  • In her talk, Allyson Apsey, will share with us the importance of embracing all that comes our way. The human experience, as she says, “is about stumbling upon the fortunes of life and looking at every experience as a treasure-those moments that bring us more pain than we thought possible, more joy than we feel we deserve, and everything in between.” Allyson Apsey is an elementary principal, author, and national speaker who is passionate about students and staff, and leads others through their strengths. Despite the fact that she never wanted to set foot in a school again after high school graduation, there is nowhere else she’d rather spend her days than in classrooms. In fact, she doesn’t even have a chair at her desk because she is moving around the school all day long. The challenges and delights of being a principal fill her days with joy and Allyson enjoys nothing more than helping others be the very best they can be. Allyson is a mom to two wonderful sons and is celebrating her 20th wedding anniversary with her husband Jim this year. Allyson fully embraces the roller coaster of life, knowing that each up and down can help us get closer to the person we want to be if we look for serendipity in everything we experience. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I My life is full of Serendipity. It seems that there is an intelligence in us and around us and in the earth and all of nature. I always say aloud what I need and it manafests. Car breaks down on deserted highway, two miles from the neares exit. three kids in the car. And I say I really need and angel right now. withing a minute truck going the opposite direction pulls off the road and comes over. It is a mechanic and he calls the garage where he works. Ten minutes later we are towed and work begins on the car. An hour or so later it is up and running. I go on my journey and see that if I had not broken down I would have driven through a tornado that sent cars and trucks tumbing. Thank you to the angels, to the serendipity forces

This is a beautiful talk, and I really appreciate it. Though I feel like one or both of us don’t fully grok what serendipity is. I feel like this talk should perhaps be more about optimism but maybe I need a few rewatches.

None of what she's describing is serendipitous. She's just talking about appreciating the little things in life.

How would you describe serendipity instead?

Tedi Talks; Serendipity IS real. I’ve experienced it over and over again. Also, I’ve been shown many times REINCARNATION is real.. So, even though you might be afraid, do it anyway if it calls you, and learn your lesson. ❤️

Am I the only one that thinks this has nothing to do with serendipity? Being grateful and serendipity are two different things.

Uplifting video, but she fails to grasp the actual meaning of "serendipity."
The definition is about stumbling upon happy accidents and positive events. Merely forcing yourself to look on the bright side even during abysmal situations is not serendipity. While it can and usually does help promote a positive outlook, the case has been successfully made that doing so can also have negative effects. This includes underlying psychological issues for those who don't face head-on life's bitter disappointments or being adequately prepared for those darker times.
I still upvoted this, but the title and subject are misleading.
