As a based fellow dart enjoyer I can testify that crystal darts are overtuned as a pre-mech option, they can carry you all the way through the Golem fight. If you've never given them a shot, you're missing out on of the most fun unorthodox weapon choices for rangers.

I was thinking if prehardmode alternatives are classified by biomes, then hardmode armour alternatives can be the vertical biomes! Like cave spider biome for summoner, something with harpy feathers (I get insane amounts of them) for ranger, and something from hell for mages
Those are some cool ideas. What is the mini biomes were used for armors, giving them another use. Like maybe a new hardmode marble and granite enemy that drops something you use to make armor

A trick I've tried a few times for Old One's Army is to stack all of your sentries on one side of the arena, with additional platforms so you can place them at varying heights. Even ballistas can handle the flying enemies if there's enough of them and they're positioned at a good vantage point. Then just use all your normal equipment to deal with the remaining side of the arena - this approach cuts down on the time you spend running back and forth between the sides, which is time the enemies can use to push you further in. Generally, offense over defense is a good strat for OOA.
This was asked last month but I thought to bring it up on the most recent video: If I remember correctly people make the crystal blocks glow by putting purple gemspark walls behind it, since it makes a glow
Yeah, I know of that strategy but I found that it didn't create the effect I was looking for, primarily since the wall could only be used a little bit without it sticking out from behind the blocks
I dont mind having to mine hardmode ore. I feel like it's one of the last times that you really do much 'exploration' in the game. I'd like to see more reasons to explore, honestly. Calamity mod helps a fair bit here, but vanilla could definitely use more to search for in the late game.
Yes, I have always said that after your first mech kill to start life fruit hunt, hardmode becomes a boss rush. Hardmode ore and life fruit is the only hardmode exploration. Just back to back bosses and optional events after mechs. Hardmode ore is also weird. You mine about 60 ore for tier 1 pickaxe, 60 ore for tier 2 pickaxe and then you farm for tier 3 gear. Tier 1 and Tier 2 hardmode ore have no reason to be used if you can upgrade it right away. No boss or event stopping you.
a bunch of really cool looking builds, the OOA arena looks super nice (also i'm pretty sure ogres keep spawning until you kill one that gets you to 100%, there's not a set amount), also drippler crippler joins the list of anti-destroyer weapons also if you haven't already done this, you can use hoiks to help out with the OOA by placing an upside-down slope facing both portals then block-swapping them to platforms, you can also run through the event and put etherian mana in a chest before the event ends to save it for later runs (as long as the chest isn't opened when an event isn't ongoing), it might seem cheesy (because it is) but stage 2 and 3 OOA is honestly just absurdly difficult so imo it's fair
your dedication to a single world is really cool to see. btw if you want to recreate the gradient effect It’s being created by the lights around the pillar
The Flairon is a flail because it is classified as such on the wiki, but the Solar Eruption I'm pretty sure is classified as an other weapon, like the dart pistol or the blow pipe.
ive been doing a similar thing. not rushing doing as many things as i want (mainly building). ive got every piece of armour and vanity available in prehardmore. cleared world evils prehardmode too for the fun of it. ive already done 120h and its still prehard mode. its really fun when you're not rushing. i love to see what you've done with your world. reminds me of those old terraria challenge videos.

