To be honest, I don’t think people should actually want flying cars. The reality of it isn’t as good as you would think. Imagine what 1 crash could do

Assuming they have the technology to make cars fly they definitely be able to make it to where they won’t/it’s incredibly hard to crash.
 What we don't have is the infrastructure for flying cars.Vertical take off/landing is difficult enough on vehicles meant to fly, and VTOL doesn't seem to be of great importance on the developmental flying cars.
For example. I live in a suburb of about 80,000 people. If I wanted to fly my car, I'd have to back out of my driveway, deploy the wings and tail (manually or automatically), taxi and then take off. The problem is the wings would clip parked cars, the power lines running down my street would present a problem and of course them pesky utility poles would cause an issue. So my other option is to drive it as a car to the airport and then use a runway. Paying $200,000 for a flying car and I still have to drive to the airport? Not really cost effective. Plus how do I not end up ramming into one of the other million people flying their car?
Licensing would have to be reworked, both driver's licenses and license plates. The crossover between aviation and driving licenses would be difficult. Our infrastructure and governmental procedures just aren't set up for it
