It's a work of art, and to think they were mass-produced to this standard. It could not be done today. I love the color-matched interior, right down to the steering wheel. The color is Hunter Green.
My grandfather got a new Buick every two years back then. What I remember as a kid back then is how heavy those doors were when the car was parked on a slope. One of his Buicks was from that same dealer, the others were bought in Gordon Nebraska. His ranch was between those two towns.
Yes, back in those days you could afford a new car every other year. The saying was then, "the darned ash trays are full, so, it's time to get a new car, I guess"!! LOL
@@tedecker3792 Yup, that's how I got my first car, at age 17, a 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon, 2 door, now highly collectable; as my dad got a brand new 1964 Dodge truck for his business, as a home builder, in L.A. :D
Awesome car and such a great story to go along with it. People always think of the Chevys when talking about 50's cars but the Buicks seem to have been forgotten though but not by me.
Now that was a heck of a tug boat! When I was an 8 year old kid the neighbor across the street had a new ,'58 Buick, the wife would drive it and she could hardly see over the hood she was very short. A few years later they were driving a '62 Corvair!
I had trouble finishing the video because my eyes were misted over. It took me back to my days as a teenager when I knew people who owned such yachts!! They were “just cars” to be used up and thrown away. What a privilege to see a survivor such as this so lovely preserved by one family. Car stories don’t get much better than this!
This lady has an incredibly good taste. Everything about this car has class: From the design, the originality to the stunning color! I think the Buicks of 58 and 59 were the greatest ever built. Friends of mine have pristine 58 Buick limited. A four door and a covertible, and they own many 59 Buicks from4d ht to stations and convertibles. I do not own one, but I have several Chevies and Pontiacs of the Golden Age of GM. Those classic GM vehicles were by far the best cars on this planet,
My parents had a 1957 Buick Super 4-door hardtop, two tone light and dark green. Not as over the top as the 1958 but still, a striking automobile. It was our fsmily's first factoty sir conditioned car.
Ed's Auto Review did a fantastic story on the '58' GM models that is worth watching! They were over the top on bright work but OMG to see a driver in that condition is special!
Love this ode to chrome Buick. Also your color coordinated shirt. I know! When just a child, there was this old woman named Mable. She had a 58 Buick, in black. She visited a neighbor regularly, turning the front end into the curb, until the curb feelers told her to stop. The big rear end sticking out. Thanks for the memories . This is a beautiful survivor car. ❤
As a Buick guy since I was a little kid pretending to drive my mom's 59 Roadmaster, the 58 Super is the Holy Grail of Buicks for me. Beautiful and I mean BEAUTIFUL car, hats off to the family for keeping it almost perfect. 👍👍
Pat. There was no Roadmaster in 59. But I know what you mean. Hehe. I had a 58 & 59 Buick back in the early 60’s. The 58 was by far the better of the two.
Just Beautiful 🥰💕💥we had Cadillac’s growing up 🎉but, for me it was Buicks ❤had 3 Specials, one Roadmaster 🤗near future a 1958 Limited Riviera coupe (Carlsbad Black) Thank that Kitten 🐱 for sharing! You to Charles 😬
@@donaldpiper9763 My dad had a ‘64 Buick Special. He street parked it out front one night and incredibly, it was totaled in a rear end collision…also by what dad told me was a drunk driver. No fatalities except the car…The ‘64 was also almost totally chromeless.
@@donaldpiper9763 I hope your dad wasn’t hurt. Having a car totaled is an emotional experience on many levels. Back then it was more so because of the deep attachment we had for our cars. Lots of times I had to take a part time job to afford it.
I remember when these arrived in showroom floors. My brother and I started going on our bicycles in 1957 to look at all the new cars when they arrived at the dealers. It was a big deal. Some of the dealers put out WW2 searchlights to attract people. The '58 Buicks were really stunning. They very quickly were dubbed "The King Of Chrome".
Nothing like these old cars. Hand assembled, lacquer paint, real chrome, full frames... oh the joy of that Buick ride. Thanks Charles for presenting this diamond. - Jim
Amazing what we once were able to manufacture in this country. 58 Buicks came off the assembly line like McDonald's makes hamburgers then in 59 everything was redesigned again. These cars weren't that popular when new, but many collectors admire them now.
Oh his wife was crazy, This car is so much prettier than anything Cadillac made in 1959. This is a absolute work of art, it looks absolutely pristine. I love that green color and all that beautiful chrome. WOW WOW WOW is all you can say.
Nice thing about it that it is easily indentifyable as a '58 Buick. Nowadays you often have to look closely to see who made a vehicle as many look so similar.
Here in Australia I own two classics myself (on my channel) but this gorgeous Buick has blown me away! Never before have I seen one and I must say I’m a wee bit jealous and you sure are one lucky lady to own such a prestigious looking vehicle. Stunning. I would be super proud also having this in my shed. Beautiful
My grandparents had a 1958 Roadmaster 4 door sedan in a salmon color. Had even more chrome in the interior. It was a true land yacht. If it was out in the sun you dare not touch any of the chrome 🔥🔥 Burn your lil fingers to the bone. The multicolor & textured interiors of the 50s and 60s are what really sets this era apart from todays mostly black interiors. Thanks for the ride Charles.
It’s like Arnie Cunningham walked up to Harley Earl himself and said “show me.” Lots of good visual coverage of the insane level of trim on that wonderful land yacht.
What I love about this car is how many late 50s design clichés are slathered across it, yet the fins are fairly understated, compared to the Chrysler products of the time. An amazing work of art.

A TON of Chrome ! Today, you barely see ANY ! These were the days when cars were ART! A REAL CLASSIC ! It's a great car story !
