Hiking the Portuguese Camino - Day 5 of 6 - Caldas de Reis to Cruces, Spain | S02E16
Our longest day of the pilgrimage of 29.1 km (18.1 miles)! In this episode we learned about why the church bells rang from 9-9:30, made friends with a dog, experienced “Camino Cinnamon Toast”, enjoyed more of the wonderful Spanish countryside, soaked our feet at a local pool, and found a room to recover our tired pilgrim feet.

OMG ... such a beautiful video! Loved it!
It reminded me of my 3rd Camino when I did the Camino Portuguese section. The images brought back so many memories.
    Chantil is such a trooper!
Perhaps I should not reveal this... but I always carry a super "ultra lite" tent (16 oz.), and if I don't find a place to stay, I do "stealth" camping. I also set my alarm clock to 30 minutes before sun rise so farmers will not be offended that I slept on their fields. I know this is not "kosher" to do in Spain, but I only do it when I cannot find accommodations.
During the Portugal Camino, I actually ASKED permission from the land owners and they were more than happy to allow me to sleep on their property. They were generous because I had dinner at their restaurant and then I asked if it were okay for me to sleep for the night. They said, "No problem," and even invite me to have a shower when I wake up--this was in the beach sections of Portugal.
Of course, I eagerly complied and bought breakfast at their restaurant since they allowed me to sleep on their property! But in all honesty I only do this when it is an emergency. 80% of the time, I had reservations ahead of time... but there are those rare moments when I took out my tent and slept in it!
You two are awesome... I look forward to the rest of your videos!
    Buen Camino!

Love the comments! It warms our hearts to know that you’re enjoying the video and the memories of the Camino Portuguese.
I like the idea of stealth camping and it one of this things we enjoy as well. I honestly, think that as long as you don’t leave any visible trace of your stay then it wouldn’t be a problem with most people. We try to do this style of camping when we’re in an area that supports it. Although, we’re not that stealthy with a large tent and two motorcycles.
The final leg of our Camino comes out on Friday at 3PM Eastern! Then we’re back on the motorcycles traveling through northern Spain, France, northern Italy, and beyond. Lots more adventure to come...

@@viajarMOTO My original plan was to ride in EU this summer, but given the circumstances I will wait until next year. After doing the cost-benefit analysis, it just did not make sense to ride in EU this summer.
PS. If I had shipped the GS over this year, I was hoping to catch up with you two and riding together for a while! :)
I only did "real" stealth a few times. Rest of the time, the areas where I set up tent were well known that it was "allowed" and there are other tents set up in the area as well. You are correct: as long as you "leave no trace," most people will not have an issue. Usually, if at all possible, I do ask permission from the land owner, esp. if I just had dinner by their restaurant!

@@jamessobredo7847 We’re wanting to ride to North Cape this year but that is A LOT of countries (9 of ‘em) to cross before we get there and with each one having different border controls, tests, and quarantines, it’s going to be difficult. We’ll see how things go in May. If it looks like we can pull it off we’ll make the journey, otherwise we’ll enjoy Greece, Italy, and the Alps.

Simone, I accidental deleted the other comment but found it on my email: “My mom's favourite cake was just like your bread BUT yeast-dough, butter on top (nicely spread) and then the suger-cinamon-mix (just like you said) on top, bake and enjoy. SOOOOOO delicious !!! we all used to love it. Haven't made it in quite a while. I think, I know what we're going to eat tonight ;)”
Sounds amazing! If we lived near we would be stopping by to share some!

Hi again, did you need a sleeping bag or was it warm enough to not have one?

    • @viajarMOTO
      @viajarMOTO  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

No sleeping bag needed - there are lots of accommodations along the route. I did bring a blanket but it was just for extra comfort.
