I think you were unnecessarily rushing where there was no need. 19.18 there's no need to hold the stem with your arm and the saw in between. what's wrong with a step cut? And 21.09 you're just leaving your saw far too close to your arm again. Constructive criticism that's all! No offense intended.
My brother used to do that. I tried his climbing spikes one time about 35 years ago. I took one step busted my butt. I know that dude was wore out by time he got done with that one tree my hat's off to you
In what world does it make sense to cut the same limb twice? They first cut the limb about a foot out and then go back and cut it off close to the tree! Why not cut it off at the tree to begin with? Seems like it would save time, gas, and effort, not to mention the fact that now someone has to pick up two different parts.
Maybe he was worried about the branch hitting him if he cut from inside. Not to mention pine trees are sappy at the stem and could make it more difficult to control certain branches 🤷♂️. Just my guess though

Once saw a tree being cut like this one, but the first big branch that was dropped, took the solar panel off the roof of the house below......another one in the same neighbourhood dropped a big branch stem right through a skylight.....both were done by village idiots who never should have touched a chain saw, let alone climbed a tree....!
That caritool is not rated for hanging your saw. Get a shembiner. It’s similar to the caritool but it’s aluminum and it doesn’t have a gate. Look into it, it’s well worth it
So here is a legit question, as much as the trees swing, how do you know when you have climbed too high and the tree will not hold you. I am a bow hunter and have been in tall pines before and when the wind blows, I am afraid the damn tree is going to snap. Is it just a judgement thing bases off experience, or do you calculate width and know when not to climb any higher?
adamrecon Experience really and over all general health of the tree. And tree climbing being up that high on a removal it’s more about what size top can I rope or throw out safely. That determines how high we have to climb.

I guess live healthy pine tree is stronger than I think. But like I said, when I am up in them hunting in my stand, I feel like the things are going to snap. I am up in trees that I think are skinny and they are still 10-14 inches wide. Then I see you guys up there and the tree is 2-5 inches wide.
Try putting the saws loop handle in the caritool. You can get it out with one hand and you don't need to pull it up every time. :) good work as always!

Nick Hofmeister I have been using that caritool for many years even hang the 661 off of it, I have not had any problems with it.

I would suggest trying to keep 2 hands on the saw.. and to have your climb line around the stem, not the small branch.

I was always told 4 inch minimum tie off. Nothing under 4 inchs round ...or you go high enough to were you wanna top it.

Braden kingsley that caritool is not rated for hanging a saw. It’s only rated for carabiners and other small tools. Specifically NOT a chainsaw
