  • On a cold December day high up on Mount Tallac in the Tahoe region, backcountry skier John Morrison lies gravely injured. With his core temperature starting to drop, his only hope to make it off of the mountain alive is a daring, high-elevation, aerial rescue by the California Highway Patrol’s Air Operations unit and the Truckee Tahoe Regional Rescue Team.

Thank you for the service that you provide to us! As a new backpacker, I would hope I never need you, but it’s a huge relief to know hat you’re there! Stay safe out here!

Really bad advice at the end. ALWAYS carry a cellphone AND a rescue beacon, not a cellphon or a beacon! Also a map and compass are basically useless and a waste of valuable time in a rescue situation. Always have a map downloaded on your phone and make sure it is charged.
