@@jenniferstrickland3157 We had one plan--original Medicare. Which we still have, BTW. But then the insurance companies (both for profit and non-profit) wanted in on the goodies and promised they could offer more for less money. And since we have a lot of Americans (see some of the comments here) who believe that private is ALWAYS better than government, they came up with a hybrid system which is insanely complicated and does not serve us well. Especially as we age and have more and more difficulty dealing with complexity. But it's what a certain segment of Americans think will "protect" them from the government and that highly-paid insurance executives know they need to keep in place so their high salaries also stay in place.

I feel so bad for seniors. I am an agent and I will NOT sell this UNTIL I fully understand what I am selling to my clients. I want to understand the plans inside and out! I want to be able to answer every question for my client to get them the best plan for their situation/needs. And also I must understand the drug plans, which are separate from the health plans. Not to mention EVERY year seniors, you should re evaluate your plan, or trusted agent should help you(I hear too many stories of agents not doing that) These health plans and drugs can and do change every year so you need to be informed and sometimes the insurance carriers will drop the plan and you MUST pick a new one. Also, us agents have to know the very specific rules on selling these plans for Medicare Advantage. A good agent needs to be very knowledgeable and really want to help their clients, not just sell a plan and then disappear. I am here learning all I can and maybe by the fall of 2020 I will be ready! Be safe everyone!

Nice. Will you be my agent? The one that set me up for an Advantage Plan did not do what I asked for...I wanted a PPO and she had me signed up for an HMO. I have spent the last year waiting to get referrals for specialists...it has been brutal. To wrap it up, every specialist and doctor I have seen this year have said they never heard of Care Plus.

I am looking for a PPO in Puerto Rico and it’s a nightmare. I do not want to keep any known plan if they push me in anything. I do not want to forcefully get a primary doctor because I will not be faithful to no one. It’s my right to not visiting whom I don’t want to. Not interested and I am not in the disposition to depend on him or her to see a specialist. Forget it. And the complementary of Medicare on the other hand seems to be very expensive. But how much could that be? I want a medical plan, a wide one not one offering gifts and crap to convince me of anything. I just want to know how much could be having Medicare with a complementary that would cover dental and hearing at least. I am sick and tired of regular medical plans.

Turned 65 and have had so much more anxiety over health insurance. This should not happen. I was forced to go on Medicare. That is how I feel. I am paying more for the premium now than before I was 65 in the Market Place. I am paying more for doctor visits co-pay. Why? I should not be paying more since I turned 65. This is wrong! I am learning since I am new to Medicare and so far, I am so mad, upset, and to the crying stage because of all of the out of pocket costs. Drain what money I do have so I am poorer. What kind of system is this? I am so frustrated since turning 65 in 2020. Add this frustration to everything else that is happening in the U.S. and this is anxiety and frustration overload. If you have Medicare A and B (Advantage Plan), who or what can help lower the costs or help pay for the monthly premium, extra co-pays, deductibles, increased insane prescription costs? Yes, this is insane. No wonder seniors are not happy unless they are rich! Over my frustration, I have been told: Welcome to Medicare. It is not the least bit funny.

I feel your pain, as I am just about to become Medicare eligible. Similar to you, my question is and always has been why am I "forced" to some form of Medicare at this stage of my life? If I'm happy with my current non-Medicare coverage and its associated costs, why on earth should I have to change from this to lesser coverage that is more expensive? Makes no sense to me, but I'm the paying consumer, not the profiting recipient of said payments. Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of companies making profits...just not exorbitant and excessive ones!

The best source for assistance is with volunteers from your state Dept of Insurance/Council on Aging, etc. In Indiana, that is SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program); in Florida, "SHINE" and so on. We are in every state. You can determine the program in your state by contacting either SS or Medicare. We are trained volunteers, not aligned with any insurance company or product. Free, neutral advice to help you through the maze of options. Consider there are 20-30 prescription drug plans, the same number of Medicare Advantage Plans and 8 standard Medigap or Medicare supplement plans offered by around forty companies. Think of your odds. This is after you determine what option or options are best for you at retirement...or each year, during Open Enrollment, for that matter. Seek unbiased assistance for your choices.

