I remember playing this in the 2015 high school state honors project, and I don't think I've ever experienced the amount of chills I did during that performance, ever since. The harmonies/dissonance are just WOW
That is one hell of a sound between the tubas and bass trombones. Wow! I am privileged to be friends with the principal tubist Evan Zeigel and Brendan Ige. I would love to be studio mates with those guys.
This has to be my favorite rendition. The first trumpet brought tears to my eyes, the low brass and winds are unified as could be. A beautiful array of dark colors produced by the impeccable ensemble playing -- sound for sore ears, for sure.
I couldnt ever play this song because I got the chills too much. I played oboe and the chills would literally destroy my ability to maintain an embouchre.
I miss seeing Andrew Findley's face turning super red when he played the trumpet towards the climax (he was our trumpet soloist so he got that part that stood out) I miss wind ensemble :(
I was inspired by a performance of this at a Nov 11 Remembrance Day ceremony in Edmonton Alberta a few years back. this is an outstanding performance of it as well. glad I found it here!
I agree, the trumpets are too bright too early on. Maybe it's just the concert hall. Also there are some phrasing choices that are weird, probably due to not having the lyrics to give context.
As a trumpet I was looking at them buried in the music instead of hearing the cue from the other side of the room. Not the maestro. Other than that, I enjoyed. Very bad entrances
I think it’s written to sound like that, I have this arrangement, we’re playing it for high school band. I’m not sure which part you’re talking about so I can’t say that for sure though.
The Lead trumpet part brought tears to my eyes when I played it with our ensemble.
That was good! Music is meant to make us feel like that. It is an awesome piece of music, is it not?
Were you that out of tune 🤣

I played flute for this piece. Absolutely brought tears to my eyes as well. Such a beautiful piece
wouldnt a lead trumpet be really heavy?

Sameeee. Lux arumque was a very close 2nd as far as chills go
I couldn’t even play my instrument because the chills were too intense.
Oboe player here!
We played this as our ballad during marching band my freshman year. Absolutely a masterpiece. Easily my favorite part of the show.
Video deserves way more recognition. Probably my favorite band performance on this song to date.
This is NOT a " song ". It is a piece of music. A song is a piece of music for VOICE!
Steven S Being rude doesn’t make you any better for knowing.
@@sgsmozart Well… originally it is for voice. In fact, it’s originally for ONLY voices. Therefore it is a band arrangement of a SONG.
What a childish discussion.... who cares. Great piece of music, good performance 👏

Perfect restraint in the climax crescendo. Gorgeous!

one of the best performances i’ve ever seen. in my “cycle these 5 youtube videos” mode rn and I can’t stop watching this. breathtaking.
3:45 is the most beautifully balanced I’ve ever heard before
A beautiful setting, beautifully played. Thanks.

This is a very nearly perfect mix of players to the music. The U. of M. Symphonic Band is truly awesome.
UMSB - As always - seriously outstanding performance.
Such a sweet arrangement... and very well played. Dynamics.. tempo.. -=< emotion >=- ... Just brilliant all round... ❤

SAAAAME. I want to die when I play that part
Beautifully done!

I sang this in choir but am performing cloudburst for band. Stumbled upon this and it's amazing

I played 3rd trumpet on this piece. Loved this song
A beautiful rendition, I am so pleased to of stumbled across your performance!
Nailed it. Phenomenal job.
Gorgeous.
Unpopular opinion. I prefer the instrumental/wind, variation of this beautiful piece, over the the Vocal.
Tell me why I was singing the alto part😂...👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼beautiful🙌🏽😍
Well played with a lot of tension
This is REALLY good. the phrasing is JUST like the original choral recording.
The tuning is on POINT!!!
Trumpets. Spleeya......almost perfect. No I can't and never will do better :-)

I need the score please
I almost forgot I played this piece about a year ago
Zachary Coronado no one cares nigha
Their horns are normally so good! They are quite out of tune in the opening.
