very much depends if you buy new or used. Used beginner flute should be around $100 -$300. Beginner new flute $300-$800 for a decent flute and then it all goes up!

      I think the 211 would be fine if it's in good condition!

    I've been playing my yamaha begginers flute for 10 years ...and it is dying. I'm searching to buy a step up flute now. What brand is at a good price range to pay for a step up flute . I've seen that porffesionals start from the 4000 and go up from there. I am looking for a more economical option but a good quality. (I play my flute recreationally but do some performances here and there. ) thanks!!

      +Bevani Flute thank you so much ..I was able to try all these at the store and my top two were the Altus 807 silver plated hand crafted and the azumi az3 solid silver ...the price difference between these was about 400 ,but to my surprise the altus 807 was the more expensive one bc it was handcrafted although it was only silver plated .....im really debating now bc I thought the more precious the material was the better the instrument I do feel like the Altus has slightly a better fuller sound ,but I'm not sure if it's worth the $400 difference .....as far as durability and tone which one in your opinion would be worth the price ....help please!!

      +gmagam I don't think you could make a wrong choice with these two - both are great flutes. I wouldn't get caught up in the solid silver versus silver plated. Ask you heart now : )
