    If you’re not comfortable with the magic circle you can chain 4, then slip knot into the first chain then do then8 single crochets into the center of the circle you created. :) it makes it a little thicker but that’s usually how I do my centre.

      I watched a video yesterday that started with a magic circle. Did the stitches (sc or dc or whatever). And when it came time to slip stitch that row together, they brought up the tail from the magic circle and included it in the “yarn over” part of the slip stitch - then stitched over the tail for a bit doing the next row. Genius! It locked the magic circle in place! (If you want a better explanation or visual, I was watching a video on how to make a pocket hug)

    You have made a mistake saying half double crochet, when it should be double crochet in the 3rd round. If you watch it back you can see you are working a dc, but saying hdc in the wrong place.

      No, I’m really losing it, she really is working a half double crochet but I’m confused why she’s choosing a half double when the corners are clearly double crochet. I noticed it because my square was kind of wonky, not a complete square shorter in the center parts.

    Yes I believe she meant double crochets instead of half doubles on the second corner she did. It messed up my first square but I went back and watched it carefully and it is double crochets that she did. The half doubles are only the ones in between the corners right? Either way, it’s a beautiful square. I’m making a child’s sweater with them, thank you for the tutorial.

    • @blerta7801
      @blerta7801 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      4 months late lol but no she did mean half doubles. Because you are working to make a square out of the circular daisy, you would use a half double so all of the sides end up straight. I'm not sure why your squares were messed up. When you switch to your final color, you start with a chain of 5 in the chain 2 space of your petals. This counts as one double and a chain of two. You then dc 3× into the same space. The next space, you hdc three times. In the next space dc 3× and chain 2(or however many she said) and then dc three more times in the same space. Hdc into the next chain space and repeat until you get to where you started. In that space, dc 2× because that chain 5 counts as a dc. Each side of your square should end up straight and even unless you messed up somewhere❤❤

      Bianca B hey sorry this is way later haha, but she did make a mistake in the video, there are written instructions online from the same people and they said double crochet when she said half double. Also in the video right before it skips, she does say half double but when you look at her movements it’s a double crochet. Hopefully that clears any confusion🙂

    This takes me back to when my gramma taught me how to do this when I was a little girl. I was 9, and she was so patient with me. Just like you. You’re a great teacher, and you made it seem so easy to potentially make something so beautiful. My grandma is 102 now and of course her dexterity is nothing like it was 45 years ago, but she was so happy when I showed her this. Thank you for bringing back that memory, and for making this simple for even me to understand. I think I see a sweet little handbag in my distant future if I can make 3 or 4 of these per day. Lol.

    The instructions for the actual square are very unclear. “Repeat the process” - what process? Doubles, half doubles, both in the same space or different spaces? I feel like there’s wrong or missing steps, nothing I do ends up shaped like a square.

    • @opheliamaples

      There was a mistake when the designer was describing the second corner. She accidently said 3hdc when it was meant to be another set of 3dc. So the corners are (3dc, ch2, 3dc). The sides are 3hdc.
      So working in the ch2 spaces between petals:
      Ch5 (counts as a dc plus ch2), you're basically starting a corner but leaving it incomplete until you come to the end of the round to finish it off. Now work 3dc in the same space. Now move onto next ch2 space.
      3hdc for your first side.
      3dc, ch2, 3dc for your second corner.
      3hdc for your second side.
      3dc, ch2, 3dc for your third corner.
      3hdc for your third side.
      3dc, ch2, 3dc for your fourth corner.
      3hdc for your fourth side.
      Now you're back to your incompleted first corner that you started at the beginning of the round. Work 2dc to finish off your partial corner. Slip stitch to the third loop of your starting ch5 to join.
      I hope that has helped.

    Thanks a million; you’re an Ace. You instruct so well, it’s easy to follow even without a pattern. HOWEVER… SO NICE you provide the ACTUAL PATTERN on your website with the video. It saves so much time not needing to click a bunch of links like too many other TH-cam Crochet Creators.
    I love this easy Daisy Granny Square. After watching, I just whipped one up & it’s just precious. I’m creating a cover for my Kitchen Aid Mixer & I bet when I assemble them, it’ll be so pretty. I’m gonna use the Daisy as the center squares with solids for the body.
    Thanks again for such a clear, well done explanation & of course the pattern.
    Definitely gonna follow your channel! 👍🏻

    I accidentally made a magic loop with nine instead of eight stitches. I only realized I miscounted after I'd finished making the petals. My first daisy granny square ended up being a circle lol. After that mishap though, I made sure the rest of my squares were actually square. They look great :) This tutorial was easy to follow, slow paced enough for me to learn, and I'm excited to have such a beautiful design locked down. Thank you! I'm using a bigger yarn, so they're big enough to be coasters.

      This is likely a tension issue. Keep the same grip on the yarn at all times. And if that doesn’t work you might want to drop half a hook size

    You keep saying half double crochets but doing double crochets, what's up with that? Very confusing for a beginner.

  • @plrichards3344
    @plrichards3344 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    At 11:53 you say do three 1/2 double crochet. It is three double crochet.
    I was confused, until I watched your hands. This might be confusing to beginners( which I am a semi-beginner).

  • @dlandstrom9589
    @dlandstrom9589 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am so confused! So, during the third round, its 3 double crochets in the first petal space after chaining 5, then jump to second petal space & do 3 half double crochets, then jump to next petal space & do 3 double crochets, chain 2 & 3 more double crochets in same space, jump to next petal space, do 3 half double crochets, etc?
    Cause if I'm hearing what I think I'm hearing, you're actually doing 3 double crochets chain 2 then 3 half double crochets in a petal space making up a corner....how's that work I'm wondering?

    • @JustBeCrafty
      @JustBeCrafty  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have to agree with the previous comment about the verbal instructions being incorrect.
    After several trial and errors, and repeated rewatching, it does appear the verbal instructions do not match the visual instructions. The verbal corner stitch instructions do not correlate with the visual demonstrations.
    I hope you are able to correct this as the resulting motif is so cute. I’d hate to think some folks will abandon the project as the instructions aren’t correct.

    Rewatched this tutorial so many times. For me the outer part of the granny square is all wonky and uneven, never turns out like a square.
    My honest review is that it is a great tutorial but I think for beginners at crochet it would be hard because you needed to go over thing a lot more and reinforce them.
    Also, please don’t say I’m being rude because this is just my honest opinion, no offence.

    • @JustBeCrafty
      @JustBeCrafty  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bing Bong, I appreciate your feedback. Learning a new pattern/technique can be challenging. As mentioned in the tutorial, you'll want to reference the written pattern as you follow along with the video (justbcrafty.com/2019/04/dainty-daisy-granny-square-motif-video-tutorial.html). The video is meant to be used in companion with the written pattern. I also highly recommend pausing the video as you work each step and go at your own pace. This is the beauty of videos - we can pause, and rewind as needed. I hope this helps.❤️
