i am confused if you put the french toast casserole in the fridge overnight....do you wait to put the struessel topping until the next day before you bake it
I don’t. I add it to the top and then stick it in the fridge. Been making it for 30 years this way. I also slice the bread in 1/2 inch slices and not chunks. Also, I only use Granny Smith’s.
Two of my favorites, french toast & apples. It's a lot like bread pudding which is another one of my favorites, except I put a lemon sauce over it before you'd eat it.. I will definitely have to do this. YUMMMMMM
i am trying this but i had left over Hawaiian roll Hamburger buns that I toasted so I could use up before it had to be thrown out...didnt have nutmeg or cloves so i left them out and using canned apple pie filling mixed into the toasted bread...will see how it goes
Do you think there’s any risk of salmonella with this method? Since it is a raw batter stored overnight. I use backyard chicken eggs and im not sure if that is better or worse lol. I do have a vegan recipe I could use but I have a ton of eggs to use up as well!
What is the difference between strudel and streusel? Easy to confuse due to the similar names, strudel and streusel are actually different types of dessert. An apple strudel has thin sheets of pastry wrapped around the filling, while streusel is a crumbly sweet topping of sugar, flour, and butter that is often layered over pies and cakes
You can try but I haven't ever tried that. If I were to guess I would say you can probably reduce the liquid by about a third and try. Let me know how it goes,
Great recipe. I make something similar but much healthier. 460g of Egg whites, 45 calorie per slice bread (6), 2 apples, sugar substitute, vanilla extract, cinnamon. Bake @ 400 for 60 mins.
Bon appétit !I sure will give it a try.
U r 1 of the few who tells the measurements of the ingredients as u go.. Ty so much.

This also is delicious with brioche bread. It's great for families or whenever you have company staying over.
Very true!
It looks gorgeous! 😍😍 love this recipe!
Thank you 😋
I made it but my topping came out creamy lol. I used regular butter in a tub. So I hope it comes out good. I had to spread it on top of casserole 😬

Since it's cooked, it's safe.
When you let it sit our for an hour before cooking, did you refrigerate it or room temp?
Room temp is fine!

Yeah streusel topping is clearly what's intended here. Looks delicious!
0:45 really need to invest in a bread knife...that was troubling to watch...lol. But the casserole looks amazing!!!
Could you put in apple pie filling instead of fresh apples? 🤔
You can try but I haven't ever tried that. If I were to guess I would say you can probably reduce the liquid by about a third and try. Let me know how it goes,

Unsalted or salted butter ?
I used salted butter but if you only have unsalted on hand, that will do too. Just add about a 1/4 tsp salt to the recipe.
Would it be too sweet if I used Brioche instead?
Brioche would be amazing in this recipe!
From Kuwait
White kind of apple ?
You can use just about anything, red or green!
Thanks so much for looks yummy 😋 thanks so much for sharing have a wonderful blessed day today in Christ Jesus our savior ❤
Mmmmm
That's lot of cinnamon
There is 1/3 cup of brown sugar & flour in the written recipe, but you said 1/2 a cup of each.