I've worked with computer programs most of my adult life and have NEVER run across something as difficult as this - even the website makes it difficult to get the information you need. Those with any mental decline will NEVER get or find what they actually need this way. Tried to get information for my mother (in her 90's) and almost forgot what we wanted when holding on to the phone for 55 minutes waiting for the call to be handled. She waste a whole day at the office waiting for her number to be called, only to find that she had to do something else or didn't bring the correct information with her. What happened to all those things that were supposed to simplify the procedure?

It is confusing because scammers are cannibalizing Medicare via their "privatization" scams. That is what these plans are, do NOT let them pretend they are private insurance, they are NOT - privatized companies actually bill the federal government and enrich themselves that way, because they know that the federal government can issue ANY AMOUNT of money for anything that is physically possible, so they can bill for massive exec salaries and insanely high profits. Wall Street firms invest, knowing that profits are guaranteed via federal money.
Meanwhile, most of us have believed that taxes fund the federal government, and believed the lies and fearmongering the corrupt have told us about the national "debt" (it is NOT an actual debt), and deficit, etc. And that somehow this country "can't afford' good things that about 30 other countries have!
Here is an econ expert to explain how EASILY we can have full healthcare coverage all our lives, as other countries have done.
      mythfighter.com/2019/01/24/if-you-could-provide-free-comprehensive-healthcare-to-everyone/
However, our corrupt scammers have been going after many other countries and cannibalizing many systems so they can take over with their scam of "privatization" and enrich themselves with government money from those countries, too! That is why you hear of more problems, like with the NHS in the UK which is still far better than what we have, but they are intentionally reducing govt money and privatizing parts of it. That is what the scammers have done here to Medicare, the Post Office, public schools, the VA, etc, which were all fully NATIONALIZED systems that worked well until the 70s when the greedy hijacked government in order to do their scam as well as to bust unions, repress wages and squash people power.

MC is a typical government ran program. Starts out easy and affordable which appeals to the public and gets the program bill passed. Once it's a law our politicians, insiders and bureaucrats go to work on it over time and under cover. Making it more complex, expensive, difficult to use is the typical government approach. You can't possibly find the time or help to fully understand the crap that ends up being the law. Of the people, for the people and by the people has become for the politicians and their buddies. We have some in DC striving to make things better, simple and affordable but they are attacked by the bureaucratic jungle. Look what they try to do to Trump. Our beloved country is being assaulted from the inside and outside and slowly being led towards destruction.

I've been trying to get my Korean wife enrolled through Medicare. However, since I am a retired service member in Korea and my wife is Korean they said I have to go through the US Embassy in the Philippines. I started in March 2021 and some of the delay was sending certified mail to Manila. I did that through a military postal service. It took a month to get to Manila, the Philippines and sat there for 3 months due to a lock down. Finally around October the Medicare section in Manila said all the correct paper work was done and was sent to the US for processing.
My wife still hasn't received anything and now it has been 11 months and 2 weeks since we have started. I contacted Medicare in the US but they said I have to check with the US Embassy in the Philippines. However, the US Embassy says they have to wait for Medicare to finish in the US.
Talk about lazy, worthless and incompetent people. As a retired US Army service member, I was proud to serve my country. My only regret is that we also serve and protect those who could care less about us.

I've been on Original Medicare for 13 years. I have a PPO as I wanted to choose my own doctors and not have to wait for a referral. This option covers Hospital (A) and Medical (B) expenses 80%. In addition, I have a supplemental insurance, Blue Shield of CA which is my husband's Union. The supplemental insurance pays the remaining 20%. It was necessary or me to add Part D for prescriptions as the Union's prescription coverage is non-credible. At this point in my life, I have been healthy and doctor's visits are mainly for follow up and lab work. I pray my health stays that way. The supplemental offers Dental/Vision at a discount premium. @Marktuyet Which part do you find complicated? The misconceptions surrounding Medicare comes from where Medicare Beneficiaries get educated on the 2 Medicare options. And, who they Trust with their Medicare Insurance. Agents/brokers/Companies are competing for your business to a fault because marketing a brand or plan adds to the confusion and can down right feel overwhelming to most Medicare Beneficiaries.
The best way millions of Medicare Beneficiaries have found peace of mind is having a licensed and trusted Medicare advisor not only educate with the "Medicare and You handbook" that is written by the government but also have the advisor become your advocate each and every year. Meaning, they will help to update you on the changes that happen with Medicare and also review your #MedicareSavings and Options each and every year after. Its all about trust. There are many very good Medicare Insurance brokerages and firms out there who are able to shop the market for you. I hope this helps

