    • @TheWolvesCurse
      @TheWolvesCurse 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      i really don't know much about cars that were made before the great war, but i thought the model t has had an engine with way smalle displacement than 6.8liter from the mercedes. so less power would be obvious, plus it was made to motorise the masses, just like the "KDF wagen" which became the VW Beetle, the Austin Mini or the Fiat Topolino. cheap to produce, and you can't say that about a mercedes from back then.

    • @afeeqhasan6621
      @afeeqhasan6621 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The model T was the reason why so many cars started having the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car.

    • @Stylemaster911
      @Stylemaster911 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think you're certainly right. But I just think it's really interesting that, while the Model T made (maybe) 12hp, this beast was making over 40. And I think more interestingly, from what I've seen, the Model T has really interesting controls, which are not like a modern car at all. For example, acceleration was controlled though a throttle on the steering wheel, and there wasn't really a clutch pedal per say.
      Not to ramble on, but I think the more interesting part is how this vehicle has a lot of "modern" similarities, as compared to the T which seems more archaic.

    Touchscreens are cancer in modern cars... I just hate those. There are fingerprints everywhere and you have to look on the screen to know what are you pressing, so it makes driving more dangerous, because you're not looking at the road. I WANT BUTTONS FOR AC AND RADIO AN EVERYTHING ELSE. Maybe except the navigation. It works well.

    That new car sucks. Having no physical buttons and knobs to push or turn means you'll have to turn your attention from the road to whatever the heck you wish to change in some menu, on some touch screen or whatever. It's too distracting from the road, so much so that you could just as well use your mobile phone in your current car as well instead.... which in a lot of countries isn't allowed. So why should a touch interface in a car be allowed to be operated as well?

    • @pwolkowicki

    • @CoreTech951
      @CoreTech951 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree, even if you have normal buttons and knobs, you usually still have to look down to see for example the temperature setting, radio channel, etc. And it seems te climate control is rellly easy to use, you just swipe left-right, so it's not that distracting. And most cars already have GPS navigation, so you already have touchscreens on-board. But yes, in my opinion, everything should be engineerred in a way to minimize distractions. One thing to remember is that all new cars will soon have to be equipped with AEB, so even if you miss something on the road, the car should see it and brake automatically and I think this will drastically decrease the number of fatal crashes.

      I thought I was the only one to think like this. I recently drove a rental car with no physical button and it was SO annoying… I just don't get why anyone thought this was a good idea… It's even worse in the sun, it takes so much time to navigate to the desired function, so much time not looking at the road… They really need to stop this trend and go back to normal buttons.

    Brakes? Then again in 1903 you didn't really need them since cars were a rare sight and you didn't have to break for any other cars crossing your path. People probably stood in awe and got out of the way or simply shook their head at these noisy horseless carriages the wealthy owned. Must have felt amazing in 1903 though - driving your own "road locomotive" wherever you wanted to and whenever. Going to other places back then either meant by train or by stagecoach - both of which had their fixed schedules and stops. This car was faster than the fastest racing horse, never mind regular horses.
    The fastest race horse ever was clocked at 44 mph. Needless to say that's only what a tiny jockey riding it will experience. A regular horse gallops at 25-30mph and it's a "bumpy ride" literally. How long can a horse maintain galloping speed btw? I found this: "A well conditioned horse can easily maintain a gallop for a mile to a mile and a half. At two to two and a half miles most horses will feel fatigued." Well, this Mercedes Simplex has 40 horses and they won't feel fatigued after two miles of "galloping" at 30 mph.

      @OhMyKMPR 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Petrol engines were barely 25 years old when this car was made and were not widely used before. 40hp in a car like that is actually quite decent. Only 20 years later Mercedes introduced the first supercharged production car and their 1926 630K put out 140hp. Technology advanced very quickly during that time as gasoline cars became increasingly popular. That's why I'm excited to see what electric cars will be like in the future. It's not a modern concept by far (some delivery vehicles in 1920s Germany were electric) but it's just now getting so popular that people may consider switching over.

      soon or later, the gas will replaced. I hope to keep the gas vehicle produced at least until 2040 or few years after I am too old to driving a car

    Cars nowadays are too smart for their own good. I work at a body shop, and we have a Tesla right now. The hood is bent on it from the crash it was in, so every time you try to start moving the car says the hood is open and the stupid thing puts itself back in park. It's super annoying

      Definitely would file that under too smart for it's own good as it just just trigger a warning light like every other car.
