Murata is one of my favorite japanese authors. Earthlings is one of my favorite books. I pretty particularly read only dark or dissonant kinda stuff (Malazan and Second Apocalypse are my favorite fantasy series), and Earthlings is legit the darkest standalone Ive read out of hundreds. So its definitely one of the craziest things you can read. The exploration of the psychology really brought it to another level. Super pumped for this one!
I read Convenience Store Woman and Earthlings and I really enjoyed those. Well, I might just pick Life Ceremony while we wait for Vanishing World english release. But first I have to finish my current read 'Lost Illusions' by Balzac. I'm having a blast!
i was also given an arc of this and i just finished it last night. i like the conversation about marriage, where is it really needed anymore for people to have their own family or is it just a tool for practicality? if it's just for practicality, then maybe marrying your best friend of the same sex is much more practical and convenient than marrying someone who's a stranger. it really makes me think. the ending fucked me up fr! great video btw, you earned a new subscriber!
Convenience store woman was pretty good in my opinion, earthlings is in a league above it if you ask me. It's one of my very favorite books, I'm excited to read this one.
sounds good ill def check it out, excited for the wrap up video!

Thank you! I love her writing. I think this book hits even harder now than when it first released in Japan.

Earthlings has stuck with me way more. I think Convenience Store Woman is an easier entry point but Earthlings hits a lot harder.
