  • the first “Strength Through Music” (from my first solo album Who Killed Amanda Palmer), was shot on location at and featuring students from Lexington High School, Lexington, Massachusetts, USA. the original video was filmed as a response to the mass shootings at columbine high school. people were shocked and horrified at columbine, and gun laws didn’t change. newtown happened, and laws didn’t change. since then, school shootings have become regular. commonplace.part of “life”. there is a school shooting in the US ALMOST EVERY DAY. it’s got to stop. we made this new version of the song and video, featuring the names of those murdered at marjory stone man douglas high school - and newtown elementary, and columbine high school - as a response to this ongoing insanity. the thousands of dollars that this remix will earn on my patreon page will all be donated to March For Our Lives (www.marchforou...) which is taking place on march 24th, and the song is also available on bandcamp for $1 - all of that money will be donated to the march as well. i hope it helps. we have had enough. #NeverAgain

Man, as a Parkland resident and as someone who used to attend MSD, this hit me hard. The message is so important, thank you Amanda.

Hey, this really hit hard- I had a few friends in the schools that were recently victims of shootings. If I had money to spare I would send it to the organisation in a heartbeat- I just hope and try my best to help out those around me who struggle, and may do something like this if untreated. Luckily none of my friends were harmed, but to see someone like you, an idol stand up for children in a generation where rebellion stops the love, and promotes the violence- it just- means so much. My school and others near have been on their toes, and knee deep in threats of violence. Actually, our school was even in lockdown all of yesterday- and it was absolutely terrifying. This year there have been more school shootings that I can count on my fingers, and that's not okay. This generation of people is left so untouched and so babied in the wrong ways that we unintentionally leave out the people who need help.. I hope that everyone here watching this video and reading this comment is safe and will be, and gaining the right information and forming the right opinions. You can't solve violence with violence. Thank you Amanda, for having this video reposted like this, for everyone to see once again- because this is truly an issue that seems to be overlooked in the worst times.

This album itself is timeless and i feel sorrowful for those who can't hear its genius. This album helped define my teenage years and it still resonates today.

I remember tragedy hit our school when a beloved teacher committed suicide. I remember columbine triggering bullies to call in fake threats and say they were other students. I remember all the lack of empathy and disregard for life over the years and it kills me inside. Then I remember the people who do care, like you, who spread the message of love and honestly it makes life seem just a little less hopeless and I am so grateful.

When I saw this video 2 years ago I was oblivious to what this video symbolized. Now that I am 15 and I now realize what this video is, I am happy to see Amanda speak out against school shootings. There have been many threats where at my school and at a middle school near me right now. Even though it's scary, I won't accept it, but I would do everything in my power to stop another one from happening. Even if I die doing it

ultragaze Well it is but my first time seeing this video I wasn't sure what Columbine was. No one ever talked about it and no one ever told me. I really feel like in schools there should be more safety precautions instead of the ones we have now. The other day I had an assembly about safety and if this ever happened to my school and the whole time there was a security guard on his phone! If I have to leave my life in his hands just because he didn't want to pay attention to this 30 minute assembly, I'm doomed

Same. It was incredibly touching, and, to be completely honest, I don't know why teens and young adults do these kinds of things, I mean, what happened to the want for world peace?

holy shit wow. I vividly remember when WKAP first came out. I was in 8th grade and I made an afternoon of watching all the videos and I remember this one making me feel so scared and uncomfortable when I first saw it, but looking back, that may have been the first time I can remember actively thinking- "maybe you need to sit in discomfort. maybe *why*it makes you uncomfortable is a more important point". So thank you Amanda for teaching me in that moment that discomfort and fear are valuable emotions that need yo be examined on a personal level and can spark real action. You rock, I'm glad my HS senior quote was from you

Amanda, I don't remember how I came across it, but I saw this video a long time ago. I lived in Colorado and was twenty one when Columbine happened. It hit me hard then in the hysteria following the shooting, when everybody was blaming Marilyn Manson and the stupid video games. Today, my kids are twelve and fourteen. I see my daughter and her friends in those halls, and it's terrifying.
Seeing this again, eighteen years after the original tragedy, with the same message and hearing more names in the space behind the music... knowing that we still have the same basic problems, the same to lose, and have done practically nothing... this guts me.
Seeing it again after a different tragedy... this makes a whole new point beyond the first, effectively and urgently.
Thank you for this, Amanda. I love you and what you do.

If you want to find out what the actual problem is, which would likely morph into a different deadly form if you attempt a wrong solution, I'd suggest starting with interviews of the murderers and of the wannabes who were apprehended in time. There has been a lot of talk, but very little understanding.

As a non-American, I still felt the students and the pain and fear so much in this video. It's simple and beautiful and tragic and I deeply hope that the mass shooting will be the last one Americans will hae to face and that changes will come. The world is crying and hoping for you. Love.

From the safety of a country that made the right choices when confronted by these same challenges I send my love and care and hope that the USA can grow into a safer more compassionate society that makes better choices than it has so far.
I am so sorry for the harm that has been done to the young and yet I hope that as the survivors reach voting age they take over the political process and change the world.

Being born on April 20 sucks. I share my birthday with Hitler and the Colombine Massacre. And then there's all the idiots going 420 huh huh huh... without realising that referred to a time, not a date.
This song is beautiful... but doesn't change my wish to have a different b'day.

I hate my birthday date as well and chose to celebrate my birthday on a different day. My family accepted my wish and most of my friends don't even know it's not my real one since it's been a few years. Maybe that would be an option for you, too? Otherwise as Amanda says, fuck it. Love!
