According to companies like Micron (MU), the memory chip market is starting to make an epic comeback, one that could lead to new peak industry sales sometime in 2025. But at Chip Stock Investor, Micron and the other top memory chipmakers aren’t our favorite stocks right now.
Instead, we’re looking at Lam Research (LRCX), a top semiconductor wafer fab equipment and service provider. Nick and Kasey discuss the powerful business model, some new tech trends like chiplets and backside power delivery that could help Lam increase its addressable market, and the stock’s current valuation.
Stay tuned next week for more updates after Lam and other chip companies begin reporting earnings!

Nick and Kasey own shares of Lam Research
your videos are so high quality! thank you for the great discussions!
You have previously said Cadence & Synopsis make up a duopoly in EDA. But I have found Altium, Aligent Tech, RSLogix have a larger market share in EDA than CDNS and SNPS. Can you please explain.
I think their soft designs different type of circuits.
Thanks for the insight. Two questions, 1- Does ACMR compete directly with Lam, and 2- does Lam have a large exposure to China?
Hi Geordie, 1. Yes ACMR competes, check our last two videos on ACMR 2. Yes Lam gets about 1/3 of revenue from China in any given year, in line with the general semi industry overall
Thanks
Thanks for the video! Do you guys have any thoughts on the potential disruption against Lam's dominant NAND business that may be coming in the next months/years from Tokyo Electron's new cryo etch equipment?
We have covered Tokyo Electron in the past, it's been a while though. Their new tech is promising. But new tools like this are incremental growth drivers, not really a "rip everything existing out of the fab and replace it" type of event.
Hate to say it, but you were kinda wrong about Super Micro Computer.. it's not even 3 months, and it has gained 60% so far, and future earnings in 2027 are supposed to be amazing. FYI, I was thinking the same as you, too. In my opinion, Super Micro will probably gain another 100% more, at least on the hipe, but I'm definitely not a chaser, just a long-term investor. I think you guys do a great job, maybe a little too conservative for me, but still, you guys have a really good way of researching and explaining the ins and outs semiconductor equities. It's probably the best!Thank you all you guys do and the hard work that goes into your channel.
Thanks @jdog8019
See our latest on SMCI the other day.
And for the record, over the last 6 months:
SMCI 39%
NVDA 30%
AMD 58%
I think we're doing more than just fine without it. We don't believe investing is a binary right-wrong situation. It's that SMCI doesn't meet OUR criteria for investment. And so we move on and keep learning about other things and don't worry about the stock price after that. It's healthier thinking. But, that's just how we do it.
Thanks for watching and commenting as always!
It gained 35% in one day yesterday. Not sure this is a stock that can be ignored or dismissed as 'not meeting your criteria' - surely everyone's 'criteria' when it comes to investing in stocks is to make as much money as quickly as possible? Its hard to think of a better play in the chip / AI space than SMCI...but I take your point, it isnt a zero sum game. Money not made in SMCI can be made somewhere else - its just that SMCI is the fastest horse in the race right now.
Marvell is over 40% in just 3 months, 80% 1 year too.. It's definitely one of my favorites for long-term. But Super Micro Computer will explode due to the crazy expansion of infrastructure and data storage centers that need to be implemented all over the world for all this AI and everything else that needs to be upgraded. Energy consumption, speed, and traffic are going to be the most important factors of the infrastructure that need to be implemented for now and the future, in my opinion. For any kind of application of AI to work, you know you need speed for the data, not an overflow of too much energy to one data structure etc. Behind the scenes, it is to mind blowing to really know all the futuristic infrastructure that is going to have to happen for everything that is now soon to come. We are just scratching the surface. Again, you guys do an awesome job educating us on these semiconductor companies and I thank you.....Have an awesome weekend!!!
And by the way I totally understand your investing strategy and appreciate it. I do understand your view on Super Micro Computer though.
Why Tesla is falling
I have subscribed to your videos but I don't see how to subscribe to your community board. Could you post a link?
Hey there, think you just need to turn on notifications for the channel?
@@chipstockinvestor I did weeks ago and I enjoy your videos. However I receive no notifications for the community board.
my favorits : Texas Instruments, KLA, Applied Materials, and Qualcom wich you also picked.
Chipstock prognostication! A 20% pullback would be a gift for such a solid long-term holding. Loving it. Great content as always.
Perhaps wishful thinking on our part! Let's see what happens next week! 💪🏽
KLAC is also reporting next week correct? You think we'll get a dip there as well?@@chipstockinvestor
I will be all in on TSM, BUY AND HOLD TSM FOR THE LONG TERM, THE BIG 7 TECH, AMD NVIDIA, THEY ALL NEED TSM AI CHIP CAPACITY TO SUSTAIN THEIR GROWTH
SMCI on fire
Axcelis Technologies ACLS at 26th Annual Needham Growth Conference says they will report good earnings. I call them "Baby AMAT". They aren't expecting semiconductor power equipment to be band from China. Small cap with advanced memory for the recovery.
Hi Carol, we are really curious what they say about 2024 estimate, because they had already reported lots of new sales in December. We want to know if any customers delay shipments this year.
Ha ha, you r@@chipstockinvestor
TXN with an upgrade, what is your idear ??
Would have been a timely upgrade when it down to under $140! At this point, gotta wait for earnings. TXN is getting hit hard right now.
TXN 170 usd right now ! Why TXN is getting hit right now ? Chips stock rise and lock at Intel. Capex is not hitting TXN so much next earning or am i wrong ? Please lock at SMCI 😂
@@hubertusgumpert8463 TXN's elevated capex will last for several more years.
We just covered SMCI, check the video feed.
@@chipstockinvestor thanks, i did but maybe you are wrong for 2024 and 2025, they will double their revenue in 3 to 5 years, Malaysia plant !!
The Fab 5 are Lam, Applied materials, ASML, KLA & ??
Tokyo Electron
@@chipstockinvestor thanks :)
SMCI near ATL ! 353 USD !!
Got another shot of rocket fuel
How about BESI ? Is it can be the next explosive stock?
Hey there, we wrote this about a month ago. Looking for a pullback.

today seems semi are on fire
Thanks to TSM earnings, which the market seemed to have missed when they issued the Dec sales report!
waiting on that ALTM video
Hey there, did you see the community board post from today?
Just did , thanks@@chipstockinvestor
Qualcomm hits 52 week high....
Jim Cramer is bullish on Micron , Memory Chips , I do not understand why ? Growing business in 2024 ? Western Digital your idears ??
Not sure, probably just gushing on TV per usual. MU is really not attractively priced for what we're looking for right now.
Thanks
I'm gonna invest 30.000 USD, how does this portfolio look for 2024?