i believe you make a profit of gel when farming king slime and his minions, disregarding the ores and rubies for the crowns required to make the summons, but those are infinitely farmable if you 1: fish (for the bars) and 2: create a gem tree farm, which isnt too hard to do, i believe the gemcorns just need open space in the cavern layer of your world in order to grow into gem trees
@@ThroarbinThey need a space of at least 16 blocks vertically, and they need to be clear for 2 blocks to either side of the gemcorn (not overlapping with other gemcorns.) If you want to wall it off and make it safe, gemcorns can only grow in front of fences (the 2 blocks where the sapling sprite is shown after it's planted) but you hardly see them even when the gemcorn trees haven't grown. The rest of the space can be walled off however you like. I have a gemcorn farm in my mage world and it's an insane money maker from diamonds and amber, but now that it's getting outclassed in hard mode I just use it for amber for crate potions.
03:00 One of the things I believe the Devs did and intended - was to push the Player toward focusing more on offensive options to off-set the difficulty spike in Hardmode [of which you are spoiled for choice]; not-so-much take the edge off. Spider Armor, Crystal Assassin Armor and don't forget Obsidian Armor, are all examples of this. Pre-Hardmode is about hiding behind defense upgrades, it'd be weird for Hardmode to copy pre-Harmode in the same manner IMHO. Also keep in mind that, the offensive options the Player has access to in Hardmode include Buffing Stations (of which more were added in 1.4.4) and craftble "Fusion Accessories" at the Tinkerer's Workshop and access to 3 Sentries pre-Mech.
There are a lot of weapon options, sure, though I'm a little confused by the point. I think it'd just be cool to have other variants for armor sets that would require you to go to different parts of the world. That way you can have each class go to different biomes. Maybe, like, the ranger goes to the desert for armor in pre-hardmode and now in hardmode the ranger has armor they can craft from things in the ocean. They could still do mining, but some more variation I think would be cool
@@Throarbin I agree with you, but unfortunately we're in the minority. Players have been asking the Devs for Bosses and Biomes to provide access to all Class-Weapons/ Armor types, at all times, of which includes several Whips being added to 1.4.5. I agree that the experience should be slightly different for each Class-type as well, of which is kinda the case as of now, but this is also why I don't agree with adding any more pre-Mech Armor sets, because I think the experiance between pre-Hardmode and Hardmode should also be different. Pre-Hardmode is a more defensive experience and Hardmode is a more offensive one. The Devs actually got this part right, but we're effectively asking them to undo it...
if there's something I recommend doing next month, I think you should try a plantera speedkill, I did it with a forbidden armour hybrid build and it was a super fun activity in my own long-term world
I remember when you almost could not bear any more boredom pre-hardmode. It's incredible what the mech bosses add, and usually you fight each next boss faster and faster. The real experiment is just starting :)
your first point about the hardmode mining grind is why i love thorium so much, im pretty sure all the classes have different armors for those points in the game that require hardmode ore (aside from the anvil and forge)
I guess I'm a oddity in this community as I tend to take months to get through pre-hardmode, building and maxing my gear (i.e. shell phone, terraspark, full fishing gear, etc.) Then I usually hit a wall post-Plantera and continue in the same pre-hardmode vein
I've been hearing from several others who have said they also take their time. Some have said they have never beat the game and have been in pre hardmode for a year or more. It's insane XD
I do want to speed run the game as well, remembering that i already die TWICE post-Plantera phase on my Hardcore Master mode run. I do spend times there, but with a snap of fingers from an enemy, it can be gone. So now ima rush this third run a bit at least until i defeat Plantera again for the third time, hardcore mode. Nice story tho!

that destroyer death is the exact reason why i hate the shield of cthulu now and almost ran a crystal asssassin armor over it, with ankh shield i hate the bounce off enemies
A good way to farm gel is King Slime. I tend to get 2-300 from a single summon. Sure it takes a little bit a gel investment but it pays off in the end from my experience.
I think potions would really help in beating the old one's army, and considering the nature of this playthrough, I think you pretty much have the materials for every type of potion in the game.
gel problem? just craft a few king slime summons using 20 gel and a crown you will get more than 20 gel per king slime and his summons, the only thing you need to farm then is ruby and gold/platinum ore
I put ballistas and other things to take care of the flying enemies while I focused on the ground enemies for the Old One's Army. I plop a few on top of the crystal on a small island.
@@Throarbin Idk why I said ballistas, rather sentries, but I did start out with ballistas with the low level army. It depends which kind you use, some work better than others on the fliers, but it's important having them RIGHT over the crystal so they can take some down until you get back after dealing with the various grounds.
I discovered at some point that gastropods in the Hallow drop 5-10 gel per kill. After farming in the Hallow for a megaphone for a bit, I ended up with 600 more gel than before.
@@Throarbin surprisingly yes, i was trying a only flails run, and wanted the dripler for the destroyer but still decided to fight the destroyer with the Dei Pie and it just melted its health bar
building big arenas with cousin was such a fun time, we would build UNNECASSARILY large arenas. I'm talking like, two WHOLE BIOMES long. I'm pretty sure one time, we were fighting pumpking and we died because we went into SPACE that caused us to have low gravity 😂

Recently got a uzi early hard mode, and holy crap an unreal uzi shreds twins and skeletron Prime, it's like a mega shark with more accuracy and it really loves the hard mode bullets. Couldn't recommend it more, other than the crappy drop rate.

