China is being more assertive on the world stage. This is NOT the same thing as being more aggressive. Assertiveness is a positive quality. Aggressiveness is a negative quality.
Assertiveness means having conviction in your own beliefs and the confidence to act on those beliefs. One can be assertive and respectful and nonviolent. This perfectly describes the Chinese diplomats.

    • @michael511128
      @michael511128 ปีที่แล้ว

The reason US changed the word from aggressive to assertive is because most countries are standing with China and the US cannot handle international pressure so they backed off. On the other hand the US is still pushing for proxy over Taiwan with puppets Japan, UK and S Korea.

As I listened to Tangs Chek, I sobbed so much because this lady is right. I am a Zambian lady and was brought up to see China as our friend, zambia's friend, that is how I see China and the Chinese. This view has not changed in 40 years of my life and will never change. Europeans came to Africa and turned our world upside down, not China. China helped build the tazara railway line to enable my landlocked Zambia to export its copper to the world. At the time white aliens who had invaded southern Africa were in control and wouldn't allow Zambia to use the ports in what was black countries ruled by vicious racist European usurpers that nobody in Africa had ever invited. China was a friend in need to Zambia. Tangs you are my sister, I have adopted you as my sister, thank you for mentioning my nation of Zambia. Those Chinese people are still buried in Zambia they are part of our ancestors too. I will never ever say bad things about a country that never colonised a single African country. Long live China and the Chinese people.

As a Chinese, I do not buy into determining whether Taiwan should be a country based on historical bs. If the Taiwanese people really want independence it would be morally wrong to force them into reunification. Us Chinese people have been through so much oppression and we do not wish to exert oppression on others. The problem is, the Taiwanese people, especially the young generation, is so hopelessly brainwashed by the current western news that it is just sad to see them feel so strongly about independence based on falsified information they’ve been fed. They don’t even know who they are anymore.

They execute their own people for talking against the leaders. They practiced harvesting the organs of "law breakers" for years. There is no freedom for the Chinese citizens. We are so much better than the West at remembering and having the decency to honour the cultures we had learned important things from. In SE Asia we remember having learned from the Indian culture how to set up complex states, we remember Chinese and Arabs, etc. we even remember whatever we got from European colonisers despite the manner in which the knowledge arrived. When Europe and the US reacted to russia invading ukraine by saying it isn’t ok because ukraine is civilised but it’s ok for Syria and Iraq because those countries have always been ‘basket cases’ we defended them against European ignorance because we remember then from 1000+ years ago when they had the Golden Age of human civilisation. Others in the region, of course, remember for far longer, when they were the cradle of humanity’s complex civilisation.
But the difference with the USA is that all those cultures have the grace not to harp on it, which then makes possible the honour of gratitude. no one is gonna show gratitude to an already arrogant person.
Meanwhile, western Europe and Australia is racist towards Mediterranean Europeans, like Greeks and Italians, calling them ‘wogs’, even though this was the primary source of their high civilisation at least twice. Appropriating the civilisation from there but disrespecting the heirs of those people just because they’re poorer now or whatever. Who is the ungrateful people?

Don't see China's diplomacy as "assertive". The west is like the fireplace or double glazing salesman who will not leave until he has made the poor old elderly lady sign for windows and fireplace she can ill afford after much intimidation and browbeating. China's approach is to use word of mouth approach, using third parties, and product reviews. It's the see for yourself before you commit.

China's relations with the Global South are simply a continuation of its relations with the rest of Asia as well as the Middle East for thousands of years: it forged strong trading links with countries large and small, militarily weak and powerful. While it was much more populous and technologically more advanced than the countries surrounding it, for the most part it did not colonize them.
I read a Yahoo article today reporting on a Chinese shipwreck from around the year 1500 that was recently discovered on the bottom of the South China Sea. It contained large amounts of Chinese goods like porcelain as well as wood and other raw materials from Southeast Asia. This reflects what I pointed out above, that China traded with the peoples of the region rather than colonize them as Westerners would starting a century later.

The time of China's diplomatic assertiveness is long over, now is the time of China's diplomatic dominance because it talks and partners and unlike the USA does not threaten and exploit. China is leading globally diplomatically because it is more actively diplomatic and it no longer accepts being deceitfully diplomatically attacked and will defend against it.
What scares the USA is China leading global diplomacy and the USA losing diplomatic power, the reality in there of course, no longer able for force lies to ruthlessly exploit countries, huge loss in profits and the collapse of the imaginary US dollar, they have much to fear, the repercussions for their decades long abuse of the entire rest of the world.

