- The scale-less koi carp will typically have a row of scales on their back at the base of the dorsal fin and frequently have another row of scales along the midsection of the carp's body known as the lateral line. See this example up close as the fish is removed from the water for display. The Doitsu or scale-less koi carp looks like a true piece of art, as if colors were painted on a smooth canvas.

One of my bronze koi sculptures is currently featured on the cover of the KOIUSA magazine cover (sept/oct 2015) The koi is 27 inches, which is a bit too large for some bronze collectors; therefore, I plan to produce smaller bronze koi sculptures. Especially the doitsu variety after viewing this video. Keep up the awesome work on your videos.
Great video. You guys should come out to Georgia and visit my friend's koi. He own Grand Koi and has an amazing collection (one of the best in the Western Hemisphere). My fiancé and I plan on having him build a pond for us as well. Cheers.

I bought a koi today from a Petsmart that resembles the ones in the video as far as having just the large scales on the sides but is not the same colors. Can other colored koi be scale less? He's more of a yellow gold/silver color.
Yes scaleless koi can come in lots of colors
Shouldn't scaleless not be propagated? Why do reptile and fish and whatever breeders want deformities and abnormalities? What do the Japanese purest breeders think of this? Should I ask Mistake Koi or can you help sir.
Trying to learn all the types of koi fish I have...I have a all white butterfly koi.. Some scales are not there an others ones are bigger.. Looks shimmery pearl.. Is there any where I could send you pictures of so maybe you could help me... I have looked them up an just want to make sure I know what I have..I have eleven koi all together two are Metallic one is all white and the other one is yellow and white.. Thank you
I think that would be a doitsu gin rin butterfly koi.
So... why doitsu koi didnt win championship? Some people say their size will not be as large as koi with scale... is it true?

I have an all white doitsu no scales at all. Not one is that rare. I literally put it in my hand to feel for scales. But he has none. He's beautiful tho. My favorite

Do koi fish / goldfish breeders keep these MUTT fish?
The spotted mixed colour is the worst look possible
Thats the tradition to get it multi colored. They breed calico cats the same way. Personally I prefer the symmetry which is why most of my koi are symmetrical but each their own.