Haemo is pronounced "heem-oh" this is most evident with haemoglobin, a component of your blood which makes it red when oxygenated. But when you bleed, or haemorrhage(alternative spelling hemorrhage), it is pronounced "hem-oh", so the haemorrhaxe would be pronounced "hem-or-axe" which sounds a lot like hammer axe. That ae combination trips up a lot of people, it's Greek, so anytime you see ae like in Aegis you can know safely that it's "Ee-jis" while pronouncing it "ay-jis" because it sounds better LMAO

Terraria is definitely a game that takes some time to understand what you're supposed to do. Looking at the wiki for what bosses there are and how to summon them alone can help propel you forward. If you don't want to use the wiki, give things you've gathered to the guide and see what can be crafted. That can also give you some hints. Or if you have a friend, a first playthrough with a friend who knows the game is also a good idea.

1:20 The Flairon is 100% a flail because 1.4.5 will give it the spinning attack like other flails.... Flairon is also a mix between flail and fishron

One thing I noticed is that for destroyer it's good to have one of the slime mounts. You can bounce off him without taking any damage

I found something interesting about the bloody tear. If you use it before it turns night, it won't consume it, but it still spawns the blood moon.

you can make a slime/ slime staff farm by placing slime statues in a box witha shallow pool of lava and then hooking it up to a repeater

Great way to farm slime is by killing king slime or queen slime repeatedly. Queen slime is easier because her summon generates naturally.
Spawning in the king slime and just killing the summoned slimes is a good way to farm gel
I guess that could work. Will have to see how much gel I get since I don't want to burn through all my gold and rubies, lol

A good way to farm gel is King Slime. I tend to get 2-300 from a single summon. Sure it takes a little bit a gel investment but it pays off in the end from my experience.
I think potions would really help in beating the old one's army, and considering the nature of this playthrough, I think you pretty much have the materials for every type of potion in the game.

gel problem? just craft a few king slime summons using 20 gel and a crown
you will get more than 20 gel per king slime and his summons, the only thing you need to farm then is ruby and gold/platinum ore

I put ballistas and other things to take care of the flying enemies while I focused on the ground enemies for the Old One's Army. I plop a few on top of the crystal on a small island.

@@Throarbin Idk why I said ballistas, rather sentries, but I did start out with ballistas with the low level army. It depends which kind you use, some work better than others on the fliers, but it's important having them RIGHT over the crystal so they can take some down until you get back after dealing with the various grounds.
You can farm king slime for gel if you have a LOTE of platinum/gold

I discovered at some point that gastropods in the Hallow drop 5-10 gel per kill. After farming in the Hallow for a megaphone for a bit, I ended up with 600 more gel than before.

@@Throarbin surprisingly yes, i was trying a only flails run, and wanted the dripler for the destroyer but still decided to fight the destroyer with the Dei Pie and it just melted its health bar

building big arenas with cousin was such a fun time, we would build UNNECASSARILY large arenas. I'm talking like, two WHOLE BIOMES long. I'm pretty sure one time, we were fighting pumpking and we died because we went into SPACE that caused us to have low gravity 😂

Recently got a uzi early hard mode, and holy crap an unreal uzi shreds twins and skeletron Prime, it's like a mega shark with more accuracy and it really loves the hard mode bullets. Couldn't recommend it more, other than the crappy drop rate.
Oh yeah, the uzi is better than the mega shark easily. It's so rare though that I forgot you could even get it pre mechs

But when you bleed, or haemorrhage(alternative spelling hemorrhage), it is pronounced "hem-oh", so the haemorrhaxe would be pronounced "hem-or-axe" which sounds a lot like hammer axe. That ae combination trips up a lot of people, it's Greek, so anytime you see ae like in Aegis you can know safely that it's "Ee-jis" while pronouncing it "ay-jis" because it sounds better LMAO

Terraria is definitely a game that takes some time to understand what you're supposed to do. Looking at the wiki for what bosses there are and how to summon them alone can help propel you forward. If you don't want to use the wiki, give things you've gathered to the guide and see what can be crafted. That can also give you some hints. Or if you have a friend, a first playthrough with a friend who knows the game is also a good idea.
