      I played First Suite in my high school honor band my sophomore year and at my first symphonic winds concert two months ago. In fact, after the last note of Chaconne, the conductor's baton flew to the French horns. 😂😂😂 I also played Second Suite in my senior year for pre-festival and festival.

    We played this my first year of college and all I remember was how much I hated 8:10 - 8:20. I was the only euphonium and we didn't have any horns so I was all alone playing notes that I had never played until then. That Bb was my worst nightmare for the entire semester.

    • @TheNameIsGamestar

      Simply for timbre reasons. Not completely noticeable to the untrained ear but the C trumpet does provide a bit of a richer color than a Bb trumpet

    Reminds me of Karajan, in a not so positive way. Mike is conducting the band inside his head. Not sure the band in front of him is on the same page.

    • @keehun
      @keehun 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sheri Schmidt, I think the video sync is not totally accurate. You can see the video gradually gets ahead of the audio (check trumpet fingerings and triangle hits, etc), and that may explain why his conducting seems a little “off”

    • @drbracken73
      @drbracken73 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      All of our videos are meticulously synched down to the sample and exact measurements from camera to conductor position to account for audio time delays. Haithcock very frequently leads the ensemble (conducts with gestures just ahead of the band by fractions of a second), which is very common for conductors to do. He leads without getting in the way of the ensemble.

  • @michaelcuthbert4335

    C trumpets are too bright for this work and the bass sax is downright intrusive. Would also prefer a much looser head on the bass drum as this one is, again, too bright and shallow. But that bass sax was hardly ever in balance!!