a list of states that were bombed by the U.S. after World War II:
    - Korea and China 1950-53 (Korean War).
    - Guatemala 1954
    - Indonesia (1958)
    - Cuba (1959-1961)
    - Guatemala (1960)
    - Congo (1964)
    - Laos (1964-1973)
    - Vietnam (1961-1973)
    - Cambodia (1969-1970)
    - Guatemala (1967-1969)
    - Granada (1983) - Lebanon (1983, 1984) (hitting targets in the territories of Lebanon and Syria)
    - Libya (1986)
    - Salvador (1980)
    - Nicaragua (1980)
    - Iran (1987)
    - Panama (1989)
    - Iraq (1991) (Gulf War)
    - Kuwait (1991)
    - Somalia (1993)
    - Bosnia (1994, 1995)
    - Sudan (1998)
    - Afghanistan (1998)
    - Yugoslavia (1999)
    - Yemen (2002)
    - Iraq (1991-2003) (joint U.S. and British forces)
    - Iraq (2003-2015)
    - Afghanistan (2001-2015)
    - Pakistan (2007-2015)
    - Somalia (2007-2008, 2011)
    - Yemen (2009, 2011)
    - Libya (2011, 2015)
    - Syria (2014-2015)
There are more than 20 states on the list. China urged to "never forget who is the real threat to the world." Were there outrages from the Western community regarding the United States? Were there loud cries of indictment? Were there at least once sanctions against the United States?
All these hypocritical peace hawks sat quietly in one place when the United States, like a real bandit, is putting other countries through the nightmares. No outcry, no hint of reproach, no glimmer of outrage. Cowardly, shameless, hypocritical creatures! You would have to spit in everyone's hypocritical face and stick their nose in this list.

Very glad you covered these developments. Really wanted to give it two or three thumbs up. Found myself laughing because, as a hopeless geopolitics junky, I'd noted each of them independently with basically identical reactions... The kind one unfortunately don't often find in the vaunted halls of increasingly self-deluded FP think tanks. Especially outrageous (Nord Stream bombing aside of course) has been the new found attempt to turn NATO into a Pacific, anti-China surrounding force, all amid runaway additional military initiatives on top of the endless trillions (All in the last 5 years: the Quad, Aussie Sub deal, Nuke revamp program, Space Com, Cyber Com, New Aussie and Philippines bases, cheap F-15s for Erdogan...), and SWIFT, trigger-happy sanctioning of anyone who sneezes, all while we fulminate and foam about righteous rules and uprightness after 20 past years of 4 million innocent civilians slaughtered by our bombs in illegal wars across the globe. These antics drive even our friends into a frown. The new NATO Pacific charade turned my stomach almost as much as when one of Biden's officials recently announced on camera, in response to Bejing's 11 point roadmap for Ukraine (which read uncannily akin to Wilson's old 14), that Washington would be opposed to a cease-fire in that conflict (the public sometimes forgets that a cease-fire is when BOTH sides agree to stop killing for a while...In other words, the US was publicly stating that it would oppose allowing Ukraine to pursue one as a temporary relief measure. I think the US even has secret blackmail, 24/7 spying on, and threat mechanisms dangling above Zelensky, that it uses to dissuade him from attempting an independent negotiation).
China was on the right path with Belt and Road. However, they've kind of had to learn the hard way and have since passed a lot of limits on the loan programs that have the effect of... making them look a lot more like the IMF, but perhaps with slightly less pushy Bandit Capitalist policy stipulations for aid. I think the IMF folks in the know are kind of smirking and saying "told ya so." Also, PRC growth is facing lots of recent challenges with Xi Jinping being forced to play hasty cleanup for 3 decades of dangerous property bubble speculation and lack of sufficient regulation (though he himself has made 4 grave errors of wasting vast oodles of money on foolhardy efforts like persecuting Uyghurs, pursuing ZeroCovid, attempting to build Xiong An, and imposing a kind of digital Neo-Maoism). His new great record on novel diplomacy in the middle east, hopefully in Ukraine, and positively in S. America, is greatly encouraging but I worry that his nation will not have the resources in the immediate term to follow through with solidifying this new role. In the long term, however, China's rise could be the very gift that will allow the US to survive: by rendering its suicide by runaway military overextension unfeasible... however, judging from many past examples, the elites of late empires only dig down harder, spend more flagrantly, flail about more desperately as their fiefdoms gradually and then rapidly begin to slip away from their grasp, accelerating rather than forestalling their decline.
Examples: Imperial Spain (their misguided actions in the late 19th Century are ominously redolent of US foreign policy today), the Soviet Union, Rome, the Qing Dynasty, the Babylonian empire, the Mongolian Empire.
We should also remember that many great orders are most blazing at the 3/4 to 4/5 point in their longevity timeline: Rome was at its architectural zenith at 350 AD. The Soviet Regime was at its maximum power reach only 15 years before its dissolution.
If anything, I see the US's future as being drearily similar to that of Russia: led about by cynical, self-adulatory demagogues, who mix superficial conservative reaction with pathetic revaunchist grasping at former (but phantasmagoric) glory to compensate for honor offended (and crush internal dissent pursuing reform).
