Andrei Step 1: Go Shopping
First, and most importantly, you’ll need to gather your not-so-basic ingredients for this traditional Japanese dish. Take a trip to your local Asian market to pick up the following ingredients:
Mochiko, or other glutinous rice flour
Sugar
Coconut Milk
Unsweetened Condensed Milk
Water
Food Coloring
Katakuriko, or cornstarch
Step 2: Prepare Your Ingredients
Now’s the time to start separating your ingredients into the proper size for the recipe. Here’s what you’ll need to do:
Put 1lb of Mochiko or other rice flour dough in a large mixing bowl
Measure three cups of sugar
Pour and mix one can of coconut milk in a bowl
Prepare ½ can of unsweetened condensed milk
Have 1 ½ cups of water ready
Choose your favorite color dye
On large cutting board or other surface, sprinkle corn starch to ensure Mochi does not stick.
Step 3: Preheat Your Oven
Before we get into making your Mochi, be sure to preheat your oven to 450º F. This will give your oven ample time to properly heat up.
Step 4: Combine and Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift the Mochiko. After the rice flour has been sifted, add in three cups of sugar, one can of unsweetened coconut milk, one and a half cups of water, and a few drops of your favorite food coloring. Using a whisk, stir the mixture until it is lump free.
Step 5: Pour Mixture into a Large Cake Pan
Line a large cake pan with aluminum foil and spray with nonstick oil. Pour the mixture in the greased pan and ensure it is evenly distributed. Lay another piece of foil on top of the poured mixture.
Step 6: Place the Pan in the Oven
Bake your mixture in the oven for over an hour on the middle shelf. After cooking, remove the Mochi from the oven and let cool for an additional hour.
Step 7: Remove Mochi From Pan and Prepare for Serving
After your mixture has cooled, remove the top layer of foil. Flip the pan over on your surfaced covered in cornstarch and remove the bottom layer of foil.
Remove the crusts around the edges and cut your Mochi into your desired shape. After cutting into squares, triangles, or other shapes, sprinkle more corn starch on uncovered areas.
Step 8: Serve and Enjoy Your Homemade Mochi
Serve your Mochi however you want! Serve with soy sauce and wasabi, ice cream, soup-the possibilities are endless. If you serve a sweet dish, be sure to offer a cup of Japanese green tea as well!

anna banana mild and sweet depending on flavor, and chewy/gooey without being sticky (unless they get too warm). My favorites are either matcha or coconut with peanut candy inside ^^

I've eaten one with ice cream as the filling before it's really hard if you take bites. Just eat it in one go. But be careful because it's sticky. And it's huge for the mouth. I think the mochi depends on its fillings to taste/vary.