Having people like that just adds to the confusion (where do I find such a person, how do I know I can trust him/her, how do I deal with this when I hit the stage that I no longer really grasp details) and to the costs of providing health care--those advisor have to get paid from somewhere. Either they're paid by the insurance companies who then build that cost into what they charge or are paid out of pocket. Why? And review every year? I've taken care of these things for my elderly parents and parents-in-law and with every year it got harder because their conditions changed (of course) and their ability to understand declined. There are several programs in place to help low income seniors pay for premiums for part B and D. If they have previously been assessed a penalty and they qualify for this help the penalty goes away. Help with part B premiums comes through their state and they must apply for the help through DHS (at least in Oklahoma). Some seniors apply for SNAP or for Medicaid health coverage but don’t make sure to apply for the premium help. I’m a licensed health agent in Oklahoma that only works with medicare recipients and I can tell you from personal experience that many seniors do not know they can apply for this help. I start every appointment with asking about income levels for this very reason. They can also get help through social security, called “extra help”, with their part D premiums. Information on this, including income amounts for qualification, can be found on the medicare site. Unfortunately, many seniors that I work with don’t use computers so it’s vitally important that any health insurance agent they work with understand these programs are out there and help them apply for them. It can be life changing!

Its so confusing! And the system is backward! While I worked I paid $11 a month for state health insurance. Now with a disability and nearing retirement my health problems will beggar me! My sister who has great retirement also has VA benefits in addition to her Medicare and can afford the extra expense. I am on a very fixed income and can't afford it. Why do we penalize our seniors for growing old?

      Mr. Fischbach:
Will you please, explain the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medigap Plan. I need to prepare much better when my retirement time comes.
What about those seniors that are already retired and confused especially, those who lives alone. Not all of them are in good shape physically or mentally. I know a case that has no children and her related doesn't care about her. I'm doing the best I can for her but, the law limit my efforts to her because I'm not related. Thanks to the Lord she's mentally healthy and brite and very positive about life. She's a very nice lady. I'm worried about her lower back (pinch nerve and sciatic nerve, both). She never give up and move on.
Once she said to me " While my heart and brain are happy, I am too". She's a true warrior. May be because she's part of the armed forces family because of her father and husband. Both passed away.
Thanks for your orientation to senior people. Today is for them and tomorrow will be for us. Many blessings to you and yours...

The problem is that Medicare has been corrupted since the 70s by "privatizers", who devised scams to access federal money when the US went off the gold standard. They understood that doing so meant that the federal government could issue ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY for anything that is physically possible. They of course fo not want the public to know this! But that is why they began to privatize prisons, public schools, infrastructure, etc. First they used excuses (lies) to reduce federal funding to these and other things they wanted to control, then when people complain, they push their scam solution.
Most people know ZERO about federal money, because the elites wanted us 'peasants' clueless. But these additional/supplemental plans are NOT private, they are privatIZED, too very different entities! People running any privatized company get to bill the federal government any amount, providing massive exec salaries and insanely high profits. Wall Street firms invest, knowing that profits are guaranteed via federal money. It is a massive racket, and the scammers took it global in the 70s, corrupting other countries so they could embezzle government money to enrich themselves from those countries, too! The UK, Australia, NZ and Canada were their first targets - the CIA actually helped oust a decent Prime Minister in Australia in 1975 who obviously said NO to the corruption.
So when these people say "private" insurance, it is actually NOT true - these companies do not run like car insurance companies, solely on premiums that people pay, they have access to federal money to bill the government whatever they want.
Because this is all part of the corruption scam, you can typically find the supplemental insurance companies on the stock market, or ask who owns them - like I found out that Optimum has now been bought by Anthem. When you check the CEO pay and profits, it is astounding - I know for our current major healthcare companies of our ACA ("Obamacare", which was a sellout to the corruption scam and is a totally privatized system), those multimillion dollar CEO salaries and billions in profits - even quarterly! - do NOT come from premiums people pay!
Our war companies are privatized, by the way - have been since WW2 at least, which is why we have always heard about crazy overcharges in the military, like $800 hammers, etc. Until I learned more about a country's economics from professors of economics for the past 3 years, I always wondered how and why this happened. Now I know that it is how the scam was devised, no real oversight. Anyone that gets singled out is just to pretend that there IS some oversight - I suppose when they throw someone under the bus it may be personal revenge, or someone wants to take over the company. But knowing the scam shows us why BOTH PARTIES lie us into wars and vote for massive war money, equal to the total of the next 13 countries budgets for military combined! The 'extra amounts' are money in bank accounts, just like the "extra cost" of healthcare in the US is money in the bank accounts of the FEW, which is why the corrupt lue and fearmonger us NOT to go for real healthcare for all.
And by the way, taxes NEVER funded the federal government, that was also always a lie we were told since the powerful figured we "peasants" might demand too much if we knew the truth.

