Obviously Mariah is the QUEEN of melisma, vocal technique and just overall agility,
But a lot of people don’t give her the credit she deserves for being a genius of vocal melody arrangement.

I have to say,
This is my first visit to your channel.
I’ve spent countless hours arguing Mariah’s vocal ability with stubborn commenters, (mostly whether Whitney Houston was better as a technical singer because she had stronger mid belts) but I feel like only another professional singer can truly understand.
People like you and I.
I’m a singer and I was also in a relationship with a woman Opera singer who studied under the Opera singer and teacher, Joanne Koehn. (If you haven’t heard of her, please look her up online)
Anyway, hearing the informed opinion of someone who is well versed in Opera, the harshest analysts of the technicalities of vocals, is refreshing.
@@adnap I think comparisons are interesting. They can be so informative when trying to highlight specific techniques and what may or may not work for the singer/ listening. However, I don't understand comparing to prove a point of "who is better." At the end of the day, it's a subjective statement so there's no need to be argumentative/negative about it.
That being said, I'm glad we can relate on the analysis level. Thank you for your compliments!

This is actually my music channel where I do various covers and there are all kinds of different genres represented within.
I’m not classically trained or taught, but I have natural ability.
I’m also not as warmed up as I was before all of this indoor living.
I’m sure I could be better if I had a vocal trainer, so please bear that in mind should you decide to venture there.

I’m not 100% sure on this, as I’d have to do a lot of research, but I believe Mariah’s lowest note ever was an E2, which is ridiculous. But did you know that her highest was a C8 ? (Yes, that’s right, the last note on a piano.

what i really love is your thorough explanation of technique. Mariah's voice can be thought of as mysterious because of the nodules she later developed, and people like to write her off as having been a singer with bad technique and just natural ability. I don't believe that at all. Clearly to produce the sounds she does consistently, she has to have a certain level of mastery of technique... To hear someone break it down, is very refreshing.
I'm glad I could help, even in the slightest! Her voice is incredible and it always amazes me how quickly people dismiss singers. We're humans and change is inevitable. But respect should be given where it's due, and she absolutely deserves so much respect for the music she's given over her career.
Her mother said she actually had nodules since she was a little girl! So it’s natural that her voice isn’t the same. She’s still one of the greatest singers to this day though and you should check out some accapellas she posted on her Instagram a few months ago.

She had nodules as a kid and just learned to sing around them giving her a very unique sound when she wants. Imagine a Mariah Carey nodule free in her prime! 😳😳
Literally no one has managed to cover this song in original key as in this performance, which by the way is much better than the studio version.

This is my all time favorite performance of Mariah! She was beyond perfect!
Mariah was the best of the best in her vintage years ('90 - '94)! She had boundless talent and coupled that with raw emotion. I remember the very first time I ever heard her voice way back in 1990 and I recall thinking, "I've waited my whole life to hear her voice". 30 years later, I still feel the same way. Great video by the way. You really know what you're talking about.

This was her peak. I can’t honestly say that I’ve ever heard her sound this amazing ALL LIVE with no prerecorded vocals. Her confidence was through the roof.

You were so generous with your comments and I do appreciate that. You explained about the delivery of her vowels and I needed that because I didn't know how to do that on my own, I am merely a listener. She sings with such a pronounced sensitivity that It sometimes causes me to tear up. No female singer reaches the core of my soul quite like Mariah, and at times it seems as though she is singing to each audience member individually and not as a group. I would suggest to you that you listen to her singing this on MTV unplugged, it's a wow. Once again, THANK YOU!
Great comment. Mariah and I are born in the same year so I grew up with her and song all her songs in the past. I was in a choir for many years and she was an inspiration to try your vocal strength and breath length. Lovely to hear her soul growl at the last part. Feels good to be back.

You wanna know the crazy part, I literally had NO idea about the term "lambs" 🤦🏾♀️. I grew up listening to her albums on CDs as a kid/teenager and have just been a fan since the first time I heard her. But I found out about that term when I posted this video and read some comments. Yea! Of course the jaw is going to move, it's so silly to think it won't. It's only an issue to me if the jaw movement is the primary reason the notes are able to come out. Otherwise, it's completely normal
