Since I watch you guys, I bought a lot of things to tye steelhead and salmon flies. I just started to fish on a new section of my local salmon river with double handed rods. I really enjoy it. Problem (not really a big one cuz I love them) is that we have lot of pike too around here, and they love these big and colourful flies too, so I have to use thin wolfram wire leader because you never know. On the last weekend swing I fished a nice run where rocky fast current meets with nice and slow water, lot of slacks and seemingly pike love these areas too. I've caught 2 pike. 😂 In the end it is okay, you go home happy, even if they weren't salmon.
Nice, just answered the question I have been rolling over... what should I start tying for steel and salmon for this season? Especially something that won't need me to get too many materials I don't already have. (Running out of room) And believe it or not I already have the purple rabbit strips... the bulls down in OR seem to like purple. Thanks for the good content...
When you tie flies like that no wonder you get sweaty. I'm definitely in the sweaty fingers club. The loon d loop tweezers make a difference. I here they made a shorter version too....
Question if you don't mind - Where do you buy large guinea? I can't find any of the Jumbo feathers they used to sell, so I'm having trouble tying the Hoh Bo and other patterns that require larger feathers.
Thats is a nasty lookin fly!! The steelhead in the spring where i'm at will gobble it im sure! I would attempt a size 4# salmon hook version of this. I'm not ready for tube flies or similar articulated intruders yet.. Fish on!!
You’re ready for it! Nonsense! That size #4 will lose a lot more fish than this shank and a trailer hook. It finds its mark right in the corner of the mouth like a bead rig every time. No leverage from a big shank connecting right to the bend.
Sweet bug, definitely gonna have to tie up some of these. Do you ever fish some of the older patterns on your channel like the river rat squid or a graboid leech etc. just curious.
This seems to be some variant of egg sucking leech with a flashy look, sort of "prom dressing" egg sucking leech? lol the long shrimp eyes confused me though. Nevertheless, nice and beautiful fly!
My fly tying mentor once told me something that stuck over the years..."movement IS life". Your creations rocks movement big time!
I would agree immensely! Movement is key.
Looks hot for coho and kings. Switch out the orange for green and that's a hit too. Maybe even do a pink tip w/ pink and white for those pink years.
Yup you can tie them any color!!

Haha that’s still super cool! Awesome to be able to swing big fish in the swing no matter what

I don’t really use much guinea, can’t remember the last time I tied with it.
@@savageandsmith oh really? You're not tying Hoh Bos anymore?

Nope not really anymore, mostly just variations of this fly.
String leaches are kinda the best.

Sweet
Thanks!
Bro must cry every-time he gets snagged xD
Hahahahah believe it or not I rarely lose a fly. Light sink tips and swinging fast for aggressive grabs.

Haha thanks Steven! Yeah a whole mix of things for sure. The fish sure seem to want to kill it whatever it is.
Terrible fulming
Yeah it’s not the best
