Who are “they?” Would you say the same about “they” or “them” or “those” in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina who experienced massive flooding because of a recent hurricane in the US? Or the massive flooding which killed at least 229 people in Valencia Spain recently? These are acts of nature. Show some compassion and intelligence.
There's no way to stop that sort of flooding just by improving drainage. That's like saying the 2004 tsunami could've been stopped by building a wall along the whole west coast of Phuket.
Every hotel I stayed, in my 4 months in Laos was run by Vietnamese. China and Vietnam have reciprocal work visa agreements with Laos, guess with them all being neighbouring fellow communist countries. Was still surprised how many Vietnamese and Chinese were there in a population of only 7 million. They weren't so common when I was there 20 years earlier.

@@timnewtontoday There's no free lunch anywhere; particularly in the midst of monsoon. Not flooded yet, but plenty are already under water. It's less than a block away. We used to live directly opposite a Cat Cafe, but it was a fad whose popularity lasted about 2 months, as is usual.

A new café opened in Pattaya earlier this year: Creep & Crawl, which has a number of snakes and pretty big spiders in glass cases, on which one rests a coffee cup. The owner allows handling of the snakes, but forbids cuddling the tarantulas😆 I can hold a snake but am repulsed by those fish spas that are popular currently😝

Whilst not suggesting that it is impossible that the backpacker hostel manager could adulterate the spirits, it is equally possible that he bought the spirits in good faith from a supplier who did. I wish I had more faith that the right people will get prosecuted.
It could've also been badly produced spirits, rather than adding the methanol later. Likely was using very cheap locally made spirits to provide free shots to so many people at a minimal cost.
Fish cafe.. I thought it would be one of those fish foot spa things where the fish would nibble the dead skin off your feet, but I suppose not.. I don't think carp would do that. These spas were all the rage 10-15 years ago. I remember a chain of them around KL that had, for some reason, a tank with a baby shark in it outside the entrance (these were in malls). Once I asked the lady at the door whether they had little sharks inside to bite at people's feet..
Thank you. I remember those years when we just had crazy fun. We just thought bad stuff happened to others. Actually, maybe we didn't really think - just had fun!!! And here it is & at 73yrs - I still remember those years fondly. P.S. I do remember stopping one night & thinking how it would bring heartbreak to my Mother (& Father) if something happened to me. I calmed down a bit at that time. And of course there have been sleepless nights with our own children. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of these young people.