I've had medical insurance from my company for over 20 years. When they laid me off I received COBRA coverage for 18 months which continued my full health insurance as before. Now I find that Medicare does not count COBRA as insurance and I get to pay a penalty for this. This is not only confusing, it's ridiculous. I've had full coverage ever since my employment ended yet Medicare does not recognize this. It's even more crazy that the online process requires truthful responses, yet won't accept my response unless I state that my coverage ended when my employment did, which is simply not true. I have to lie to get the application in, and then get a penalty for it as well simply because they don't "count COBRA as insurance". This is nuts.

How much of my bills will I pay, and will that exceed what I have been paying for COBRA? And then we have those politicians who want to term it an "entitlement" and get rid of it while all the years we have worked and paid into it and they have had their hands in it and robbing us blind. We get something like 80% payment of that benefit instead of 100%, and they want to reduce it more or eliminate it all together.

You should have received a form at tax time yearly documenting that your health insurance was credible. And your work coverage by law had to be credible so you need to get the documents and demand action from a supervisor.

The insurance industry has us hood winked into thinking that a Gov run health care plan is "bad" or "Socialism". Bad for us, great for their bottom line! • @alanbruce8632
    @alanbruce8632 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

It's actually very simple and easy to understand, but it seems the people at Medicare just want it to be more confusing. If you have Medicare A and B and your former employer's health plan, you have all of the coverage you need. A Medicare Advantage plan (Part C) is usually offered by a health company (such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield) and rarely covers you as well as when you carry your former insurance company. Although they may tell you they cover dental and vision benefits, they usually only cover one cleaning per year and half price for frames and lenses. You're better off without it in just about all cases. Part D, the prescription coverage, will be picked up by your former employer's plan in addition to what Medicare doesn't pay. All of my doctors accept Medicare as full payment for their services. Check with your physicians. Another negative thing about a Medicare Advantage Plan is that you usually have no choice of providers and it works similar to an HMO. Not a good choice, IMO. It's often a rip-off from some companies in terms of not getting what you thought you had paid for.

    • @GaryDuell
      @GaryDuell 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Do a customized search at medicare.gov. You can enter all your medications and the search engine will find and rank all available plans in your zip, by annual out of pocket cost, including the premium. The advantage of the Advantage plans is that there is no addtional premuim beyond your Part B premium. Of course your former employer's plan will be better coverage. But it's very rare that an employer will grant extended group coverage at no cost. For most folks, the Advantage plans are the best deal.

+John Dozier Medicare Advantage plans also cover part B services or benefits, but you still have to pay the Part B premium due whether you go the original Medicare route or the Med Advantage route. The only exception to that would be if a person were on their state's Medicaid program because of low income, then the Medicaid program might pay a portion or all of the Medicare Part B premium. Hope that helps clear it up John.

