Fun story: the first time I ever heard “The Mess Inside” was that episode of “I Only Listen To The Mountain Goats, on a day trip to Vermont with my soon-to-be-ex, when we were already on the rocks. We were trying to figure out what to put on to fill the awkward silence, saw the episode description and were like “oh sweet, we love Amanda, this’ll be great!”
🤣🤣🤣
This song gives me the chills every time I hear it. And the backstory behind it is even better.
I only listen to the mountain goats!!
I cried when I heard this on the podcast, and it gets me every time.
Pls more covers of mountain goats stuff? My two favorite artists doing anything together makes smile so much
Chad Eichhorn If you’re looking for more Mountain Goats covers, you can check out the podcast I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats, the project for which this song was recorded. Each episode talks about a different song on the album All Hail West Texas, and has a cover. There’s an episode with this covet in it.
"That felt like a take."
"That felt like a take."
Fantastic.
thumbs up for not accidentally dance kicking the baby.
The story behind this video is so beautiful and impulsive. I love this.
There’s no way to ignore this song. No way to miss the dancing. No way to soften the vibrations. GURL. This is good.
When I heard this on the podcast, I wildly cheered in my car because of how hard you guys killed that. Chills forever, dudes.
Definitely my favorite cover from the podcast. I FELT FEELINGS! So many of them. Beautiful video and I loved hearing the story of how this all just came together.
i love amanda palmer and i love the mountain goats, this version of the song kicks absolute ass
I was totally lost when at first I see only a few people and then more popped up -- since I'm watching the dancer and I'm thinking "where you there the whole time!??"
I hate how hippies dance they rui n everything
what’s the point of your comment?
This is the awesomest family ever.
Does anyone else get the feeling that they recorded this outdoors because of the Mess Inside?
aaaaaaaaah!!! Amanda covering John is what I've always dreamed of!!!!!!!
Super Song❤
I love oddball songs like this, actual topic is a sad one of sorts but the music is unavoidably energetic and happy.
Better to listen to this when sad than a purely sad sad song in down moments?
So good I have been going nuts waiting for this video after the I only listen to the mountain goats video and it was worth it most of that dance was intense and worked well kinda down hill towards the end but for something so spontaneous absolutely amazing
P.s. crazy this was done in his a couple hours
That was INTENSE.
Julien Destange I'm subscribed to your channel. I had no idea you were an Amanda fan. She's the reason I play uke, and you're the reason I know how to play New Dawn Fades and Love Will Tear Us Apart. It's such a small world.
This is bloody wonderful. Just so spontaneous and beautiful and full of life and the presence of the baby and the dancer amid a song of such adult sadness is just... well, YES... Yes.
This video! ❤️❤️I had never listened to the mountain goats before but I'll do now! Also can't believe that my favorite podcast makers and my favorite musician are collaborating! 😃
I love Amanda Palmer
Everything about this video was absolutely beautiful!!!
Amazing song and awsome to see somebody dance like that
Love the Mountain Goats. Nice Cover.
I can not tell you how happy I was that this was posted online!
New videooo YAAAAAAY, was literally listening to this already haha :)
This is so beautiful. I am in tears. Love love love
Amazing.... absolutely amazing 🤲❤️
that baby is so entertained
wow this video saved my soul.
Everything pulled together so well. Thanks.
Thankyou Patrons and thankyou artists xoxo
God damn, I love how the singers just pop up like that. Did they have to lie down to do that.
Love!
I was just listening to the original, and I wondered why it was familiar. And now of course I'm crying.
this just amazes me :3 Wonderful and sincere, thank you x
This is so beautiful! 💜
beautiful! i love it
Love it, but I would so love to hear an original soon. I was hoping this was an original, until I saw the comments. Your own songs are so, so inspiring. But anyway, you covering the mountain goats is honestly a great match.
so cute
so much good
love love love
holy shit
Lol, I'm convinced the dancer was on acid. Also, I thought for a moment that she was gunna kick that baby in the face XD. Wonderful video, loved it.
:') so beautiful
This is sooooooooooooooooooooo fucking awesome
This song either version reminds me of me and my wife so much. Not that were in a marriage that's falling apart. Just our house is a tip.
Lovely video. Underutilized greenhouse.
Fucking perfect.
Who is the dancer on this video? I should read in the intro... And what Album is this song on?
I find if funny, Amanda, on the cut down version of this that gets rid of the thing at the beginning, all the comments are mostly negative, but on this full music video version, almost all the comments are positive, Hmmmm.
Oriyo it's the internet, give it time :D
i almost killed myself to this song but (spoiler alert) i didnt. love the song though. it doesnt bring back any bad memories its just really nice now
Well, I thought this was awful. But glad you all liked it.
Who hurt you?
@@mewho6199 Maybe nobody did. Maybe this can be just taken at face value: people *are* allowed to not like something *and* say so; no need to critique them for doing so. 😒 #jussayin
I love this song.
I hate this vocalist.
I love this video.
Ick.
slapdash and sloppy.
Yes, and?
Everything this Amanda Palmer does is terrible. Not some things. Everything.
Agreed.
would've enjoyed it more without the dancer outside tbh