However it states in your Medicare & You guidebook that it is required to be enrolled in both Part A & B to enroll into a Medigap Plan(Option 1) or Medicare Advantage Plans(Option 2) Replying to this so folks can learn from your question years after. Gary - Medigap insurance is tightly regulated and limited to a small number of coverage plans. The more popular Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage Plans) are the ones who are confusing, and require that your doctor(s) be "in-network", and have a lot of fine print that one must read before signing up. Reading the fine print is necessary once a year during the annual open-enrollment period mid-October thru early December. That said, if one is relatively healthy, one can save a lot of money with low or even zero insurance premiums for a good Medicare Advantage plan (Part C)

If we are listening to original, supplemental, part B, Part A, with plans in the network oor not, with coinsurance and monthly extra coverage and plans for D, etc etc, Medigap, and part premiums etc etc. Then it is a system which is too complicated. In Europe we pay once into a state system, no messing around. And NOTE the USA system is rated 42 nd in the world.......wow, what a mess.

When a person presents their insurance card, how am I to know if it's a medigap plan or an advantage plan? To be clear, is the Medigap "in addition to" Medicare A/B and are the advantage plans a replacement to Medicare A/B?

    • @johna.balotawithmedicareli5805
      @johna.balotawithmedicareli5805 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Usually a Medigap plan will have a letter A through N. Most common Medigap plans are plan F, G or N. An advantage plan will often times display deductible, copayment and coinsurance amounts on the card or it will say HMO. If in doubt, you can always call the insurance carrier's phone number on the back of the card. Medigap is "in addition" to Medicare A/B. It picks up the "gaps" left by A/B. If you get an advantage plan, even though you still pay for the monthly Part B premium you technically are replacing Original Medicare Part A & B. Once you are covered by an advantage plan, you will receive coverage within a network whereas with Medicare Part A&B plus a Medigap you can receive coverage anywhere in the US, any doctor who takes Medicare including specialists and you do not need a referral. Some Medigap policies will cover foreign travel at 80% in case of emergencies. Hope this is helpful. If you have questions, please visit www.medicareline.org and contact me directly.

The insurance card must clearly state the letter plan if they have a Medigap Policie. Examples, Humana Medicare Supplement Plan F, Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan G, Aetna Medigap Plan N.
Medicare Advantage(MA) will typically have info stating the network (HMO or PPO) and Prescription Drug coverage is included in Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug(MAPD) plan cards
And Yes! The Medigap letter Plan has benefits that can cover 20% gap for both Part A(80% Hospital Insurance) and Part B(80% Medicare Insurance) depending on the Plan that you choose.

My private insurance plan has done a much better job and helping understand what I need to do, why I should, and what may affect me decisions. Ron Reagan used to make a joke of saying, with great sarcasm, "We're from the Government, and we're here to help." It's funny, except it's not.

Its not illegal to sell someone a medigap policy if they have a medicare advantage plan, they just have to tell the customer that they will need to CANCEL said medicare advantage plan.

      Dangerous question / statement @CGJ7755.
The answer depends on the time period on when the Medicare Beneficiary enrolled.
Are you asking if its in their initial enrollment period(Turning 65)? Then no because they have a window of time to decide which one to keep.
However if it's out of their open enrollment, not a special election(Moving out of area/state) or NOT during the dis-enrollment Period, then is it illegal to solicit and enroll a medicare recipient on to a Medigap letter plan who is currently on a Medicare Advantage Plan.
In plain english Medicare Advantage plans are 1 year contracts. They are a replacement of Original Medicare(Part A & B). When you enroll into a Medicare Advantage(Part C), you are essentially disenrolling from Original Medicare because Medicare Advantage is a replacement option.
You are able to switch off of Medicare Advantage and enroll back into Original Medicare(Part A & B ) during certain times of the year. However you may have to health qualify(underwriting) for a Medigap Plan if the Medicare Beneficiary is outside of the guarantee issued open enrollment period surrounding their birth month or special election period(Switching off of Employer or Group health coverage).

It is great to have options, work with a licensed insurance agent who represents multiple carriers (a broker). The Broker like myself should not charge a fee as we get paid by the insurance carrier. If you are in WI look us up to assist!

@@barbnelson9386 Look for licensed and reputable agents, understand policies before signing, and work with someone transparent, communicative, and committed to your needs. Remember that agents have a legal and ethical obligation to act in their clients' best interests. Do not work with a agent if they charge you a fee.
